Wow, Cameron, thanks for sharing so much about your passion for motorsports and all your favorites! It’s amazing to see how much you love IMSA, WEC, and racing history. Great to hear from a fellow motorsport enthusiast-keep enjoying the ride!
I would have chosen B also, mostly due to the crank and the history. My only concern with all three is internal cylinder rust. My engine builder recommended fogging oil at shutdown to prevent rust within the combustion chamber while in short and long term storage, with the intake and exhaust ports capped.
Great point about the crank and history with Engine B - that’s a huge factor. I totally get the concern with internal cylinder rust, especially with these engines sitting for a while. Fogging oil is a solid recommendation; I've heard it can really help prevent rust buildup in the combustion chamber. Capping the intake and exhaust ports is also a smart move. Thanks for sharing the advice - I’ll definitely keep that in mind moving forward!
Great tip, thanks! Dropping the sump to check the oil situation is a solid idea, especially if it’s been sitting that long. Can’t be too careful with these things - appreciate the advice!
Totally agree - that crank in option B is hard to pass up! Appreciate the encouragement; I’ll need the luck on this one! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I would go option A, as you have that engine already. and have it inspected . Of course without a dyno and no compression reference and so it is a hard choice
Good point - sticking with what I already have could save some cost and hassle, especially with a thorough inspection. Without dyno results or compression references, it definitely makes the decision tricky! Appreciate your perspective - it’s a tough call!
@@toooldandtooslow It always is, as there are other elements to think off. Some you can't see unless you do a scan. For instance micro cracks in the block. Also, hpw many times was the engine rebuild ? Is it close to its dimensions limit ? If that is the case, the engine might be good, but can't hardly be rebuild later. I would still fo for one , open it and measure and inspect all parts. In one day you are done... At least that is what I do with my Kent and Pinto's. have a great day
Engine B does seem like the best balance of performance and reliability! And AlexaGra’s suggestion to check the sump is solid advice - always worth ensuring everything's in top shape. Thanks for the input!
How critically weak is the cast crank verses the forged crank? I had never heard of that being a problem component in the Kent engine. He's elected to go with the forged crank. I think given the choices I'd have gone with option "C". Going through the engine fresh assures you every part is right.
Great question! The cast crank in the Kent engine generally holds up well for many applications, but for consistent racing performance, the forged crank offers that added durability and resilience under high stress. Going with the forged crank was partly for peace of mind over the long term, especially with a high-performance setup. Option C definitely has its advantages, especially with everything freshly built and fully checked. There’s something to be said for that extra confidence! Thanks for sharing your thoughts - every option had its appeal!
Good point! A properly tested and treated cast crank can definitely hold up well, especially with expert handling. B still feels like the safest bet for me, but I appreciate the reminder that cast cranks have their strengths too. Thanks for the advice!
Great choice! The Scat crank is definitely a huge plus for longevity and reliability. It’s a solid investment for performance, and it gives some peace of mind knowing it’s built to last. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Option B is definitely tempting with that fully rebuilt status and the high-performance Scat crank! It's a solid choice for reliability and performance. Thanks for sharing your pick!
The gearbox was completely rebuilt by JP and actually makes up most of the car's value-definitely something to keep in mind when considering buying a roller!
An LS3 with a cam - now that would be a beast! 😆 Definitely a tempting thought, but maybe a bit overkill for this little Formula Ford. Appreciate the suggestion, though; who doesn't love a good LS3 build!
Totally agree - the crank plus the bold build make B the clear choice. I’ve heard similar stories about cast cranks failing and causing serious damage. Thanks for sharing your experience - it definitely strengthens the case for B!
Good point - B does sound like the full package, especially with that high-performance Scat crank already in! Ready to go without the extra rebuild cost is tempting. Thanks for the input - this decision's a tough one!

Good choice on B, correct decision. I'd at least drop the sump off to make sure everything is still caked in oil if its sat for 2 years.
Great tip, thanks! Dropping the sump to check the oil situation is a solid idea, especially if it’s been sitting that long. Can’t be too careful with these things - appreciate the advice!
I’d go with option “B”, no question, if for no other reason than the crank. Good luck!
Totally agree - that crank in option B is hard to pass up! Appreciate the encouragement; I’ll need the luck on this one! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Good choice engine B hope it all goes well
Thanks! Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly with Engine B. Appreciate the support!

Engine B, i have had 3 Bold engines zero problems
That's great to hear! If Engine B has worked so well for you with zero issues, that’s some solid reassurance. Thanks for sharing your experience!
B. Hope it goes well.
Thanks! I'm hoping for the best with Engine B. The Scat crank should make a big difference. Appreciate your support!
B. But keep in mind, a cast crank that is properly crack tested and shot peened by someone who knows what they are doing is still good.
Good point! A properly tested and treated cast crank can definitely hold up well, especially with expert handling. B still feels like the safest bet for me, but I appreciate the reminder that cast cranks have their strengths too. Thanks for the advice!
Engine B would be my choice of the three. The Scat crank is a big value as we all know they last forever basically.
Great choice! The Scat crank is definitely a huge plus for longevity and reliability. It’s a solid investment for performance, and it gives some peace of mind knowing it’s built to last. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Engine B was the clear winner here.
Absolutely, Engine B definitely seems like the best choice! Thanks for the input - glad we’re all on the same page!
B because of the crank.
Good call - that crank really makes B stand out! Appreciate the input; it’s definitely a strong contender!
Option B.
Option B is definitely tempting with that fully rebuilt status and the high-performance Scat crank! It's a solid choice for reliability and performance. Thanks for sharing your pick!
Interesting when considering buying a roller.

LS3 with a cam
An LS3 with a cam - now that would be a beast! 😆 Definitely a tempting thought, but maybe a bit overkill for this little Formula Ford. Appreciate the suggestion, though; who doesn't love a good LS3 build!
Engine B for sure
Agreed! Engine B seems to be the way to go. Appreciate your input!

Looks like B is the popular choice! Appreciate the vote of confidence - it’s definitely the safe bet for performance and reliability!
B all day long. Crank plus bold.
I have had a cast crank go and it destroys the engine.

B……….. I’m no expert though
Hey, no worries - I’m definitely no expert either! But B does seem like a solid choice. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Another vote for B! Seems like the crank is winning everyone over - thanks for the input!
None of the 3 options. Go to the same engine builder as I use :)
Ha! If only I had your budget, Andy! I'd need to find a few more pennies (or maybe a hidden treasure) to afford your engine builder!
B, ready to go, from a good builder with a couple of grand crank already in it.
Reckon you did the right thing.
Good point - B does sound like the full package, especially with that high-performance Scat crank already in! Ready to go without the extra rebuild cost is tempting. Thanks for the input - this decision's a tough one!
