I'm on a Mike Masse binge. I'm so glad I stumbled upon you. I love the song Africa and searched for covers and as I said before, I'm on a Mike Masse binge!
How can people have so many subs and fans in the world and have no talent like most of the pop stars today, and these guys playing in a pizza place ? I don't understand it. These guys gives me the chills and I would love to see them live ! Greetings from Denmark
Morten Jensen Well said my friend. You just touched a very fucked up issue pertaining to Music industry. Thats how it works today. Its not just talent. Its who you know.
If you're not singing about sex, drugs and money (self indulgence), your music means nothing when it comes to being "popular". That's all they play on the radio. Atleast where I live. REAL talent goes unnoticed, it's mostly teenagers making music on the computer. I have a lot of respect for Mike Masse and I hope he gets notice. Huge fan. I bring him up EVERYTIME a "cover" is mentioned. I really hope someone important discovers his music and starts selling his stuff. I'd definetly buy it.
I'm sad that it's taken me this long to find the amazing music of Mike Masse and Jeff Hall. Such gifted musicians and singers. Just a perfect rendition of a classic. Bravo.
Rehe Ruesch So you get defensive about a vocalization that you hold no claim or control over. It was his opinion and I agree. There are various covers that they play better, but not this one. Once any piece of work is released to the public criticism of said work is warranted. That was his criticism, which is warranted.
If I don't agree with the comment, which was unsupported, I must avail myself the opportunity to redirect. Unless the criticism is specific and objective, in which case, I'd have let it stand.+Dave Johnston. Unless you're an Ikon in the genre, you dont get to be diminuitive without objectively supporting your position.
I was saying that we all have a right to our; opinions and entitlements, but using another's quote to give someone destructive criticism, especially when the quote is poorly placed and has little to do with the overall conversation, doesn't help with anything. All it does is show that you didn't want any feedback in any way, shape, or form. You should have responded to him in a way that explained why you thought your' opinions, not in a way that did nothing but make him just stop.
As a musician & singer I can say that was one of the best covers of the song "The Sound of Silence" I've ever heard in my life time. I give that song a 10+.
Perfect voices! I know this video was recorded a long time ago. But i Always linten to it. Congratulations on the beautiful work! a hug from your fans in Brazil!
If you’re reading this, Mike, you and Jeff absolutely nail these songs...awesome vocals and tasteful musicianship. In another era, you would have been massive. Thanks for doing what you do, Sir!
As I return and listen to this for the 5 th time I can't help but wonder how 433 people could give this a thumbs down. This is an absolutely outstanding rendition and performance.
That moment when you realize you found this acoustic cover after 10 years as the best one you ever heared in your whole life. Greetings and much love from germany
You have an uncanny ability to get to the musical heart of a song, and tease out the real beauty behind the melodies. Makes me wish you would do a cover of 'Take Me Home, Country Roads'.
I have never heard anyone sing and play this song as perfect as y'all just did. Freaking amazing! You guys sounded exactly like Simon and Garfunkel. FREAKING AMAZING, thank you, it was PURRFECT!
Almost all of their covers are as good or better than the originals, it's amazing. For example, ToTo - Africa was better than the original, and dare I say Space Oddity by David Bowie...
Your covers are honestly my favourite on TH-cam, you manage to make the songs just as equally as beautiful as the originals, but still your own. So much respect for you as a musician :)
The tiny differences to the original song give this rendition new life. Nothing wrong with the original, it is just that heating it repeated thousands of times over through the years makes it become sort of invisible.
I would not have thought it possible to cover that song in a matter that does the original justice. You just proved me wrong. That was simply amazing to listen to.
Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share And no one dared Disturb the sound of silence "Fools, " said I, "You do not know Silence, like a cancer, grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells, of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls And tenement halls" And whispered in the sounds of silence
I would argue that this IS THE BEST COVER of this song on youtube , This is done live so you actually nailed the tempo too , My God Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel are the only ones who can do it as good but my monet is on you guys
Only guys who have done the cover worthy of this song genius. I wish Paul and Art could hear this - they would be quite touched. On another note, Mike I wish you would perform theatres and stages - you have a following :)
This is just a haunting and beautiful cover ! What a shame that the music industry has chosen to promote garbage and image instead of the brilliance and talent of guys like this.
Hey These guys are great! It just goes to show there are great ones that Don't make it big as there's just so much room at the top everyone can't be there all at once. Music is about making as many people happy around us as we can possibly find, even if it's a handful of folks, it's a special gift to them.
I miss these days when Jeff and Mike played together, it was like magic. Jeff must be pissed because I haven't seen him do anything with Mike since he went on his own. It's a shame Jeff didn't move with you Mike or you didn't stay in Salt Lake with him.
+Brian Zaborowski I just did a gig with him tonight. :) People hire us for private gigs together all the time, all across the U.S. (and sometimes internationally). So while we don't gig together locally anymore, we still get to play together regularly.
These guys are mint . Hands down even the original song writers and musicians would say they are highly impressed. If you play music and tryed to play another musicians music you know it there are minute things thst sound off and these guys are as close as it gets to perfect
I agree, that was fantastic. I perform live as well, and I agree, the crowds at the pubs just don't like to applaud for some reason. Yet they come up after and say how awesome you were. Well Mike, you have some pipes and are very, very impressive.
Meu pai e minha mãe amam essa música, eles ouviam muito quando eu era criança. Telma você sabe onde eu consigo a letra desta música ????? porque eu quero tentar traduzir!!! Obrigada querida!!!

