I’m having the same experience right now. I’m on the fifth week and this has been brutal. They gave me a high dose of methyl prednisone and sent me into a steroid induced psychosis. This shit is miserable. It has gotten a lot less but the maniac symptoms still there sometimes and the Anxiety attacks. It is a lot less frequent. They said it would take 6 to 8 weeks for it to go away totally this has been one hell of a horrible ride. Anyone going through this I feel for you. Just hang in there.God bless

I had hallucinations as a child from being treated with cortisone where I believed that I was being chased by spiders. My parents were told that I was allergic to cortisone. Everytime I tell the doctors that I am allergic to cortisone they either tell me that it can't be or look at me perplexed. And there is hardly anything on the internet about this. I think I had steroid induced psychosis

I once ended up with a prednisone induced psychosis, went to the emergency with my wife, they told me I should drink some alcohol and nothing they can do because I've got similar symptoms to covid. They would have let me die on the street that night, which is a fact I didn't make up, which is more scary than the psychosis I had that night.

I also had this situation happen to me and I was only on steroids for a week. I didn't sleep for 5 days straight after taking them, then I slipped into the most terrifying hallucinations ever. Had to get taken to the ER, they thought I was schizophrenic so prescribed to me both antipsychotics and antidepressants at the same time which I found out later is a huge no no. Anyway I weened off of them after a week since I knew there was nothing wrong with me, and now I am completely back to normal.
I really wish doctors would explain that this is very real, very possible side effect of taking steroids. Then we wouldn't have to be labeled as being insane. I can only imagine how much more scary it was to go to the psych ward after that, luckily i dodged that bullet but I feel like I too would've gotten ptsd.
Thank you so much for sharing your story, it is much appreciated. We need more awareness about this.

I was prescribed Dexamethasone in early-mid January for Covid Pneumonia; first few days were fine, but when the psychosis hit, it turned into literally the scariest experience of my life. I had to stay at my Mom’s place for the next few days, because I felt like I was going crazy. I never had any overt hallucinations, but I had thoughts and thought patterns that made no sense, intense mania, and I would have episodes where I felt like every neuron in my brain was firing at a million miles per hour and would descend into horrifying panic attacks. I quickly got off the stuff after my medically trained sister diagnosed me. Worst experience of my life. I will never take a steroid again 😥

I had similar mania and hallucinations happen (but not like yours) in addition to uncontrollable shskes/chills. All from 10 mcg of prednisone for a month. I too am on antidepressants as well. You are absolutely right that there’s not much to search about on this except for side effects.
I did talk to my dr but they’re on vacation so the nurse told me to taper down to 5mcg until I see my immunologist (for chronic hives).

Hey it's me again (different account) Thank you so much! Yeah, Prednisone psychosis +Withdrawal can happen at low doses such as 10mgs. My Dr explained it gets into every tissue in your body and can get into the wiring of your brain so it can interrupt things. But they still don't know for certain if it's from prednisone but they are leaning towards it being such.
I was doing okay going on 5mg (but felt like absolute garbage all week) then felt much better at 4mg. I tapered down 1mg at a time, but once I got on the 3mg the hallucinations and shakes returned every night. I'm on 2mg right now and I get them nightly, so I take .5 of Ativan (it was prescribed to me for these symptoms) and for the most part helps. Sometimes I have to take 2 pills if I get woken up again with tactile hallucinations + uncontrolable shaking. They all tend to happen 12 hours after taking my prednisone dose each day. So I get the withdrawal symptoms at night. They seem worse the day after I taper down too. So I'm absolutely convinced it's adrenal crisis + withdrawals. I'm going to see my psychiatrist tomorrow and see what else I can do next. Prednisone is nothing to mess with long-term.
It just sucks so much that there's hardly any info on hallucinations or psychosis online nor much support groups for it because it's such a rare side effect. So it helps not to feel alone in this. I Do want to ask, did the psychosis go away after you stopped prednisone? Or did it take some time to leave your system before the psychosis symptoms stopped happening?

One of the most traumatizing things that ever happened in my life was the steroid psychosis I experienced and 2018. It lasted for about 2 weeks. I was in a dream like state, never admitted myself or went to the er. Everyone just thought I cracked and so did i. I thought I killed the Brazilian president, had a bounty of $500,000 on my head, went to China and India for a game show. Spent time with the jackass crew from MTV and more disturbing things. It took me a long time to figure out what it was considering when I went to the doctor they kicked me out and said I sounded like a crazy drug addict. Almost lost my job and was speaking nonsense to strangers at my job. My doctor prescribed me 900 mg of prednisone a day which just threw me into the most disturbing mind fuck nothing experience. Hopefully I can do a research paper on this Sunday and use everybody's experience on here as well to spread awareness cuz my God no one should have to experience that type of terror and confusion

  • @mondoguitar

My experience is not the same, but I went into a psychotic state of akathisia when I naively made the mistake of tapering both a benzo and Prozac at the same time. I still have PTSD from that and the scariest part was because of the half-life of Prozac, it didn't hit me until 3 months after I'd stopped and thought I was out of the woods.
Right now I'm at a very uncomfortable place and tomorrow I will begin the process of slowly replacing the fluoxetine with Wellbutrin. I'm really hoping that drug has some positive results with fewer side effects. My biggest fear is ending back up in that state where I'm awake 24/7, can't eat, can't sleep, and constant terror.
Thank you for being so open in your videos. Your Wellbutrin video is how I ended up here. All the best! - Bryan

I had one intense psychosis episode where I felt my consciousness leave my head and run around the room, as well as not sleeping more than 30 mins a night for a week. Following that for weeks after I had hallucinations where I was transported back to my childhood; triggered by sounds or smells. I was hospitalised in Jan 2021 for covid pneumonia, given antibiotics and Dexamethasone via IV. The psychosis started that evening, angels visited me and took me to see God. He told me I had a choice and if I wanted to return I would be able to heal people. Upon returning I thought I had the ability to heal and I had returned to save everyone from covid. I didn’t sleep for days and days and then developed severe paranoia where I thought someone was trying to kill me. Hallucinations were frequent, when transported for tests within the hospital the staff turned into dead relatives. This all carried on for 2 weeks and was the most frightening experience of my life. I also developed severe muscle spasms which they treated with a drug they give to people with Parkinson’s disease- can’t remember the name. After being discharged, coming off all the drugs was horrendous and left me with severe muscle paid for months. Thankfully I am almost back to normal now but the experience will never leave me.

