From the perspective of the Norman mound there is or was a path along the top of far side of the adjacent 'deep' valley, is this that path? If so wow a lot of trees have gone from there since I was a kid. At that time the bottom of that 'deep' valley was riddled with Giant Hogweed

Sorry William we are quite a distance from the old Norman mound that is beside the main car park in Belvoir forest. This old oak and the others alongside are at the back of the community centre and theatre opposite the primary school. The hogweed is still there round the wee stream near the mound. Best wishes from Belfast Northern Ireland.

@@TomMcClean Cheers, that's probably good then, I thought something had happened to the forest. If memory serves me there was a Miss McClean at Belvoir Pk Primary along with Miss McClain or McClane, Mrs Walker, Mr Thompson, Mr Stevenson (HM) and Mrs Lea?cock in the 60's, I can't remember any names.

You have a good memory William. I don't know any of these folks. I taught RE up in the big school Newtownbreda HS from 1974 onwards for 30 years though. The forest suffered Dutch elm disease a number of years back. this had a devasstating effect many trees had to be cut down. It has made a slow but steady recovery to almost back to normal now. Best wishes

Hi again Anemore. I always love to hear where folks are from so thanks for that. I remember being 15 all those years ago and spending the summer selling ice-cream on the esplanade out in a kiosk at the front of local magistrate Kings restaurant.

@@TomMcClean Me too. A spin-off of having a TH-cam 'channel' is that I get to have nice conversations with people such as yourself from different parts of the world where things are a bit different than in Dorset. Good luck in all your endeavors.

Can someone save some acorns to grow trees for the future from this one? Also, somebody needs to take some decent photographs of it. it's beautiful in more ways than one.

I don't see why the acorns couldn't be saved Sheila. What a good idea! And agreed about the photos. Thanks for dropping by. Best wishes from Belfast

There was a very old 'historic' tree on a nearby college campus that had to be cut down after it was badly damaged. But someone decided it would be a good idea to save some seeds.

I love touching an old tree and thinking of the history that has passed during their lives.
