  • Latex sealant in your tubeless bicycle tire is a wonderful thing, but after a while, it dries up and makes quite a mess. Is removal even necessary? I think at least where the bead contacts the rim it might be good to have a fresh start when remounting. Comments are appreciated!
(Sealant being removed in this video is Orange Seal regular)

Thanks for the comment and good luck. I found that the rubber “eraser” can get a bit dirty with use, thus limiting it’s effectiveness. Amusingly, you clean it with sandpaper! (but you knew that)

Thank you but I've done it several times (so far) and simply turned the tire inside out and let the sun beat on it for about 10 mins. This will dry up most moisture. I pull the large sections of sealant off with my finger. Then I use a rough rag and keep scraping it off (while flat on the ground). Then I'll pull the tire in circles while I squeeze the bead with rag. This removes it all nicely. NOTE: I use Orange Seal Endurance.

Good info, thank you! I am using Orange Seal Endurance now; I’ll be curious to see how it cleans up.

    Looks like a solid solution.
I've got 2 trees that need attention.
    Cheers

I gave up, I just keep toping it up until the tyre is solid

Peoples don't realise this can make small balls of dried sealant and make your tires looks like wavy when the wheel roll , this small balls disturb the right placement of the tire on the rim 😉

Great comment. Also, if tire goes unused for too long and stays in same position, sealant will dry up in one spot, causing a substantial imbalance. So ride your bike!!😀

I run tubes and don’t have to do all that mess.

To each his own; the pros and cons of tubeless are well documented. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@phillippitts6294 That’s a lot of surface area! I found that if the natural rubber starts turning black from the tire, it is not as effective. Try cleaning it with sandpaper periodically.

Another reason not to use tubeless tires.

Noted, but this is optional if you wanted to start fresh, or if you were planning to sell the tires. Last time I moved tires to a different wheel, I just left all the old sealant and it was fine. Lately I have been trying TPU tubes, possibly the best of both worlds.