Doc gave her a very high dosage of prednisone & my wife is a very small person so that combo did not work @ all. First stage was the joyfulness & the extreme ideas, second was the religion stage, third was the sleep deprivation & final was the full blown talking to angels & demons. Fortunately I was able to keep her out of psych ward @ the hospital but it was probably the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced w my wife, I felt so helpless & there was times where she was lucid but it was for like a 15 min period & then after that she was back in psychosis. God bless she is now good & hanging in strong, thank you for sharing your story.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience which has given me the courage to share my own. You are so right that there isn’t a lot out here for folks like us. I have MS and I am going through my 2nd occurrence of optic neuritis. I’ve been on steroids including IV for over a week and have 6 more days to go. I started experiencing steroid induced myopathy on my 2nd day of IV steroids and started experiencing steroid induced psychosis on my 3rd day of IV steroids. I have a useless ophthalmologist, an excellent neurologist and neuro-ophthalmologist but all insist on keeping me on the steroids at a reduced oral dose and documenting/ monitoring the psychosis and myopathy. I’m an educator so luckily I’ve been able to take my classes online because I can’t drive and can barely walk right now, plus I have organ traffickers chasing me through the jungles of Brazil with machetes and demons popping out of car windows. It sounds insane! And even harder for me to understand how lucid I am that I know it’s not real but there are moments that it feels very real….

I know im a little late but im reaching out because im afraid for my mother. She had covid 2 weeks ago and the doctor (non primary) perscribed her an average dose of dexa not knowing she is extremely sinsetive to medicines. She is having this exact situation, minus the hallucinations (thats shes made us aware of). She is sleeping 2 hours a night max and extremely emotional and fogged head. Her primary doctor has put her on .5 mg of atavan (3 times daily as needed, i convinced her to try only morning and night to not gain dependence on it) to ease the anxiety and she has been off the steroids for 1 week today after only taking them for 5 days. Any tips or advise you have for her family or for her? And what time frame would you guess we would be looking at for her to start feeling herself again?
    thanks so much.

Hey! So sorry you guys are all going through this! I would say be patient with her. And remember that she is still in there just not feeling herself so be kind to her. I had a different treatment to get back to normal so I can’t speak to that. But I’d encourage you to stay on it and keep in touch with her doctor if she gets worse or isn’t back to normal in a week or two. It took me awhile to get back, but I was closely monitored the whole time. It’s just a safe bet for everyone in the situation. Sending healing vibes. Sending her a hug from me 💜

@@toriebrame3419 thanks so much. She was in the hospital for 48 hours or so after fainting when she stopped taking dexa, they gave her lots of fluids and brought her blood pressure and sugar back to normal and she’s home now. She has friends coming over regularly and I spent the night last night to help. She says talking and doing things helps instead of just sitting around. So we’re trying to keep her engaged in things while also letting her rest.

Dexamethasone is one hell of steroid and although absolutely terrifying/I never wish it upon anyone, I'm glad to know I'm not alone. I only had dexamethasone in my system and had a VERY similar experience to yours. Anyone who is prescribed the drug should be given your TH-cam link. I felt ill-prepared and it's clear (given my own/everyones individual experiences) the general medical field is too when it comes to these scenarios even though plenty of cases and research confirming this exists. I just basically ruined my life because of this crap. I was put on dexamethasone and methylprednisolone for a long taper (2 months) from a very high IV dose. I basically went into a delusionary state where I couldn't sleep for up to 5 or 6 days straight most weeks and was pretty much in a dream state n believing things that weren't real. This went on for 2 months. I too experienced all the hallucinating and even physically feeling like I'm floating when I would lay down. I too "seemed sane" at moments but others I would be doing and saying the most bizarre shit. I pretty much have no memory from jan2023 to march2023. I also had severe diabetes and was having comas multiple times a week which I know added to this psychosis. I am lucky to be alive but lost many friends and ruined my reputation in my town. This has been a complete nightmare. Not to mention the insane spending spree I went on. I'm pretty much broken mentally and financially after this ride I went on. Thank you for sharing your experience! I felt so alone! Still feel alone cuz nobody not even the doctors understand the depth of this shit

Nearly 10 years ago after a couple months battle of steroids pre, during, and post back surgery I ended up in the ER. Scariest thing I have ever experienced and my wife went through it with me. Why i became the most Atheist agnostic because all my life with Jesus was nothing really not all that true reality and behind my deepest feelings I knew it. I always Hope for an honest Loving Creator but fails me to at least know. Reading Parts of the Scriptures i probably should have never read. But a loving honest Creator wouldn't call me a sinner for doing some research on why Scriptures tell you to shut up and know not of yourself rings a Big Bell and finding out why is simply being honest and truthful and any honest Doubt as horrible as it stands must stand. we were gifted with Knowledge and going to use it at any given Moment. i don't think a true loving Creator would want our spirits always confused and frustrated? But rather settled at ease full of Concentration. though Sin and stupid things come with the Consequences of.
