The women represent her friends telling her him not to bother. It's also common in the UK to be out in the club and see your ex. You know how awkward it can be

To me.. he had the love of his life & they broke up. He wants her back, but everyone in their life’s tell them to move on. So he’s saying for right now I need someone else just to feel alive. I’d like to get back with the love of my life, but forces are keeping up apart.
My guess for the video, when the people stopped him from going back, it's like he tries to go back to the girl just to make up, but there are these people telling him it's over and move on but he can't and so the girl continues to walk away, just to forget about him ig?? I could be wrong, just my theory

The issue is that person is dead and him trying to go back to her is actually him thinking about suicide And the people represent the persons that try to help him accept it by being there for him and preventing him from looking back, but at the end of the day, just as we see at the end of the song, he's all alone, looking back but completely powerless, because he could walk to her (and end his life) but he doesn't do it, he just thinks about the past, sad and lone.
