The thing about Pax Dei is, that, with how much you have to "grind" materials for crafting if you wanna get anywhere, that sense of familiarity that usually ties you to a game sets in pretty fast. Within a couple of hours of starting, you'll have "your" boar spot and "your" cotton spot and "your" deer spot and "your" clay spot and "your" iron spot, etc etc etc (and be silently cursing other players for building right on the waterside and thus, eliminating the clay spawns there *lol*) which, of course, is an important factor in creating that kind of familiarity.
MMO and Sandbox-survival are just 2 things that don't mix. A couple games have tried it but they tend to be 95% survival multiplayer, 5% MMO. It's an alpha-project so hopefully we see some more MMO in Pax Dei because it has nothing MMO related yet.
Well, I've seen some pretty awesome builds so far on the test servers when people get together literally castles. Apparently they are shooting for up to an estimated 7000 people per shard. But I can agree there is much more work needed to be done, especially in the MMO aspect!
Given that some former EVE devs are on the project I expect the real fun to begin when you leave the starting valley. The PVP struggle over the control of resource rich lands, the transportation of goods between regions, etc. I do wonder what the resource sink will be though. It's not like you can explode spaceships in medieval europe.
@@gardod In alpha 2, equipment had a lifetime durability. Once that runs out, it can't be repaired and needs to be replaced. Other than consumables, I'm not sure if any other resource sinks were present at the time. (not counting building because at the time there didn't seem to be a reason it might need to be rebuilt.)
I hope that they live in the way you can make a blue print, for example a building. And put it in a public place so that other players can pick it up and create the same building. Has the idea from Midlieval Engineers
I played this alpha and I was left feeling divided. Visually, it looks good, but the crafting needs rework. You learning recipes but can't craft them - because you need the right workbench and the game does not explain which one You need. For example, to learn leatherworking you need blacksmithing. Crafting times - 20 min for 40 charcoal, to craft an iron ingot You need 80 charcoal and 1 hour. As a result, all player bases were like 4 charcoal kilns + 2 Furnaces
Great video. As an old time MMO gamer I couldn't help being reminded of UO. I was thinking, wow, they are trying to upgrade UO with 30 years of technology advancement. Thanks
That moment I secured my UO house next to a stream, bridge and statue, beating out many other people camping the spot was peak UO. When I learned how to vend and make money, it got better. Then WoW hooked me. UO has that special spot in my gaming heart.
i was in the Alpha testing and I was amazed at how few bugs there actually were. I was annoyed by other things, like not knowing how to make storage containers for several days, low inventory stack sizes and chests that didn't hold that much. But oh my Gods is the game beautiful! The game is a combination of Valheim building with Final Fantasy crafting.
It’s sooo many games now that use this exact group of graphics in their world when they do game dev They just buy the rights to unreal engine fives shrubs and grass and then go “here’s the same shit different name”
having your home valley being safe from pvp is a gamechanger! i hope the gameplay improves as development continues... especially gindy ass harvesting, i hate how grindy crafting and harvesting is in modern survival games
13:20 I think, you never mentioned day and night in your BDO video. Did they removed it or did just not mentioned it? In old days (I didn't played since 2021) at night time, could you visit a special NPC to get great deals and you get 10% or more do when grinding, so people activated all xo buffs at night and grinded then with huge buff combinations. People like me loved to grind only at night and enjoy at (ingame) daytime the other features. I think the night does last 2 to 4 hours.
i just want voxel building. it's the future. dual universe has come the closest to true freedom through voxelmancy building, but they paired it with some very questionable mechanics choices, making it essentially unplayable. more dev teams need to learn from their mistakes and pick up where their building system left off.
I'm assuming they fixed building elements to have more rotational positions other than 90°. If not, then enshrouded building is subpar. Icarus does a better job at building than enshrouded.
I absolutely can not wait for this game.. I am a gatherer / crafter at heart so chopping all those trees and mining those rocks and building my house is going to keep me pretty busy.. I always tell my guildmates if they need any mats just ask me.. I'll have or get it for you.. lol I am a hoarder. I play New World for the gathering and the fishing but I feel Pax is going to make me uninstall NW. See you guys ingame. :D
I attempted to play this, the game shifted my plot by about 15 feet while I was offline. This allowed everyone to raid my storage since it was outside my plot boundary due to the shift. The grind is awful and losing everything was enough for me to uninstall. I'm not going back.
Lol who is saying this is a Rust rip off, of all the survival crafting base building games out there, why would you ever pick Rust as the blueprint for this game. This just shows the shallowness of gamers these days, they play one game from a genre and then all other games that share a similar set of mechanics is just a copy of their one experience.
As an Ashes of Creation enthusiast, i'm watching this game closely. it looks really good and possibly the contender for Ashes. I hope they push eachother and grow from eachother.
@@WrestleHammer because the concept of the game is just minecraft in UE5 but you are extremely limited how big you can build, and u cant terraform either
As someone who's played both the Pax Dei alpha and Valheim - no, not really. Overall feeling's totally different in Pax Dei plus - Valheim's designed as solo game with coop option whereas Pax Dei is definitely designed for multiplayer. In Valheim, you can do pretty much everything on your own. In Pax Dei, there's so much crafting going on that at some point, you won't have any other choice but to specialize in something and find players to trade with for the stuff you need but can't make yourself.
Only thing I keep hearing about this game is how it looks and what a fuck ton of ppl can build never what someone solo could realistically build. Is the game even good???
this game looks like a copy paste of gloria victis lol i wish that games dev didnt hate himself and not like money... its a shame. i hope combat will be similar to that game.
I don't think the combat is even close to finished in this alpha test, its pretty barebones at the moment and I'm expecting in future playtests we will start seeing some updates on that front.
It'll be pretty cool and is very pretty. Definitely needs optimization but I like the crafting and building. The world seems massive. Plenty of things in the game remind me of Wild Terra 2 or Fractured Online. I had to tweak settings and fight the game a bit to get it to run smoothly on my 7900XT. It crashed a bit and most likely has memory leaks. I look forward to Pax Dei, it's like Valhiem but an MMO. Well, Wild Terra 2 and Fractured are both MMO's just Diablo style. It actually made me jump back on Wild Terra 2.
How is this any better or different to Conan Exiles, Rust, Ark, etc? This doesn't even *feel* like an MMO, not to mention the absolutely terrible combat... for survival fans I guess it's good food, but there are a shitload of options if that's your favorite genre.
Gotta love people who do very little outside of playing video games throwing out negativity. Clearly the person people don’t want around because all they do is complain about things they’re not freaking out about lol.
@@widdabois So, you got all that from me having an opinion? Games are so rubbish nowadays because of people like you. Still paying your £60 for a buggy, half-finished game. The game is lazy, it's not tried to do anything new and I can't believe anyone is defending it. Oh, and you don't know me keep your presumptuous comments to yourself.
Looks boring AF and honestly everything I see there is being already done by a lot of Survival RPG ... I do not see the appeal. I also think this game will die very quickly once big guild just roll on anyone. This is just not for MMO setup.
