  • I've been promising, and today we are Finally testing out the new Lapua brass in the 6.5 PRC. Let's see if it groups any better than the many times reloaded Hornady brass.

    Thanks Halfmile! Sorry that I missed the premier I was distracted for some reason. I missed WTW as well. I'm sure looking forward to some video on the longer range stuff.

      No problem there Cervus...we'll reach out a little further in the next video. We'll also learn that it is bad to forget your "big" camera when traveling to a match, lol.

    Awesome thanks for sharing. Looking forward to next video.
    I bet with the brand new brass and if you slightly redo your ladder only shooting new brass you can at least half that group size.
    Thanks for taking us along on the journey it really makes me want to invest the $ and get back into the game.

      Considering that fact I had been on the range since 0700 the day this one was filmed, and had been competing all day I am not that disappointed in the group. But yes, I think a little tweak of teh load and this will be pretty good. Now I have to put some rounds together with the Berger 144 grain Hybrids I found.

    this could be good..I have 100 pcs of this brass in my cart. been using ADG for awhile but need new barrel soon so might switch brass. the lapua is a wee bit cost friendly lol

      I had been watching prices like a hawk...because I wasn't wanting to pay $2 a piece...found them on sale at Scheel's online for $1.40 a piece and decided to jump. If this brass lasts as long as the once fired Hornady did for me I will be way ahead.

    Was almost disappointed lol. Thought there might not be comments about the wobbly table or heavy breathing 😂. New brass is looking good. Does it seem to do best after about the third resizing/loading? Stretching helps my knees in the mornings to help performance lol. ES & SD look close. 🎯👍👊

    • @Halfmilesniper
      @Halfmilesniper  หลายเดือนก่อน

      LOL, it does take a couple days to get used to the altitude...as I get older it seems to take a little longer. I will say this about shooting at altitude, it will sure teach you to breathe for every shot. I thought the brass did well for being loaded straight out of the box...I didn't do anything to it other than prime, charge and stuff a bullet in the mouth. I think they'll do just fine once the settle into the chamber on my rifle.

    • @billdye3530
      @billdye3530 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Halfmilesniper Wasn't sure if brass is like a new pair of boots. Gets better after it's stretched into shape. Sorta like a good leather holster needs a little break-in to be smoother working. Table only wobbles after projectile is about 2,900ft downrange 😂.

      @@billdye3530 Quite a few have said the brass shoots better after a couple loadings. I'm just hoping I can get as long a life out of the new brass as I did the Hornady brass.

    I wish alpha would do prc…I’ve done 300 of there .308s and rank em 2nd behind lapua..got 100 lapua like you eventually and found out why there the best…have 110gr .308 v max in lapua in my 20rd ar-10 dd5v3 and they all will touch at 100..also use 168a max..eldm..and over 10 more I’ve dialed in my fn spr and that ar-10..way out here in eastern Ky…✌🏻matt

      In my .308 AR10 I run the Lake City Brass. It's made for "machine guns " and the brass hold up better in the auto loader. My bolt gun .308 I'll run anything but steel case, lol. I have a lifetime supply of Hornady TAP Brass from our sniper team so I pretty much just run that in my bolt gun. Now we'll see how well this expensive Lapua Brass holds up.

      Yeah, I’d buy a bunch of alpha brass if they came out with either 6.5 or 300 PRC. I like Lapua for sure but Alpha seems like even higher quality. As it is I’ve been using Peterson for 6.5 PRC and it’s pretty good.

    I got me some SRP Lapua brass for my 6.5crd over the spring and with their first firings they developed a donut already 😢 their second firing gave me a bunch of smokey necks and not soo good groups, gonna do some research see what neck turning tool I can get my hands on and turn those donuts or try and find a drill bit that will engage the donut with a layer of tape to protect the rest of the neck, I'm already 20thou off the lands and single feeding so not much room left for longer seating

    • @Halfmilesniper
      @Halfmilesniper  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not sure how best to correct that. What length are you trimming to? You could also try the 6.5 neck mandrel die from Erik Cortina. I've never experienced that.

    • @wheelzandgillz
      @wheelzandgillz หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Halfmilesniper havent trimmed and don't plan on it just to stay away from the donut zone as far as seating depth goes, seen a video from Reloading Everyday why he doesn't trim his cases to prevent carbon ring, it made a lot of sense so I stopped trimming, Ill link here for you

      @@wheelzandgillz The problem with not trimming, depending on caliber/cartridge, is your brass can grow from stretching and soon you may not be able to close the bolt. Now, if you're only using your brass for 2 or 3 loadings, well that may not be an issue. I learned that lesson loading .270...I was on my 3rd loading IIRC and went to the range and I couldn't close the bolt on a single round, that's when I learned about trimming brass.
