Feints are not so hard to read but spamming feints sometimes turns into broken animation. It looks like your opponent feint-to-drag but somehow you take a hit just before visible texture of weapon lands at your hitbox. In other words you got hit before animation of your opponent's strike had finished.
"Feints are not so hard to read " Against weapons like : bs, war hammer, 1h axe ect IO would have to disagree. And I tell you what, for people like me, with poor internet, feints are actually impossible to read with fast weapons.
@@cedricmiller1319 As much as I like the game it really is mechanically flawed. It essentially boils down to rock paper scissors. I would compare the game to poker as in both you are fundamentally only gambling, but with the added "mind reading" (which is personally the fun part in my opinion). The problem comes when people spam the feints and combine that with mouse movement all over the place which makes it really hard to read their attacks, can't even chamber them cause half the time i don't know which angle the strike is coming from.
The game is broken and chambers aren't low risk=high reward type of a deal as he says. Mouse manipulation, morphs and constant feint spam make chambers risky to perform with little reward since they can easily parry a chamber riposte easily or chamber it against you. You can always turn a chamber into a morph or a drag but then again if the player is good enough he will just parry or counter it. The most reliable way to play this game is to feint and gamble in general and FTP(feint-to-parry) as defense measure. Once you boil down the combat in this game it's actually not deep at all.
@@biterness2323 right now everyone is unhappy with the current combat in the game and top players are all complaining about chamber feint to parry vs 50/50s so if you can chamber properly it's one of the most powerful things you can do in the game. and the 'if the player is good enough he will just counter it' is just nonsense, if that's the case you might as well not do anything because you think they'll 'just counter it'. the simplest changeups will often throw off some of the best players.

Honestly I thought I was destined to suck ass at this game until I got a 144hz monitor. Those extra 84 frames really make it easy to differentiate from a feint and a real attack.
The problem with feints for newcomers is experience. and there is no REAL practice against it other then an insane amount of hours played. Thats why they dont make sense. not because they are "just hard". The comical clip roundabout 35 seconds mark illustrates the problem perfectly. the supposed "noob" in green is actually parrying after the weapon goes forward. this makes perfect sense. The guy is actually watching for the end of release fase and only presses parry after the weapon goes forward. This moving forward of the weapon is indistinguishable from the weapon swinging for new players and i'd say they are not doing anything wrong here. the only thing they did wrong is not spend their life playing this game so all the weapon timings and animations are etched in their brains
Stab animations have improved a lot. This is more for defend an companion who panic parry's: You can stop a strike with a stab, targeting the enemy's weapon. " Clash - Clashing is where you and your opponent time your attacks so they land upon each other's weapons during the release phase. This deals zero damage to either combatant, and also allows both players to immediately attack again " works best when u drag your stab trough the path of an active (released) weapon.
Another way to get good at feints is to unbind the parry key so you literally can't parry. When you can't rely on parrying to save you, you will be forced to learn to chamber or dodge. (do this against bots first before you try it on a server).

When I duel I usually listen to music pretty loud, have no issues reading most feints even without grunts. Just took lots of experience getting my ass handed to me until I memorized the attack timings for pretty much every weapon.
Listening for grunts is still very important! You don't parry when you hear the grunt. You cannot feint after a grunt because that means the attack has entered release phase. This helps me so much on duels. If the is no grunt, I anticipate the feint and counter with a kick. Giving me the upper hand in stamina
it is not recommended, but just gamble swing (chamber is much much better, but it depends on ur skill) and prepare to parry is almost the best counter action
Some feints are literally impossible to hard read so at that point you're just fucked, like there is either literally absolutely zero time between release and getting hit, or you get hit while the windup animation is playing.
As a very new player - feints and morphs seem fine to me and add depth. I'm completely fine getting stomped by people who have been playing for years when I've been playing like a week.
I had this game and played for over 100 hours and I quit because of tryhards and people who abuse broken mechanics in the game and it made the game I like the idea of very un enjoyable and aggravating
@@Inconspicuous-Gnome yes broken mechanics. Like how the war axe accel hits pretty much instantly or how stab feints are literally impossible to read (as stated by the devs themselves).
