  • The residence was built on the order of Prince Miloš Obrenović, for the residence of his family, i.e. Princess Ljubica and sons Milan and Mihailo. It was built in the period between 1829 and 1831, and it was designed and supervised by the famous builder Hadži Nikola Živković.
At the time it was built, the residence was one of the most representative city houses, which it remains to this day. The building consists of a basement, ground floor and first floor, while in 1836 an amam was added, as well as some side rooms.
Prince Milos, however, only occasionally stayed in this building, while this was not the case with his sons. Milan died in the residence, and Mihailo lived here during his first reign. Certain sources also state that during the first reign of Prince Milos, the money of the Main State Treasury was kept in the basement of the residence. The residence of Princess Ljubica ceased to be a residence when Aleksandar Karadjordjevic came to the Serbian throne in 1842. That year, Princess Ljubica was forcibly evicted from her home and the Obrenovics left Belgrade. Since then, this building no longer had the function for which it was built, that is, it was never a court again.
The residence was opened to the public as a memorial museum in 1980, which is its current function. The permanent exhibition of the museum is the interiors of Belgrade bourgeois houses of the 19th century, i.e. original furniture of the Oriental-Balkan style, as well as other styles with the influence of Central and Western Europe of that time. In the basement of this building, which is called the Hall under the Vaults, thematic exhibitions, lectures and other events are organized today.
