  • As we gathered to say farewell to Alan, one of our longest-serving staff, Chris took the opportunity to catch up with some of our HGV Drivers and find out what they enjoy about working at Platts Agriculture Limited.

As a recent retiree from driving for the last 52 years at age 68.5 y/o i can say its a very emotional event, like the old saying goes," If you love your job you will never work a day in your life" well done platts team for recognising this, the only advise i can offer is do as i did, wash the truck and trailer to show spec, empty the cab of all your gear, clean inside cab, fill it with fuel and add blue, park it, and take one last look, turnaround and walk away and dont look back, Its hard but it has to be done, i'm 14 months in now and still not drawn any of my 3 pensions, covid made me work an extra 2.5 years but it enabled me to top up and save a substantial pension fund by deffering it,. Working for own account/family firms is the way to go, good conditions ,equipment, money and a secure job is brilliant, would i go back to it ?, NO, ive done my shift and i never wake up in the mornings thinking "i wish i was going to work today "what time i have left is all mine now,......

As a driver myself of 21 years doing this job,I wouldn't recommend anyone to come into this industry,if your truck don't earn money, your out,and as for drivers, most of them will Stab you in the back than sooner look at you,all to earn brownie points with the management.
The facilities for drivers is shocking, and just generally crap,so if your thinking of driving a HGV,don't do it...do something else.