A trick I just started using is I noticed non of the weapons move forward during the feint phase ( all feints move backwards until the swing leaves the feint phase ) So as soon as you notice budys swing moving in a forwards motion towards you know it’s a locked and loaded swing and he cannot feint it. Drags how ever I don’t have a trick for yet
if you go for a chamber in a drag, but it fails because the timing was off due to enemies drag, BUT you accel your attack, will you be faster than their drag? Maybe with faster weapons with shorter range.
I don't think there's really a trick for "reading" feints because every top player still falls for them randomly, and if you actually wait until the perfect time to parry you will red parry as the server physically can't handle timings that precise (let alone human reaction time needing to be about 100 ms). But for drags you don't have to read them, if you just type m.pingextrapolationfactor 0 into the console it will make weapon swings have readable tracers, and with readable tracers all you have to do is early parry and look at the weapon tip and you'll be able to get extended parry very consistently. If you try to hard read feints/drags you will just die to accels because that's how the game works. If really the best players could hard read then every fight in the game would be decided by who swung first, which is obviously not the case.
Gio Gio The only feints I’ve been falling for since I started using this technique are the horizontal swing feints where they have their body positioned to strike me as fast as the game lets them hit me. But when we talking about body positioning when swinging we basically talking about reading drags and access now Anytime someone does this accel feint thing he could have made it a drag insted of a feint
@@shillhuntingseason9707 I mean I don't consider feints that aren't "perfect" to be feints. If someone runs up to you and 1 frame microfeints do you consider that "reading" the feint if you don't even see it? No one smart is going to feint if they're not in that position for it to be unreadable anyway, let alone even be raw feinting at all. But I disagree about there being no difference between a drag and a feint. If you extended parry well enough it doesn't matter what swing manip they do because early release is parriable. The real difference is between micro/macro feints. Microfeints you can "read" but they punish early parries. Macro feints are the ones you're talking about that are unreadable but they are defendable with early parries because there's an eternity of time in between feint and punish, and if you duck and look back while holding rmb you're basically guaranteed a double parry.
Hard reading has become far less viable than it used to be because of one handed accels. there are weapons in mordhau where you simply dont have time to react with a hard read, and thats one handed weapons.
Riposts can 100% be morphed. I'm AWFUL at feinting, dragging, etc, but if i do a parry/ripost and morph from a thrust to a swing, people fall for it quite often. The timing is tricky but its definitely a thing
You can’t morph a ripost. You can however feint your ripost therefore canceling it and quickly morphing your next attack so it looks like you morphed your ripost.
feint spam and morph feinting made me stop playing tbh, back when I used to play chiv 1 there was this unwritten rule in duel yards that feinting was prohibited and it was fun, the game had a lot of mix ups, drags, accels, feinting is unnecessary.
I've gotten better at reading feints. I practice with a bot blocking at the last second. It's the fast weapons that get me some times. You think it will be a accel so you parry early.
I just walk away from people who do faints makes the game boring since most people spam it. That's how you deal with it by not allowing the other person to have fun walk away from the fight start fighting someone new and ignore them for the rest of the match works every time for me.
I dont think that listening for the grunt is terrible advice thats one of the main ways i counter feints once you learn how to read accels then listening for the grunt is amazing
Weapons like the BAxe, PoleAxe and longsword have insanely fast accels, and the zweihander and eveningstar have deceptive drags, so if your fighting against a half decent player who knows how to pull off swing manipulation, listening to the grunt becomes useless.
you try SWINGING a 20 pound hammer, and then STOP right as you swing it. The shock load on your connective tissue alone would severely decrease your fighting ability. But this is a game, and a really dumb one at that.
So listen, got a question. AFter watching this guide, i started focusing on chambering, which is not that difficult. But, the problem is, all my 1x1 fights turned into just chamber exchange fest. I chamber - he chambers - I chamber - he chambers, etc etc, and in the end, while we are doing this, 3 of his teammates run up to me and destroy me, so this chambering doesnt really lead to anything. How do i go on the offense in this situation, how do i hit the opponent? Also, maybe you oculd make a video(or just give a written explanation) on how to defend against multiple opponents?
Not sure if you're still interested, but he who brakes the cycle will have the upper hand. Say you're getting into a chamber trade with someone, you can either morph the chamber into something else, combine with a drag, or a chamber feint. Or my favorite to restart the duel, just block. It's important too get your opponent comfortable with what you're doing, and suddenly do something else, which will throw them off balance. Also, I recommend just playing duel servers, Frontline is fun, but it's not a good place to build your skill when dueling. However if you still want to try it, when you're in a duel with two people, I reposte one attack to the other.
