Thanks for sharing. Love the detail & the zen. Based on my research, an air-cooled engine should be well under half of the temperature range you chose-even the exhaust port will likely stay below 400- but I suppose, for peace of mind, it's always better to over-engineer for at-home jobbies.
Thanks for watching! Agree, the high temp VHT should go well beyond what the engine surface temperatures will be. Their "engine paint" is rated lower. I didn't go with that.
It might have been a better idea to have fully stripped the entire engine & had the cases vapour blasted , then every point would've been absolutely spotless, but love the series, I too have 78 gs550, mine too was from Minnesota, great bike too
Thanks for watching! I don't disagree. I just set out to do everything with this bike myself on a small budget, for better or worse...warts and all. I know I could build a better bike with more professional help and a bigger budget. If the final product has a shortcoming of any kind, there's a useful lesson in that. That is my mission with this one anyway. Thanks again!
Currently binge watching this series. Love the detail

...as I assume they mean liquid cooled engine.
Just getting to this video, how has the vht paint held up over the past couple years?
Looks good where gas hasn't spilled on it. Right under the carbs I've had to touch up.
