Nate Walcott did all the string arrangements. Conor wrote this song after waking up from a surreal dream during touring where he dreamt a friend of his, who never sang, was singing lime tree in a very heavenly voice. Conor woke up and creeped out of his bunk and went to the back room of the tour bus and wrote it all from start to finish on his guitar. This is probably my favorite song from the album, but thats hard to say. Since the whole thing is so great!
I get shivers listening to this song.. especially live. The emotion he puts into his songs live is outstanding and really lets you know it means something. :)
This verse hits me hard too... resonates too perfectly in my life right now. Brilliant as always...Conor, you never disappoint!! ❤ ❤ ❤ Take it easy, Quinci...my new friend!! :)
Quinci Chapple Indeed, it is nice to meet you, through a beautiful song. It's amazing how Conor writes such incredible songs that are relatable to people everywhere... of all ages, genders, etc. And yet I find it hard to meet others in person that know his music or are into it... that's if they've even heard of him. I think others have this experience as well. I enjoy talking to people that are big fans that really know his music and get all the little intricacies and symbolism found throughout the vast catalogue of songs across his many incarnations as a musical artist. What are some of your favorite songs of his? I'd love to share thoughts and any other lyrics that really hit home with you. Hope to hear from you again soon, friend!! 💜
I completely agree! Conor is such a legend and his work certainly has fans young and old all over the world yet I have never run into another who is a mega fan to talk about the music with. They seem hard to find! Maybe in time as I am quite young. Anyway, his vast catalogue is something to live for! I too love the ideas and details throughout it. Hmmm it would be my pleasure to share my fav songs, but it is always so tough to decide as I adore all of them- nonetheless... The Difference In The Shades is in my top...the melody alone blows my mind. When he says "your heart collects and projects itself on a movie screen" it sums up the simultaneous closeness to and distance from life that I feel. I'm always picturing that lyric in my head and all the other incredibly descriptive poetry in that song; so lively and beautiful. Another is Motion Sickness. It's funny..I don't think I ever related to the story in this song, at least not yet I suppose, but again, the melody and chords I just love. The sound of it is calm yet grasping and howling. Always felt a lot of soul in this one. And of course when he says "Will you look for my in that strange, bright place? Where the statues bloom in the park, they don't need no rain." it's just so beautiful and full of meaning...I think about those lines a lot. That a cemetery is actually full of life rather than death. The closeness of life and death in these lines. The way he makes the gravestones plants that don't need water...no life can be deprived of an ending. I don't know I'm still trying to get right what it means. I love when Conor paints these pictures...it makes me want to listen to the songs over and over again to relive the unveiling of the images. And one lyric that rings so true to me is "how bittersweet is love's illusion, feelings that cannot be proven" from Common Knowledge. I don't even know how he penned this to be honest...it's timeless incite and sounds beautiful too. He is seriously a genius. I always feel myself overflowing with love for everyone and everything, but love is this invisible thing that isn't always exchanged...yet Conor makes me think it doesn't have to be or maybe isn't even supposed to be. Hahaah it tells my story of obsession with appreciating other people. I love to do it for the sake of loving, yet it always seems inadequate; that the ones I love can never understand how I feel so I'm just left alone, arguing with myself and striving to prove to them something that doesn't need to be and cannot be proven! Yet loving is the best part of life so I must continue. I'm probably making no sense, but I see this issue straightened out by Conor's words here. I could go on and on for favorite lyrics and there is an endless amount to say about all of the songs he's made and how they all connect, but I'll stop here and ask for some of your favorites too! Thanks for inquiring, friend.
thanks. great comment! the couple behind us wished it so much that it became a dream/reality thing. we wrote it for them cuz we had such a magical night
