Her original owner taught her the "pawshake" before teaching "sit" or "watch me", because she thought it was cute; and now every time this big girl wants attention, she comes and slams you with a pawshake that feels like your crotch got hit by a train. She's a big, lovable goofball, who will melt onto the floor and ask for bellyrubs all the time. Such big babies they are.

If you haven't gotten a Dane yet and you want to start at puppy, here's the difference. American Dane lines will typically be under 140lbs, typically weight 125-130lbs. European Dane line are the bigger Danes, they are they ones that will be much bigger, usually 180lbs and up....usually count on being over 200lbs. Advantage of the American lines is a slight possibility of less health problems and a longer life span (but don't quote me on that - there are no guarantees)

But I will end up getting one and I can't wait for it. I really can't. They're great animals. But thanks again for the information.
Check out the Dane rescues. By getting one a little older you can better tell what exactly you are getting. If you should decide to go through a breeder make SURE that they breed for health, good bones and great temperment. Most really good breeders have the bitch and dog checked for eyes, hips, elbows and bloodwork. All breeders that breed show quality dogs of whatever breed always have "pet quality" dogs that they sell for a lower price and with a requirement that you have the dog or bitch neutered at an appropriate age. That being said . . . don't breed and don't neuter the Dane before at least about 1 1/2 years. This gives the long bone plates time to harden and it allows the dog to develope muscles they would otherwise most likely not develope. Otherwise the leg bones continue to grow and the Dane will end up being tall and gangly.

Obviously, the man isn't able to relax but he's continuing to show us what it is like. There's nothing to show he's not a great owner. I suspect the child in the background could take over playtime soon.

Your Dane is skinny. Mine is built like a tank. I like how you have an e-collar on him. Sometimes, its needed because these dogs are so strong and can be willful. Only a Dane owner would understand that. When they become playful, they can hurt a full grown man without even trying.

Your gonna need many new couches, I know this. My black lab is the worst,if she sees my eyes open in the morning she is in my face. I have to act like I'm asleep and my Akita/Golden is just as bad. But I lovem both.Wouldn't know what to do if something happened to them.
