    Tony Trabert opened up to Andras Ruszanov, the tennis historian-analyst (www.db4tennis.com) about his mentors and toughest rivals, his attitude how became one of the 3 US players in history who won the Channel Slam in the same year, and some other untold stories about his career.
    Marion Anthony Trabert (August 16, 1930 - February 3, 2021) was an American amateur world No. 1 tennis champion and long-time tennis author, TV commentator, instructor, and motivational speaker.
    Trabert was the No. 1 ranked amateur player in the world in 1953 and 1955, and the winner of ten Grand Slam titles - five in singles and five in doubles. He won two French singles championships, two U.S. National Men's Singles Championships, and one Wimbledon Gentlemen's Singles championship.

    Great athlete, fast, quick, and strong. His commentary at the US Open was always incisive and very funny. RIP, TT...

    Great interview, thank you Mr. Ruszanov. Trabert himself did several years of US open commentary and of course conducted many interviews, but to me he's an even better as the one being interviewed. Very candid. Modest. Personable. Glad you had a chance to do that.

    Tony is my favorite announcer - a quick witted gentleman - his pairings with Pat Summerall and Newk are legendary.

    My Uncle Tony ❤️ I Miss him .. it’s funny the first guy mispronounced our last name,that’s exactly how they say it me too

      I didn't either. I was watching the U.S. Open final from 1974. He and Pat Summerall were doing the commentary. I was curious to see how old Tony was--and I saw that he has passed away two months ago.
