Ok i have to ask… n this is a behind-the-scene technical question:
Do the vtubers design their own models? Or do they choose from a pre-designed? Or are the models given to them?
Coz holy crap (and i guess this is true for most of hololive vtubers) their physical manifestation is pretty much an imagery of their personality.
Raora is, to put it short, fluffy. Her raspy airy voice + giggly and squeally nature goes so well together with that massive fluffy pink hair of hers.
from what i know their avatar are cater to match there voices and irl aura(person's character) of course the vtuber lore is added in making the avatar . the talent have a little leeway in tweaking there avatar , pretty much like a suggestion to the artist(there avatar's mama) but the theme and lore are decided by the company . but the premise is that they are just being themself while working/streaming with vtuber model which is pretty much cater to them personally. thats why some of the talent audition many time before they are accepted because at that moment they're not the talent/voices/personality that they are looking for .
Depends on the company, mostly. In some companies the avatar is done first (which is a long, pricey process) then a voice that matches is picked. In others the talent is picked first and then the avatar is made using the talent's input.
In the case of Holo, Raden has talked a bit about her case, saying that most of the design was already done by the time she was hired, but that she had the chance to give suggestions for the final design.
The process of making the avatar is not something I know much about, other than there being roughly 2 parts to it: Creation of the assets and rigging of the assets. I suggest you look for info on that if you're interested.
for me personally,I think
1. company commission few character design before hiring the talent. from here not all commission will get chosen to become Vtuber officially (back then there are 2 design that never become reality till this day. we know it because this 2 design is posted on Hololive"X")
2. if the design get chosen,the artist is given a rough image about the talent irl(a photo probably) and then they do some adjustments to the avatar from it. there a funny clip about Raden character designer who say that her interpretation of Raden is so wrong after watching Raden stream/start yapping. lol
3. also sometimes the talent have a certain request for their avatar,again artist will make few adjutments based on that.
4. then we get the final product and Vtuber debut.
but there's a special cases like Suisei. she's originally an indie who insisting bringing her old avatar and got an ok. she design her avatar by herself,so the rights is on her not company. but cover hired some artist to"brush up"Suisei avatar. the brush up avatar rights.....I don't know.
based on Suisei case,Raora for an example, technically can design her own avatar but she probably chose not (because the designer is someone else)
@@FreyjaWion Even if she wanted to, it's likely in her best interest *not* to design the character. This time next year, she's going to be super busy with projects, but she's also going to be looking at alternate model costumes. If she's the primary artist, she will have to contract the task to someone else anyway, someone who might not be able to capture the artistic style of her original.
I used to think that the models were created around the talents they hired to resemble them in real life but I believe now its the other way around, they find talents to match the models they create. I'm far from an expert though so I'm probably completely wrong.
