I wasn't there to show what I know. I was there to see what they knew. I was very impressed with the overall skill level and knowledge of their students. Another thing that was super awesome was the lack of need to display the EGO by him or his students. This is a sign of a good organization. I would like to model myself after Philipp Bayer. Much respect to surely one of the top 3 Practitioners in the game right now.
Thanks for smashing those fake Wing Chun master/sifu, I really like the way you screwed "GM" Scamuel Kok. So fun to see fake WC getting smashed. I feel proud of WSLVT
@@PeachBran -- Wong Shun Leung - a student of Ip Man / Primary instructor for Bruce Lee. He had a number of students such as Man Kim Au Yeung, Gary Lam, Wan Kam Leung, Nino Bernardo, Chan Kim Man, Rolf Clausnitzer, and in this video Phillipp Bayer
Whenever I see Philip's structure and effectiveness of his elbow usage, it always feel me lucky and proud that I had a chance to learn Wing Tsun from one of his students. This practice should improve elbow centralization and reflexes, it is not about the ability of feeling when eyes-closed. Seriously, why do other schools not see the difference of Philip's chi sao (not sure if other schools practice poon sao)? Other versions seem like two kids are playing in the garden. 🤦🏻♂️
Yes, they should definetely change the name of martial art they practice. They can easily tell everyone that they invented a new style which is fine. But it is so funny when they still call it ving chun and trying to opponent's head eyes-closed while practicing chi sao. 😀 I heard and observed the similar things about financial part. Most of the schools really take advantage of students' money. They sell thirts, they sell levels. They don't let beginners to practice with experienced students and so on. This shouldn't be the core of ving chun. And maybe the most ridiculous topic is "how to block a knife" 😀 i see many videos talking about ving chun technique to protect yourself from a knife attack. Come on! 😀
Robert I will answer that question in PM. No need to stir up any negative comparison between organizations. Yes in all my fighting videos I was at amateur level. I have learned so much and improved a lot since touching hands, with the Masters. Mostly my confidence levels. If I can hang with the best of them with the little knowledge I have it motivates me to want to learn more. Yes I will be fighting in MMA again.
Philip Bayer,Gary lam the best teachers that I have seen!you start to practice with great teachers!boztepe,Philip, try Gary lam next time!you will not regret it!
Who would you say are the other two of the top three in your opinion? I'm sure Emin Boztepe must be one. Have you crossed hands with any Euro/Hong Kong Wing Tsun practitioners besides Samuel Kwok? Also, I highly recommend crossing hands with Grandmaster Allan Fong if you ever go back to New York. He trained for decades with Grandmaster Leung Ting of the WT lineage.
This is the first time I've actually seen Shawn practice real Wing Chun, from his facial expressions I think he feels the same way too... Good work Shawn!!!
Sean, great videos and congrats on the opportunity in meeting Master Bayer. He is one of the well known student of Wong Shun Leung. I wanted to ask you about your thoughts on the differences that you felt in chi sao from Emin to Master Bayer? What was the different between their chi sao, if any, and whom did you feel give you more trouble with your chi sao? Thank you.
exactly, thats the whole point... its because Wong was ip mans right hand man, and he probably also spent more time with ip man than anyone else... Philipps skill is really amazing, but you can not convince everyone untill they feel it themselves.. i honestly believe that the WSL ving tsun is also the only real wing chun there is.. ofcourse i can not claim this but still :P
Totally agree. I think the Wong Shun Leung top students are probably one of the best in Wing Chun. I have been training for a long time and have met a lot of so called masters and have done chi sao with them but none were impressive accept maybe 1 and that was when I was just starting out. I have to say that just by watching Master Bayer is, by far, way beyond anyone else accept perhaps 2 other top students of WSL.
thanx for the reply shaun, and your right i should have left that organization question alone, i hope all the best for you in your future fighting career and hopefully people will take you more seriously now you have trained with the best, mma and wing chun go hand in hand i think just no one has had the confidence or ability to try it, ive been training wing chun for 5 years and just started BJJ and muay thai so i hope to one day fight in MMA.
No idea of root? Philipp is constantly in balance while shuffling Obasi back and forth through chi sau already, let alone through attacking. And who's following hands? Philipp? His hands are following Obasi's body and sometimes arms get in the way and that's why you should move them out of the way. I wonder what you think the basic ideas of WC are.