I didn't see Dallas on the upcoming concert list; any plans to do so in the future?
Mr. Mike, very good. It is in my play list. Would like to know if you play a Dreamline from Rush?
All the great ones started at a small joint somewhere. But you're right of course Mike
Your my idol
tour in Germany :-) ?
Heartbreaking that so many people perform this beautiful song without the vocal counterpoint. These guys nailed it, best cover I've found.
Mike's getting a lot of love, which he deserves, but I thought Jeff killed it in this cover. His harmony is spot-on.
I like Mike, but I come to this channel mostly for Jeff :v
Jeff hall is a beast love his style.
Honestly it was perfect. An amazing duo!
His low backing vocals are awesome in this one.
His (Paul's) part is quite hard, but he nails it anyway.
Jeff Hall belongs in the TH-cam Music Hall of Fame. So underrated.
Mike Massé too
the musision
Beautiful harmonies Jeff, you don't get enough credit for all these tunes. Your bass and vocals are always bang on
I'm on a Mike Masse binge. I'm so glad I stumbled upon you. I love the song Africa and searched for covers and as I said before, I'm on a Mike Masse binge!
Jeff's backing vocals are fantastically tight yet again. In many ways doing the backing harmony is the more difficult part, but he nails it!
Right on, singing harmony is a skill coz not all singers can sing harmony.
Unless you've tried singing them, most people have no idea just how difficult it is to sing harmonies. Jeff is a fucking boss
Agreed. And it's also literally true, in terms of his day job as a prosecutor. :)
Some people can just do it all! Go Jeff! Also, great to see you interacting with the fans Mike you're a freakish talent :)
Add he does a little bass line at about 1:30 that sound very similar to some Pink Floyd...was that a little nod to PF? :)
Morten Jensen Maybe it's what they want. Not everyone is in it to make money. Some just want to play music.
***** keep it on .. for the love .. fuck their money bros
Brian Adams Too true
If you're not singing about sex, drugs and money (self indulgence), your music means nothing when it comes to being "popular". That's all they play on the radio. Atleast where I live. These guys are RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. Pure voices, beautiful harmonies, fantastic musicianship. Would love to see them play someday.
One of my favorite hippy songs...brings me back..
Mike Masse and Jeff Hall are the new Simon and garfunkel. Man Its good to hear people who cover a song with passion
listening in 2021. its incredible how they bring the feel of the original, the passion, the sound, the style. simply fantastic
You 2 are actually equal among the greatest musicians in the world❤Let none tell you otherwise
I'm sad that it's taken me this long to find the amazing music of Mike Masse and Jeff Hall. Such gifted musicians and singers. Just a perfect rendition of a classic. Bravo.
that bass comes in so heavy... love it
Yeah; I loved it. Listening to this song when it was new, I focused on the bass line a lot. This is quite good.
Jeff the bassist has the voice of an angel
Here in 2024 because someone posted him on Reddit this morning. This dude is beyond talented and just hope to see him love now.
Same! Making my way through some songs right now!
@@poochiew.9302their cover of Africa is actually my favorite version of that song.
The only duo I know that consistently does it better than the original pair.
better? na
It's better to keep your mouth shut and let everyone think you're an idiot, than to open it and dispel all doubt. Mark Twain

