  • Hi and welcome to Micks Mowers
In this Video i make a start on a lawn mower that has been sitting in my shed for a while, it came in as the deck was rusted and needed fixing however it was too far gone and i was not able to fix it. so another fix was to replace the deck, lets watch and see how it goes...ho

Just replaced the deck on my 20 year old Izy and used this very informative video as reference. The deck on mine has needed replacing for the last 8 years, but I'd riveting patches on it and kept it going. It just collapsed in the middle this weekend so I had to finally get round to replacing it. The most awkward bit was fitting the spring into the body and the rear flap. Got an annoying rattle from the front axle that I can't get rid of either. Wasn't there before. Great video and a great help. Thank you.

i have stripped what I believe is a C3 Hizzy. Two q's please if you can help.
1.How did you get the grass box flap back on? Which way round does the spring go?
    2. I have changed the engine for one the same as your video (C1?). Will that type of speed lever fit my model which has a single throttle cable / auto carburretor system? as it does not seem as if the C3 carb plate etc fits the C1. Hope this makes sense. Many thanks. Keith

That was a lot of work, Mick. Looks decent. I wipe my decks with two coats of Nu Finish for a hard high shine. Plastics are buffed with Mothers Back to Black or automatic transmission fluid for other colors. That Honda engine is a bit worn and ting-ting-ringy. I'd put straight 30 or 40 in it.

How do you refit the sprung grass box guard. Ant tips. Beaten me. So far !
I have completed my deck replacement; almost. With the self propelled version (of my HRG415C3 SDE) you MUST refit the stripping strip before you fit the rear axle; otherwise it is rear wheels off. The other major tip is that the blade bolts and the motor bolts WILL be very stubborn to remove; hence Micks use of a impact gun ( I don't have one!).

I figured this out. For the benefit of your viewers. I made a small loop of string and fed it though the top of the guard. Assemble the cover with one side of the shaft fitted correctly. Press the shaft all the way until it is facing the hole on the other side. The string will need some pulling; I used a lever. Hold the guard pull the string until the spring is aligned with the slot, press in and push the shaft through the remaining hole for it. Hope this helps someone.

The new paint finish they use on the newer Izy mowers is completely different to the older models as it is in a dark grey with dimpled effect, which is similar to what mountfield used to put on their older mowers. They actually look a bit better as well. I think the older models didn't get enough paint hence why they rusted quicker than other steel deck mowers.
