    It's the above-view at 6:34 that really shows what a beautiful specimen that rainbow is. Congratulations from this Boulder-bred boy. I may've caught a RB in Boulder that long, but not one that nice. Very happy for you!

      It was such a cool fish. So tall. Always a nice surprise when a big one comes out of there.

    Just a great fishing video in general. Prob best one I've seen on TH-cam. Great job! Also thanks for not playing lousy music in the background like 99% of TH-cam vids.

    I’ve fished SBC for years and have never seen a rainbow anywhere close to that size. Great job man!
    Based on the coloration of the fish and the fact I don’t recognize the precise spot (I spend most of my time on the tail water below Gross Res), I’m thinking this is an escapee from the private fishing club on SBC above Pinecliffe.

      For sure could be. Its a sweet fishery with some nice surprises mixed.in for sure.

    Great catch, love it when you have to get in the water to land them.

    Beautiful fish! That's funny, I caught a 19-20" rainbow that same day by the train tracks at Pinecliffe. Biggest trout I ever caught and it was on a barbless parachute adams. The big guys were active that day. Mine wasn't nearly as fat as yours though! Great battle, I haven't gone past the second tunnel yet but that looks like some beautiful water. Tight lines!

      That’s awesome. The area is fun to fish knowing you always have a threat of a bigger fish.

    Love this video and have watched it easily 4-5 times. Every time I watch it I'm amazed how you managed to keep him hooked as he took you downstream - nicely done!! BTW do you have any recollection what you caught him on and the size tippet you were using? I'm usually using 6x on SBC and this fatty would have broken me off for sure! Keep the videos coming as I love your stuff and am in CO too near a lot of the water you fish.

    • @TheRustedTrout
      @TheRustedTrout  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a crazy moment. With steven hooking my shirt as I went past him and flow being up a little bit I was pretty shocked we were able to land him. It was 4x tippet and most likely on either a two bit hooker or pheasant tail. thanks for watching. Been having a good time putting them up.

  • @FlickyFlies

    Surprised you guys landed him after all that! Crazy! Nice dude! That's a tall fish, WOW!

    • @TheRustedTrout
      @TheRustedTrout  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too man. It was kind of a cluster and if he got downstream from where we netted him, we would've had no chance. Tallest bow I've ever caught for sure.

      TheRustyTrout the largest I’ve ever caught out of SBC might be 14 inches. 21+ is basically a different species of fish. Very cool.

    Impressive! I've never caught rainbow at Boulder Creek, nor plucked any fish that hefty from it either! Good to know there are some chonky bows hiding out when I venture next time.

    What a fish man! and really good job beeing able to hold on to it!!
    In my opinion you should have kept that fish in the water after that fight at least for a while, just to get her to breathe, imagine being on a fight for 5 minutes and after loosing it, getting submerged underwater unable to breathe. Just a little advice from another fish lover.

    nice one! I've topped out at 18-19" in Walker ranch (browns) but once got an escapee from Lincoln Hills at Pinecliffe that was over 22"-- but was missing one eye and was steel blue. Your fish looked great.

    • @TheRustedTrout
      @TheRustedTrout  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. It was a sweet surprise for sure. Having the threat of big fish in south boulder makes the area even better. I don’t think I’ve gotten a brown that big out of south boulder yet.

  • @fishtacos89

    What the hell. Buddy you might have caught the biggest bow in there. Ive never seen anything close to that in those waters. But then again your a much better fly fisherman than i am. Beautiful fish, congrats.

    just curious, what kind of ring were you running? nymphs?

    • @TheRustedTrout
      @TheRustedTrout  ปีที่แล้ว

      Chubby with two trail nymphs. That's my go to start almost always

    • @25falcons
      @25falcons ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheRustedTrout got it! what are trail nymphs? and im assuming the nymphs will be a few inches from each other down the line?

    • @TheRustedTrout
      @TheRustedTrout  ปีที่แล้ว

      Trail nymphs can be any nymph pattern. I usually have some kind of stone fly or pheasant tail followed by something smaller. Spacing wise, I'm usually chubby then 3 foot ish to the first nymph and then maybe another foot to the second nymph. Can be longer or shorter depending on the river and the time of year.

    How close were you to Lincoln Hills Fishing Club?

    • @TheRustedTrout
      @TheRustedTrout  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A decent ways down. The club is between rollinsville and pinecliffe. We were downstream closer to the reservoir than rollinsville. Entirely possible that the fish started up there though.

    • @Deenihan18
      @Deenihan18 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheRustedTrout Was certainly a beautiful, very healthy, and massive Rainbow. Lincoln Hills obviously stocks, but their fish don't have the typical "stocker" deformities- chewed up fins, short pushed in jaw, minimal color. Either way congratulations man, I'm thinking of trying to fish just above Lincoln Hills next week. Keep the videos coming.

    • @TheRustedTrout

      @martinhodell8465 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Deenihan18 I don't know....I've caught some huge rainbows from SBC below the club that were clearly deformed, one-eye blinded, etc. Maybe the club has changed their practices, but it's kind of bummer to see obvious signs like that.