Yup, it made me drop several tears. 🥲
I hope that pizza joint has room to accommodate about 1.5 million new fans.
they're quite expanding
would def rush there after corona
Perfect voices! I know this video was recorded a long time ago. But i Always linten to it. Congratulations on the beautiful work! a hug from your fans in Brazil!
I'm mesmerized by Jeff's bass playing…..well done!
I’ve watched/listened to literally thousands of cover songs here on TH-cam,,, and this was no doubt one of the very best!! AWESOME JOB!!!
try the one by disturbed...automatic goosebumps :).
I just came in and yeah, I agree with Wallace, this is mindblowing!
If you’re reading this, Mike, you and Jeff absolutely nail these songs...awesome vocals and tasteful musicianship. In another era, you would have been massive. Thanks for doing what you do, Sir!

Not often am I captured as I am right now, the pure energy in this 👏🏼 amazing, I would love to duet 🎤
Mike’s emotion puts this already perfectly performed song over the top! So amazing!
That moment when you realize you found this acoustic cover after 10 years as the best one you ever heared in your whole life. Greetings and much love from germany
One of the greatest compositions of all time; a brilliant work of art. And a worthy cover.
This is so good I got goosebumbs! Good job, wow!
In Finland we say chickenskin.
Thanks for watching and commenting, Farm Girl. 👍
Me too!!
@@mikemasse absolutely love you xxxx
Beautiful!! Fantastic!.. very well done
Best version ever! Took me two days to finally find this. So soothing. ❤
World class talent in a pizza place...as always, well done gentlemen.
I never heard of these guys until five minutes ago and they're great!
You have an uncanny ability to get to the musical heart of a song, and tease out the real beauty behind the melodies. Makes me wish you would do a cover of 'Take Me Home, Country Roads'.
Like that song 🎵
and the sign flashed out it's warning
in the words that it was forming
and the sign said:
"Pie Pizza"
keep off the meth
Aleksi Roope
Thanks for the laugh! ;)
FUCK, haven’t seen your profile picture in a while. Granted this comment is two years old. I always recognize it and look for more.
I love it 😂😂😂
I have never heard anyone sing and play this song as perfect as y'all just did. Freaking amazing! You guys sounded exactly like Simon and Garfunkel. FREAKING AMAZING, thank you, it was PURRFECT!
Jesus. Im broken... thankyou mike... you opened up my emotions id forgotten about
That deserved a WAY BETTER round of applause! awesome!
to be honest this cover is just as good as the original
Almost all of their covers are as good or better than the originals, it's amazing. For example, ToTo - Africa was better than the original, and dare I say Space Oddity by David Bowie...
Joseph Hudson iTS A VERY GOOD COVER, but no better than toto. Now it sounds good because is almost acappella and they have great voices too :)
Joseph Hudson These were my exact thoughts. Pure talent right here.
That harmony tho!!! Spot on !!!
Wonderful!
It's also nice to see another Lefty that plays the guitar right-handed.
Omg this is beautiful ,the talent is off the scale
Your covers are honestly my favourite on TH-cam, you manage to make the songs just as equally as beautiful as the originals, but still your own. So much respect for you as a musician :)
Are you Demi Lovato?
That is magical... So little people can really apreciate real music. Good thing we have TH-cam so more People can hear it. ❤️❤️
Jeff is amazing. You guys together were the best cover duo that has ever existed. Love to both!
The tiny differences to the original song give this rendition new life. Nothing wrong with the original, it is just that heating it repeated thousands of times over through the years makes it become sort of invisible.
This song video makes me SOOOO HAPPY!!! 💖💖💖 I LOVE YOU BOTH
LOVE FROM THE PHILIPPINES

Perfect! Nailed it!!!
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
"Fools, " said I, "You do not know
Silence, like a cancer, grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells, of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sounds of silence
Awesome awesome awesome 👍

It's an absolutely beautiful, haunting, spellbinding song isn't it?! And performed to perfection here by Jeff and Mike! So Well Done Lads!
Phenomenal performance. Just discovered this incredible guy and love his song choices.
Am I going too far when I say that this guy can sing the song better than the original composer?
No. I'm inclined to agree with you. I love the moment when Jeff's bass guitar kicks in.
wow!!...ghosh bump🥰❤🙌 very niced music i ever heard
Jeff's harmony is STUNNING in this one!!
