    It's not a basking shark fin coz the video is a reconstruction. There's no reason white sharks can't be in British water there's a food sorce for them n the conditions r good. I personally would welcome them, they're amazing creatures!

    def not a great white in the Hebrides far too far north for them no great white has ever been recorded that far north if there are any great whites in uk (which is doubtful as always turns out to b a porbeagle or basking shark being misidentified) waters it will bee of the south coast most likely cornwall in summer due to the gulf stream. but i doubt great whites are visiting as if they were with the amount of fishing vessels in uk waters one would of been captured in nets or long lines by now

    Of course it was a Great White. Perfect conditions for them. The only reason you don't hear so much about them is because no one SWIMS IN SUCH COLD WATER so no attacks... doesn't mean they're not there! That is NOT a basking shark dorsal... They're definitely there in British waters. No reason for them not to be.

      Do you seriously not get the fact that the dramatisation in this video is just fiction, not facts? That`s pretty dumb. Out of their normal habitat and not being able to maintain a high enough bodytemperature is more than enough to keep the shark from attacking prey like they are used to which is a good thing for swimmers. I bet they are out there alright but their behaviour is not the same in colder waters.

    • @dnt5volvo
      @dnt5volvo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mybluebelly that is not fiction in any way.. great whites are very much used to colder waters.. hence the southern ocean.. colder seas are much better for having an extremely high proportion of species .. all which serve as great food source for many of the inhabitants.. esp fish for seals..

    2) why wouldnt a hungry great white eat the seal rather the just bite it in half and leave it?

      Jamie you should learn your subject a bit better,great white sharks exist and are resident in waters colder than that of Britain and Ireland.
      There in the same shark family as porbeagles and makos both of which are found in UK waters,our waters aren't as cold as they should be because of the gulf stream.

      Great whites have a number of abilities that other sharks don't have. If u look at their bodies they are more of a torpedo type shape&their fins look a lot stiffer than that if other sharks in fact apart from the tail the others dnt look as if to move at all. Their shape&stiffness of their fins allows them to move through the water without drag enabling them to move faster&further than most other sharks. The fact that they live alone&are nt social is another. They dnt need to squabble/race for their food as other sharks do nor do they go into a frenzy they don't need to. They will size each other up from a distance&automatically give way to any great white that are larger than themselves. This reduces the risk of injury&also waste of energy. As a great white needs lots of calories nt just because of their size bt because their body has to be continuely moving at certain pace in order for them to breathe. They also hunt by ambush hunting their prey from below often breaching the surface of the water & can jump very high heights out of the water aswell. Not all great whites eat the same foods. Bt the main reasons that it's very possible that they are in UK waters is the enormous abundance of food&hugh numbers of seal colonies. Predators of the seal are the great white&orca so not much competition&more than enough for everyone. Also seals here will often stay at the same places all Yr round depending on the food sources for examples in harbours they know that the fishing boats are constantly in&out regularly tossing over fish or whatever that can't be sold so easy pickings. Another strong reason is that apart from humans the great whites only natural threat is the orca who will eat the livers of great whites. Not all orcas as their food sources differ from each other just the same bt some groups do&specialise in it too. The fact that great whites only swim in warm waters is a massive myth&misconception&could be a huge mistake assuming so. The huge unique ability of the great white is that they regulate their own body temperature. Whereas others sharks will have the same temperature as the water the great white usable t pi keep the core if their body's warm by the movement of their muscles. This does burn extra calories however it enables them to have more access for opportunities for food sources. In fact great whites dnt love hot sea temperatures. All the places that great whites u will notice the waters are of similar colouring unlike the more clear waters as they wouldn't have the camouflage they use for stalking&hunting. A great white can appear from nowhere & disappear just as easily. So the regulation of their body temperature allows them to survive in much colder waters than many ppl realise. So yes its very entirely possible they are here I personally think they have been for very long time. They may nt come as close to the beaches as they do in other places bt they dnt need to as they're spoilt for choice here food wise. So will all those facts based in. Mind yes the seas around the UK are perfect conditions for sharks so before u assume the fact that they aren't in the watera&go jumping in that sea think again!!! Cuz I know i wouldn't be 😂

      They can stand pretty cold water cause of there ability to increese there tempurature while in coold water.The water around Sout Africa for instnce is only holding like 10 to 15 Celcius.Of course this varies..So they can be over the whole world exept the coldest places like near the 2 poles.They are roaming over extreme distance..