Chamber doesn't works when u get hit by an arrow, a little stone, a shit of horse/pig or every damage (ennemy from behind in 1vX) ; because the game delete our attack when we try to chamber and get hurt during the same time. chamber is not good for all feints, only in 1v1 and it depend of ur weapon and the ennemy's weapon. If u have a polehammer and the ennemy has a rapier, he can feint u then strike, u can chamber his first feint he just hit u first because his weapon is faster than ours
What about the glitch that, one can do 2 feint animations for the cost of just the first one? They never fixed this. It makes feinting even worse than it is.
Great Vid. I played a lot of Chivalry and recently I started playing Mordhau. In my opinion the game would be considerably better withouth feints. New players would have a better time with the game and in my opinion drags, accels and movement already make the game complex and open to improvement. Anyways, feints are in the game, so we gotta learn how to deal with them lol
"Hard reading" nah fam you can't. Problem is you can have the best reading in the game, you have to fall for it sometimes cuz accels on this game are too stupids, some weapon as messer, ls, baxe alt, poleaxe alt, gs is too fast. So either you fall for it or you can't react to parry. AND THATS the ultimate problem. Its so much like "casino" kind of.
yeah that messer accel from neutral shows them standing there, 1 frame of a weapon right in front of your eyeballs, then you get hit. trying to chamber or hard read that feint is basically gambling
all the twitching dudes out there spamming feints 3 times in a row before attacking you... im glad one swing is faster then a feint and they taste instand my sword for that
This is Mordhau's biggest problem, unless you sit there and grind your skills out in single player, you're gonna get absolute sh!t on the moment you step online. This is fine for games like Dark Souls where the single player is awesome and multiplayer is just an added bonus to the game, but in Mordhau single player is just grinding NPCs in a boring sandbox map. A good game should be enjoyable from day 1, not after putting in 100+ hours of homework.
chambers are easy to pull off... unless your opponent is spinning like a fuckin Beyblade and headbanging like its a Megadeth concert making overheads look like underhands

i dont know what to do when people are fainting alot and then accelerating into attacks that got me confused af
As a very new player - feints and morphs seem fine to me and add depth. I'm completely fine getting stomped by people who have been playing for years when I've been playing like a week.
Wow a down to earth mordhau new player. What a breath of fresh air. Godspeed you legend
I had this game and played for over 100 hours and I quit because of tryhards and people who abuse broken mechanics in the game and it made the game I like the idea of very un enjoyable and aggravating
Broken mechanics?
git gud
@@Inconspicuous-Gnome yes broken mechanics. Like how the war axe accel hits pretty much instantly or how stab feints are literally impossible to read (as stated by the devs themselves).
Chambers! I never even thought about that
A trick I just started using is I noticed non of the weapons move forward during the feint phase
( all feints move backwards until the swing leaves the feint phase )
So as soon as you notice budys swing moving in a forwards motion towards you know it’s a locked and loaded swing and he cannot feint it.
Drags how ever I don’t have a trick for yet
if you go for a chamber in a drag, but it fails because the timing was off due to enemies drag, BUT you accel your attack, will you be faster than their drag? Maybe with faster weapons with shorter range.
@@Champion_Eternal nope, drag hits everytime in that situation
Gio Gio
The only feints I’ve been falling for since I started using this technique are the horizontal swing feints where they have their body positioned to strike me as fast as the game lets them hit me.
But when we talking about body positioning when swinging we basically talking about reading drags and access now
Anytime someone does this accel feint thing he could have made it a drag insted of a feint
A hard read originated from predicting an opponent so hard its like reading a book till he dies. So I dont think youre using it right
Legit could not deal with them at all. Ended up just bringing along a shield for every build and hoping the stamina deficit didn’t end me.
The really hard to read feints are the ones from the maul, rapier, and the other fast weapons like the cleaver and arming sword. For me.
You cant morph from a riposte
You can’t morph a ripost. You can however feint your ripost therefore canceling it and quickly morphing your next attack so it looks like you morphed your ripost.
