Nothing will ever convince me that SMG was not blatantly robbed of an Emmy for The Body.

That moment when Buffy shouts to Giles, "We not supposed to move the body!" - The realization on her face of that cold, harsh truth that her mother was actually gone is heartbreaking. SMG, oh my gosh, what a phenomenal performance.

@@BeingMikeHdefinitely. She’s just such an incredible actress, I really think the fact that she started with soap operas so young give her that dramatic edge. The woman can welter her eyes with tears like no other. 😂

ikr? I have always assumed that the people who decide those awards privately closed ranks and just outright refused to even consider a show with magic and vampires...despite the fact that the entire cast and crew outperformed the entirety of Hollywood and made everyone else look like they were just phoning it in

One of the most beautiful and impactful pieces of television ever, in my opinion. The opening scene where SMG does that extremely long take (and had to do it repeatedly until it was "perfect"), Willow freaking out about what to wear, Xander wanting to blame someone, Anya's monologue in the dorm room about how its stupid that Joyce can't just get back into her body 😢 This episode always felt some kind of way, but after experiencing the loss of my brother, stepsister and stepmom, and then my Dad (as well as numerous friends from highschool and my 20s), it just hits so much harder. SMG and Alyson Hannigan are such amazing actors. There's simething about Alyson's crying that i relate to so much, and Sarah's makes me feel so horrible for and just want to try and nurture the character. Agh😢

The entire cast just kills it in this episode especially SMG. How she didn’t win an Emmy is beyond me.

Anya, who granted wishes for 1000 years, wishes that Joyce didn't die. Love her.

"I wish Joyce didn't die" isn't just Anya being chirpy. "Wish" is the most powerful word she knows, and she was not expecting it to sound so hollow.

My mother died in a pretty similar way in 2019. My life changed a lot since then but by watching a lot of reactions, I've decided to put Buffy as my new #1 favorite show of all time. My mom and I used to watch a lot of stuff together, we had a great bond. We actually even watched Buffy together back when it aired. That was when I was still living with my parents. In my teens, still going to school and stuff of course.
Sure, I miss her but I realized since her death that a HUGE part of her actually gets to live on in me. I inherited a lot of her personality and her love.

The most human and truthful series to ever air. I have never seen the subject of grief so well done.

Still the hardest hour of tv I've ever seen. And how SMG didn't get an award for this performance I will never understand.

Oh great, you kept the dog in 🥹😍
That was the cutest thing I saw last year. Cass starts crying, the dog notices and immediately goes to check if she's okay.
Fyi: Cass quickly told her dog "It's okay..."
    I loved that moment.

The episode was hard enough to get through when I saw it 2001, same with the reactions, but my youngest nephew died earlier this month, exactly one month after his 25th birthday, which makes it harder to watch this right now.

Geeked Out Nation reaction was good too. He isn’t as expressive, but he when through something similar to Dawn at her age so you can tell he was going through it. Sophie’s reaction to seeing Joyce at the end of the previous episode was very shocking too.

I totally understand Dawn's need to see and even touch Joyce's body. My dad's death didn't feel real to me until I saw his body and touched his hand, I just needed that tangible proof to fully accept that he was gone.

Anya has likely killed more people than Angel and Spike combined (even accounting for age) but she also had the power to bring people back from the dead like the Master. So of course life and death meant nothing to someone who could warp reality with a couple of words

The willow / Tara kiss wasn’t disrespectful. It was the epitome of normal love.

    • @coffeeveins

The first onscreen kiss being this episode wasn’t an accident. While they were a few years past the point of shows being canceled due to advertisers fearing boycotts, the standard practice by networks at the time was to promote the hell out of a first kiss episode as a “very special episode”. A lot of the writers didn’t like the fact that the practice tended to send a message (whether intentionally or not) that that type of affection wasn’t normal like the dozens of straight romances shown on tv on any given day. So they put it in “The Body”, practically daring the network to just try and promote THAT episode as the “Gay Kiss” episode. Once the first time shown was out of the way, they could hardly try it for a second kiss, so the opportunity was gone.

One of the things that was so emotional was the lack of backing music in this episode.
Willow needed the connection of the kiss from Tara.