My apologies, I misinterpreted your comment. I already found it strange. I thought you meant that Philipp was the one who has a hunchback and from then on I was confused even further. It all makes sense now. Cheers! ;)
dude,, ofcourse hes giving in... its not very clear to see, you have to feel it to understand it... Philips structure and balance is soo good that you cannot stay in place if he wants to move you.... unless you are very good ofcourse.. but there are maybe 2 or 3 other people on this planet who have this skill... and even that i cannot say for sure
Learned from Kevin Liu student of Lok Yiu Fun now Sifu for a short amount of time. The best lineage chooses you because it's what fits you best through many sifus have different lineages through different teachers not everyone is straight pure lineage of ip man himself a lot has been altered over the years. Phillip Bayers lineage is very solid though some of the best teachers. So is David Peterson and many others.
but like i said,, im not gonna judge because i could be wrong.. although i highly doubt im wrong, i could still be wrong.. what i said is my observation that comes from personal experience...
Shawn Obasi is learning/training with a master. This is not sparring. And one video clip is not indicative of a person's whole life and training.... don't judge. Shawn is also a MMA fighter whose base art is Wing Chun, he incorporates other styles into his own combat strategy. Can you see his grappling skills here? No, they're training Chi Sao. Phillip Bayer is my kung fu uncle by way of the Wong Sheung Leung family---WSL's student Gary Lam is my sifu. We receive very good training from the WSL system, I mean look at that, Phillip Bayer only has one hand but he shows his mastery of the art even without a left fist.
Whole life and training I was not commenting on and did not say this was sparring! This is sticking hands practice using Ving Tsun techniques! Repeat Shawn has below basic level Ving Tsun skill….
jonni blues Fair comments but I have to stick to my first judgement to be fair also. I can see he's being compliant, I know real ChiSau, there is a Video where Shawn is not being compliant at his Chi Sau with a Kung Fu brother of mine on the net. Also as long as you have for-arms you can get good results in Ving Tsun or to be blind!
If you look he's not comfortable with sifu bayer only having one hand, it means he hasn't got the hand to feel and use for control, every time he tries his hand slips off. This is not to mention the p bayer is one of the best wing chun practitioners from the best lineage in the world, is it any surprise that's it's one sided? . But yes I agree I thought he should of done better especially as he is the one who gets to show case wing chun to the Mma crowd. Peace
shaun obasi I dont know you but I have been watching your videos from the begining and your fights. A few questions. 1. Are you still fighting MMA? 2. did you consider your self and amature of wing chun in your earlier videos? 3. Have you trained with Ip Ching (the best in my opinion)? 4. How much do you believe you have improved after training with people like bayer?. 5. Im a bit sceptical about leung ting lineage how do you think they compare to WSL guys?
maybe, i am not all knowing... who were you thinking of? although i honestly dont believe there are that many people who have this skill in wing chun... the only people who could have a higher skill are other top students of Wong shun leung..
If you strip away all the 'lineage' or 'heritage' stuff and purely look at the skill, control, precision and power things start to look different. Skill is not hereditary as names and even titles might be. Even the son of the Grandmaster has to work equally as hard and probably harder to be called a master. The fact is somebody is somebody's son is quite often used as a reason why someone would be very skilled. From that perspective I find Philipp Bayer more skilled than Ip Ching is or was.
Eric McBride No you are, non of these wing chun guys have ever fought in MMA, this black guy did and look how it worked out for him. its not practical, self defense is ok but 1 to 1 fight with an experienced Martial Artist, its BS
si hablas de shawn probablemente es cierto, al igual que muchos practicantes de wing chun no saben llevar la practica a un combate real, no es el caso de philipp
Wow this stuff is garbage. just don't know wich one is worse, Akido, Wing chung, Krav maga or tai chi. hard to believe people think this form of self defense
Shawn Obasi is such a puzzle. He is undeniably serious, dedicated and passionate about martial arts. Unfortunately, he wastes his time with wing chun, which just not a very useful martial art. Not to say there may not be some tough wing chun people around. Maybe there are. But overall, learning wing chun is not the best use of one's time.
I agree, it's all about the fighter not the martial art. Take MMA with gloves and rule in a street fight which is wing chun domain It's a totally different animal and if a true fighter has the spirit and uses wingchun it is very lethal
starrrkkk "It's all about the fighter not the martial art." That is just nonsense. That is just a political statement designed to keep peace within the martial arts community. Of course the artist matters. But the art matters too. A lot. Everybody knows this, but we pretend isn't true just so people don't get offended. Look at it this way. Is every way of building a bridge just as good as every other way? Does it all come down to the skill of the bridge builder? Of course. Yes, the skill of the builder matters. But so does the design of the bridge. And some bridges are much better designed than others.
I wasn't there to show what I know. I was there to see what they knew. I was very impressed with the overall skill level and knowledge of their students. What a nice experience!
2019, just want to say that this is the only watchable video of Shawn doing chi sao with a Ving Tsun sifu.
This is true chi sao. Nothing fancy. Straightforward. Effective.