Hes talking about non riposte feints/morph (not riposting but pretending to do one by mimicking the timing)
Enter the feint spamming dwarf with a maul who consistently bashes in everyone's skull on the duel server
could have just said "get good"
if i knew how to chamber every attack, i would not have troubles with faints
feint spam and morph feinting made me stop playing tbh, back when I used to play chiv 1 there was this unwritten rule in duel yards that feinting was prohibited and it was fun, the game had a lot of mix ups, drags, accels, feinting is unnecessary.
Feint makes combat more interesting, just get good at the game
I've gotten better at reading feints. I practice with a bot blocking at the last second. It's the fast weapons that get me some times. You think it will be a accel so you parry early.
To do all this you just need one thing: A lot of hours++ in Mordhau
*_Play Modded Horde and don't Duel with the hackers in this video. Level 240 in Horde Only._* *^^*
Thanks for the tips, but maybe it would be good if they added a 20 stamina penalty for a second consecutive faint, maybe
I think an increased stamina cost for each consecutive feint would be an interesting idea
I have a method that relies heavily on remembering when release time ends, is it a valid strategy?
you try SWINGING a 20 pound hammer, and then STOP right as you swing it.
Morphs counter chambers
Chamber doesn't works when u get hit by an arrow, a little stone, a shit of horse/pig or every damage (ennemy from behind in 1vX) ; because the game delete our attack when we try to chamber and get hurt during the same time. chamber is not good for all feints, only in 1v1 and it depend of ur weapon and the ennemy's weapon. If u have a polehammer and the ennemy has a rapier, he can feint u then strike, u can chamber his first feint he just hit u first because his weapon is faster than ours
chamber is the best option for newcomers in my opinion
What is the name of the beat in the backgroud please? Great video btw
Nvm I found it. It's Lil Tubz - This is Home
Literally the first step is get lucky LOL
nice tutorial! You should do a how to deal with gambles!
how to deal with gambles: riposte, cftp, ftp, gamble back.
Ok Arnold! Nice one
im proud of myselft i have implemented all these tips without watching any video about it be4 :D Still very interesting!
Thanks for the helpful video, time to use a spear and horse
I wouldn't say that listening for the grunt was horrible advise. It certainly doesn't help against accels but the animations don't help there either
i bought the game 2 day ago, i'm already silver 5 / gold 1 and now i discover spam feinter... its horrible so i try hard train in chamber
What about the glitch that, one can do 2 feint animations for the cost of just the first one? They never fixed this.
It makes feinting even worse than it is.
i just chamber, then it turns out i managed to hit them because they feinted
I can't do hard read with feints due to 150+ ping, so I just strike to parry and attack so that they have to parry
0:32 lol
subbed
Ignore the grunt its meaningless to listen for it unless its your girlfriend
this is why i only play horde so i didnt waste my money on the game
If I know he feints a lot I just spam attack til he stops.
How do people feint and not lose stamina???
"Hard reading" nah fam you can't. Problem is you can have the best reading in the game, you have to fall for it sometimes cuz accels on this game are too stupids, some weapon as messer, ls, baxe alt, poleaxe alt, gs is too fast. So either you fall for it or you can't react to parry. AND THATS the ultimate problem. Its so much like "casino" kind of.
yeah that messer accel from neutral shows them standing there, 1 frame of a weapon right in front of your eyeballs, then you get hit. trying to chamber or hard read that feint is basically gambling
You underestimate good players
@@Inconspicuous-Gnome I'm myself a top 100..
In medieval times, you dont got rick rolled... you got feinted
I cannot fucking faint some 1-handed weapons for hell, like people who accel the small hammer. Shit's so fucking fast I cant react to it
Me after 2 days of playing mordhau: they feint just kick
How do i open the console? Tilde doesnt work
you can set a keybind in the game options
Noice
all the twitching dudes out there spamming feints 3 times in a row before attacking you... im glad one swing is faster then a feint and they taste instand my sword for that
what "chamber" mean please?
I hate feints, but if you took them out of the game it would just be constant sword clashing.
I always get pissed when I see someone spam feint repeatedly like I’m not falling for it so STOP
Are you from norway?
4:41 they didn't fix this till now, right?
Nope.
@@KingLouie111 good to know, I thought I'm just being retarded af ;)
This the one thing that makes this game sucks. So anti climactic. Feints should be removed.
