More of the finding Gold? Awesome! That's how i first found you guys, i have told a dozen people to watch your stuff on gold and gemstones and the gemstone cutting. When i hadn't seen anything new on here in awhile and ebay went to just stickers i was worried something had happened and there wouldn't be any new stuff. Glad to see you are back and looking for some new gold and gemstone stuff.
Matt, I grew up around wooden-hulled Boston Whalers, in the Finger Lakes area of upstate NY. They are a quality manufacture! Glad to see you rigged for action. Heavy Pans, LD
Glad to see your back on the water! I have been following your channel for a while now. I live in Cape Coral, and share your passion for Florida's water. Looking forward to learning more from you.
Hi, I came to your channel doing research about the Boston Whaler Dauntless. I came upon a Dauntless 14’ in Costa Rica. It has a recent 60 Hp 4-Stroke Mercury. My current model is a Sport 11’ that I found at a dealership and had to restore it to his actual glory. I put my dad’s 1969 Chrysler 20 Hp that I kept conserved in the garage all these years! It still rides strong with two people! However, this last weekend on Lake Arenal -some 3 hours away from home- I took my two sons and a friend and the motor seemed taxed… We’ll see what he wants for his Dauntless, as the advertisement is in either Costarican Colons which seems too low or US$ 18,000 which is out of my league! Albeit, the trailer which seems original, is on the cheap side and has no fenders, the axle is way to the front. Mine is better!
The 14' is even more liked than my 13' - it's stand up friendly while piloting - mine, not so much - the console and seat aren't as tall. You can pilot the 14' either way. I realize you don't have it quite yet but if you do, it'll be a great boat for you.
@@mattmattsongoldIndeed, I don't have it quite yet and it sold for US$18,000 with the 60 HP 4 stroke Mercury and trailer! I will have more time to save more and perhaps bring it from FL to Costa Rica. Take care and thanks for your input! Warm Regards, Robert
Are you or is there any carp or barbel fish to be caught in your area or must you go to Italy for that. Like to know .And the storms you guy is getting lately is out of this world.
Frank Lowe Frank, we have a "grass" carp that grows to around 75 pounds and a world of catfish, saltwater drum (that have barbels). The carp in Fl are catch and release since they eat the invasive plants for us (everyone dumps their unwanted fish, grasses, boa's, anacondas etc., in the wild). The game commission lists the meat as very good, but boney.
Can't wait for u to start. Here in south africa the simmer is just starting caravan and fishing tackle is being checked my first trip starts from 8-10 Aug keep well.PS 75 lbs here we will shoot it not catch it.
You say 30 is the bear minimum to get on plane with just yourself. Looking at one with a new 4 stroke 40 Merc but I’m concerned I wouldn’t be able to plane with 3 or 4 people, what is your opinion?
40 is perfect - what it should have and will do the job well. 30 is a little light but still planes it if you have your load right (heavyweights up front). Some try to power these with 20 - just not enough. Have fun with your Whaler if you get it. Great boats!
One of the most useful boats ever made and one of the top 5 purchases I ever made. Changing the oil & lower unit oil on ours today and putting in the water tomorrow. Getting it ready for striper fishing - best of luck with yours!
Matt Mattson Just wondering, how much do you think a 1996 dauntless 13 is worth with a brand new Yamaha 40hp? I’m looking to buy one and there’s one for sale on Craigslist near me. Thanks!
@@ryanmcconnaughey4215 : I've seen hulls only on a trailer for $3500 & with the old motors $5500 so add a new engine to that (depends on what it is (trim tilt etc.) $4500 + install and you're at $10 in my mind. If you're buying one that is in good shape (trailer too) you'll be happy with it. Good luck!
Hi Matt. Please take a moment and let me know if your swim platform came with the boat, or did you install yourself? Is your swim platform through hull bolted?
:----- Rod, to the left is the platform the top dot is the grab rail, the bottom dot is the lip of the platform for mounting. 5 wood screws there, the mating surfaces are all glassed in. Since Whaler did this, there must be a wood insert in that panel (I would think). You'll know when you drill - no wood, glass it extremely good and go light on tightening the screws (I'd glass over them too). Good luck!!!
Stephanie: I used an automatic (Sahara S-500) bilge pump that greatly reduced space required. You'll have to work it in there as you know it's a really tight fit. Sorry for the late reply but took awhile to get to the boat.
+pj carusi : no, we are very happy with it, but you can find these with older engines very inexpensively and do exactly what we did. Just type 13 Boston Whaler Dauntless for sale into your search and see what pops out. Good luck!
Hey there Matt I'm new to prospecting and would very much like to learn more about gold n Gems. Is there any way I could contract you through email got some questions I'd love answers to n am lost in my pursuits but i am sick with the fever!
The series I put together on youtube: Finding Gold will take you through all the stages of beginner to finished prospector (heavy commercial mining is something else) for both gemstones and gold - watch as many as you can and everything else you can too and figure out what your budget is, and what equipment makes sense in your area (and only buy that). Email: flagold@gate.net- very best of luck out there!
For two old folks that spend 90% of their time trolling, yes. 5100 rpm = 23 knots (25 mph). A 40 (what it was designed for) better of course, will do 40 mph with that. I have seen everything from 25 to 70 on them.
@@mattmattsongold Thanks for answering. Understood. Where I live we have a bay (Baía do Mussulo - Luanda, Angola) and trolling is practiced a lot. But the Fishing spots are sometimes far from each other, and there is a very strong current. So I believe that a 40 or even 50 would be the Ideal here. Greetings and continue to enjoy this treasure you have.
@@hugomachado1397 : Thanks Hugo - and agree, in your situation go with the standard 40 (it's plenty on that boat). A couple other things I forgot about the 30 - largest engine that still has a pull starter & magneto start, is lighter of course (it and the 25 are the same engine block) so it doesn't squat as much (important to us as it is shallow here). If you've got long runs - you wouldn't be happy with the 30 though. Not enough motor for that. Good luck out there fishing!
Matt Mattson I have a brand new 60hp 4-stroke merc on my 1998 dauntless 13, but I don’t experience overpower. It’s really necessary to take the boat planing with 4 passengers and their stuff, or for wake boarding. Sometimes I even wish I had maybe 75hp or so.....
Everything is a trade off. Having had both, I much preferred this as a tender, since we can't always choose the water we are in (others seem to agree, as we saw roughly 3 of these for every classic style on the bows of yachts, etc. with much lower production numbers). The classic is still classic - no doubt. Known for its stability, ease of beaching, overall utility. These are much easier on the back, don't give that pounding ride in anything but dead smooth water, takes a corner without a chine digging in and trying to throw you, has more freeboard if you're ever caught out. In our new situation we're in 90 feet of water within a 1/4 mile of the house. All a matter of what you need. Liked that hovercraft!

Is the max 50hp of this boat?
Yes - on the data plate. I've seen them with 60 - but 40 is plenty and the most often seen combination.

23 with a 30, 44 with a 40, reportedly 52 with a 50. The 40 is the standard engine for this model and the way I ran it for many years.

The old Boston Whaler 13 much better boat., a 13-foot boat is too small for deep water anyway it doesn't need that vee hull.
