Can you show us how to dehook a sting ray? I never try ocean fishing and want to try it someday. Do you need an ocean fishing license to fish at Santa monica pier?
I can try to get a video next time I get out there but I don’t go too often man. I just unhooked it the normal way I do with any other fish, these rays that we were catching didn’t have a stinger so I didn’t have to worry about that. No you do not need a license to fish on the pier from my understanding!

Some people do but there isn't A lot of meat on them so its wasteful to keep the small ones
