Takes a big man to not only admit his mistake, but to video himself fixing the issue he created makes him taller. Good on you Andrew. That is probably one of the reasons I love your channel. You bring so much information to us. Have you thought about installing removable panels on the water shed to protect your equipment from the elements? Could be a DIY project.
Oh 💩 things happen to all of us once in a while. Kudos to you for sharing this with all of us. A lot of content creators try to portray that everyday is always glitz and glamour and that just isn’t real life! You and Tiff are just living and sharing a genuine life and we’re all thankful for it!!!
This is why we all love you Andrew! No one is perfect but it takes real guts to share our mistakes with others. Thank you for being so humble and allowing us to take this journey with you!
Hi, Andrew! I’m so sorry! Your honesty is to be commended. I can remember when this was many families’ only source of water. Yes, there was an outhouse behind the barn. It was always scary for me. I was always afraid of either falling in or being surprised by a snake.
You can install a gravity type sediment trap before it enters your pump, they don’t restrict flow, just allows sediment to drop out. They are designed to go before water enters the pump.
Thanks for sharing the little everyday mistakes that can happen to everyone I was noticing your ball valve if you were to change it to one with a bleeder valve you wouldn’t have to unscrew the hand pump, but it’s probably easier to unscrew the pump every time you need it drained that to install a new ball valve. Thanks again my friend for sharing the video
Farmer that lived near me when I was a child was running his bush hog with front bucket on. He caught a limb and it came off the bucket and crushed his head in. He lived by a gift from God. From that point on, I alway used our orchard tractor when mowing. Stay safe 🙏
I'm right there with you on having backup. I put in a hand pump with a electric pump like you have. I try to have backup for everything (heat, water, electricity -dual generator and solar, food, transportation, and bug out gear. What I don't have is a storm shelter like you. I'll get that in the works. Good vid!
Enh, no worries Kelly it's just a Horrible Freight! You want me to get you a Good Sta-rite pump and Tank? That harbor pump I would not use on a camp..... You want true reliability and absolutely repairable for emergency water!
I'd install a T-valve below the hand pump add in two short nipplles, one vertical for the pump and one horizontal for installing a hand valve and a open pipe after the hand valve so that you just have to open the hand valve to allow air in for winterizing without ever have to unscrew and re-install the hand pump again. Just my observation. Nice video.
Hello Andrew how are you doing? I am sorry to hear that this happened man but like you said things happen. At least you was able to fix it & get it back to running again man. I hope you are doing well buddy. I doing good just really busy with Trucking 🚛 especially now with hauling Christmas Gifts for UPS now. You have a good weekend buddy & take it easy buddy.
You should try and mount your check valves vertically to prevent sediment and sand from sitting in the low spot and causing the valve to leak. Great video
@@TKCL I understand but I have a sandy well and it clogs my filter often. I can only imaginal if you only run it once in awhile giving it a 2 minute flush would save your filter is all I was saying
Not an all bad accident. You got to make a new video. 😊 You learned what not to in future.😮 Of course, it also added to your mile long to do list. 😂😂😂😂 ❤❤ Enjoy the cooler weather. ❤❤
Have you considered some sort of wall there? Even just a single section of 8ft fence would do. As it sits right now you can barely see it because you're looking through it; with some sort of wall structure there you will definitely see it. Don't ask me how I know. 😄 Anyways, a piece of fence would also take most of that sunlight off the pvc making the piping and filter housing last. It looks like you'll be lucky if the filter housing makes it another 12 months.
If only we learnt from other people's mistakes, but no, we have to make our own to remember! So, consider this an education course, you won't do it again:)))
I am loving this information. Are you going to show us how to install the filter directly to the hand pump as mentioned in your previous video; #737? I have an acquaintant with an very old hand pump that came with the property who keeps getting sand and/or sediment in her water. Of course, trying to fix the problem low cost way.
Hi Andrew, we ran ours 26ft deep put check valve on about 12 in. Underground and put a separator where your check valve is (clear) so you can see sediment and drain periodically. Never had a problem with freezing or loosing prime.. using the same pump looks like yours.
great video. and I agree with you, have you seen where the U.N. is going to tell the United States to begin to consume less meat? What the hell. Time for the U.S. to leave the U.N.
Hi Andrew I know this comment is on the wrong video but I'm still thinking about the band saw video you upgraded to for cutting cooking wood chunks. I like to eliminate steps and equipment... what if you cut two inch discs with the chain saw and stacked 9 in the wood splitter then split those to fill an entire 5 gallon bucket or cut almost all the way through an 18 inch length of log 9 times but left them together then split that to fill a bucket. The chain saw seems so much faster than the band saw. I hope my comment makes sense and I enjoy your videos so much.
You can't get just the tank, it's a all in one unit from harbor freight. Now I have a spare pump. I could buy a seperarate pump and bladder tank, but I prefer the compact all in one units.
Hey Andrew. What make pump was the new one? I'm putting in a pump before spring for my garden and have the old one in my cart. Just curious about your new one. Thanks Bud
You teach in research and experience the real stuff. So you've got nothing but honest reviews of everything! Sorry to put you on such a pedestal. Andrew, hahaha
So, I held off commenting until all the evidence was in. By viewing satellite footage (zoomed in like CSI), it is clear. Andrew was "Ghost Riding" his tractor while dancing on one of the fenders... An inadvertent twerk caused him to lose his balance and pirouette onto his butt in the field. By the time he caught back up to the tractor, the damage has been done. While some may be skeptical of my interpretation of the events, Andrew could always provide the footage of "The Accident". We all know that he had at least one camera rolling at the time... ;-)
OOPS! At least it didn't end up being much worse. A shame about the pump, but I'll bet it doesn't happen again...gotta love learning experiences. Thanks for sharing your faux pas and letting us all know that you AREN'T always so damn perfect😛😛😛
Andrew, maybe you should put some kind of guard rail in front of the pumps. Piece of mind. Always enjoy your projects and videos. You're one of the best!

You are correct, never put a filter on suction side of pump. Cavitation will cause more damage than the sand.

It's a once a year chore, but yes a valve would be good for quick winterizing.

Oh wow! That's crazy, things can happen quickly.
Well it’s a testament to the well constructed shed cover as it sustained the blow and kept standing. The pump not so much. Great job with the repairs.
I guess that's true.

The sun was in your eyes! Sorry this happened but I was really surprised to see the rusty spots on the tank under the paint.
That's because this happened a little while ago and there has been a couple of rains.

I've got a backup pump, and spare parts to rebuild my hand pump if need be. I'm covered in the event of any sort of breakdown.
I remember when I was a little boy living in Arkansas Daddy showed me had a prime to pump so he can get water
Not many know anymore.
As much as that stinks, I’m glad it wasn’t worse than it could have been.
I'm very happy it didn't destroy my well pipe.
I think the blue pump looks better anyway. 😁 That would be my silver lining about the mistake.

Hello Mr Ron!
Might consider a decorative picket fence to protect the well area. Might also do the same with the well in your yard.😊
I'm planning a pump house for the one in the yard.

No way to attach before or after the hand pump. You can build a sediment filter out of buckets that you pump into.

The problem is that the disc's make odd shape pieces that won't gravity flow through my smoker hopper. But that should work fine for other purposes.
Look at it like this, it very easily could have been alot worse, easy mistake for anyone to do. Don't let it get you down to bad.

Andrew what size is the new well pump?
I don't know the tank size, but it's a 1 hp shallow well jet pump with bladder tank. I could probably get away with a 1/2 or 3/4 hp pump.
