Thanks for this video Mike. It answered a few questions about Barry Harris approaches. I know more now than I used to but I'm still a bit vague on what Barry Harris' concept of movement is ? I've spent many years learning regular tonal practices and wonder how much time I have left to learn Barry Harris. I understand the C6thdim Scale and how the two chords are derived from it but feel a bit weird working with two chords instead of the regular seven diatonic chords. Cheers, Kevin 😁
The chord scales work if you think of them as voice leading. It’s also fun to loop a c chord and play some of Barry’s chords to it . Just play, for instance, different voicings of the two chords.
Hello Kevin, thanks for your comment. The Barry Harris approach can seem a bit overwhelming however more than anyhing it's a paradigm shift, and like everything the more we use this approach the morefamiliar the sounds will become. Over the next few videos I'll attempt to demystify some of the concepts. In short the Barry Harris method does not replace the traditional diatonic harmony it gives us freedom of movement and a vast range of tonal colors for the creative musician. Cheers. Mike
Hello and thank you for your comment. This video is the first in a series demonstrating how to apply the Barry Harris method to your music. Subsequent videos will delve further into how to use specific aspects of Barry's approach. All the very best. Mike
