Just like David Lee Roth did, he developed a much more raspy voice by 1990, and I really believe that this was when they found polyps on his voice box, he had them removed and this is why DLR has lost his bass tone in his voice, and his signature scream, that was made from his raspy voice. Doctors always tell rock singers, “ if you have this surgery, there is a big chance that you won’t sound the same”. If Robert kept singing “Black Dog”, for instance, he would have been in for surgery long ago. I am a vocalist, I’ve won prizes for actually singing “Black Dog”, so I know how the voice is. I used to sing “Whole Lotta Love” and “Rock n Roll” all the time too, very stressful for the voice. Robert has kept his voice pretty damn good for what he has put it through, fans have to appreciate it as he ages.
