Just got this as a gift and same. I think sadly the temp is too low. Have learned with other ones that I need about 200-210 degrees celsius, whereas this only goes up to 185 for "protection" :/

Whoever has this GHD platinum straightener/Flat Iron.Can you tell me if it gets heated past 200 degrees...my hair is hard to curl .. my curling iron temp reads like at least 280 to 350 just under 400 degree
range .if it won't heat up past 200./300 My.Hair won't stay curled for a few hours...

For everyone saying this is fake, it is not. You have to practice a lot or maybe have your hair stylist show you and let you try in the salon. I curl people’s hair with a GHD flat iron all the time. It has taken me a while to get the technique down and I still mess up sometimes.

Nope. Do not panic: This is not fake. I tried it myself. I got it, lost it, then got it again.
This is a late message, but hope it helps.
Place your hair in the iron. twist it UPWARDS. take the dangling piece of hair you are holding in your fingers, and twist it back.
You want the strand you are holding to be BEHIND the straighter.
So see some of your hair in the straightner: the strand is BEHIND IT.
(you must SEE this hair to have your iron at correct angle)
then just pull down, till the end.
Other things:
your flat iron must be HOT. im talking close to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
if a piece of hair is very hot from trying a lot or lots of use of the iron, it will be limp. it won't curl well.
