- The GLS exhibits exceptional body roll management. When navigating through tight corners or during rapid directional changes, it maintains a remarkable level of poise and stability, significantly reducing the lateral tilt often experienced in large SUVs. This level of control is noticeably superior to that of the BMW X7. While the X7 offers commendable ride quality, it doesn’t quite match the GLS in terms of mitigating body roll.
In contrast, the X7's diesel engine sets a new standard for refinement in its class. Remarkably, it produces a sound more akin to a petrol engine, exuding a sportier tone that's quite uncommon in diesel variants. This could be attributed to BMW's possible use of sound augmentation through the vehicle's speakers, an increasingly popular technique in modern automotive design. This approach gives the X7 an auditory edge, particularly for those who favor a more engaging driving experience.
Conversely, the Mercedes-Benz GLS, while robust, exhibits a more traditional diesel engine note. It lacks the sporty acoustics of the X7, adhering to what one might expect from a luxury diesel SUV. In terms of transmission dynamics, the BMW again takes the lead with smoother gear shifts. The GLS, particularly in lower gears, can sometimes feel jerky, lacking the seamless transition found in the X7.
However, the GLS offers a dedicated manual shifting mode, accessible via the car's settings menu. This mode allows for prolonged gear engagement and manual control using paddle shifters, appealing to drivers who desire a more hands-on approach. The BMW, though it also has manual control option, tends to revert back to automatic mode more quickly. This distinction might sway enthusiasts who prefer sustained manual control over their vehicle's transmission behaviour.

Just a quick question…..which one is more comfortable? X7 or GLS?
The Mercedes GLS offers superior front seat comfort, while the BMW X7 outshines in rear seat luxury and boasts a quieter cabin. Though both have similar overall ride quality, for a long drive as a passenger, the X7’s combination of exceptional rear-seat comfort and a more quieter interior makes it my top choice.
