    Soteriology for me is experiencing thus: Recognition of my utter desolation in the face of my infinite God; subjecting myself to His presence and will; receiving His mercy ‘mysteriously’; then SLOWLY recognising the justice contained within this gift (I’m very dumb and stubborn) and then agreeing to this way of the cross OVER AND OVER AND OVER (perseverance) as I conform my life to Christ’s. This is freedom and life for me!🙏

      That’s a great way to approach it, perseverance being key!

    Fr. Columba, this was by far the best and most helpful explanation of what St. Paul meant when he wrote that Jesus "became sin", becoming so intimately united to us that he took our sins as if they were His own and confessed them to the Father. Beautiful!

      I totally get where you’re coming from. Some things just have to be sat with and pondered (Adoration being the best place for this) until, even if only for some brief moments, we receive the grace of new insights to help it all click and make sense. Understanding God and His ways is a grace we should pray for. And yet to think - there’s so much more that we will only see and know in the next life!

    Fr. Columbo, if Jesus free us from sin, then why there's hell?

  • @tonyhayes9827
    @tonyhayes9827 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If offense is to do with the dignity of the one offended then if God's dignity is infinite then that makes my finite sin, infinite right? Why is it then that if I repay the infinite dignity of God with my finite payment then why doesn't God's infinite dignity make my payment infinite just like my sin. It seems a bit two faced to me. My sin was not infinite in its own right because everything I do is finite right? It's who I sinned against that makes my finite sin infinite. So why isn't it also true that it's who I made reparation to that makes my reparation infinite too?

    • @ctmcatholic
      @ctmcatholic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tony, many thanks for your comment and willingness to discuss this topic. I think of it like a baby spilling a jar of jellybeans: they’re capable of making the mess, but not capable of cleaning it up. With God, his dignity and worth and goodness is so much greater than ours, that in the right order of things we should only praise and honour and worship Him. However, we sin, we offend his dignity, and because of our smallness have no way of making up for it. That would be a truly horrible end to our story if God didn’t send His only son to die for us and forgive us of our sins.
      Hope that’s can be of some help! Katie

    • @tonyhayes9827
      @tonyhayes9827 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ctmcatholic I like the jelly beans analogy. That's the best analogy Ive heard. The child (us) needs the parent (Jesus) to clean up the mess. That puts things in perspective very nicely.
      Ive always thought it harsh we can sin against the infinite but can't make reparation to the the infinite even though we're the same finite person who made the sin.
      However I can understand a child can make a mess that same child is incapable of cleaning up. That makes a great point.
      We may well accuse our smallness when it comes to making it up but we have the same smallness when we make a mess too and never seem to give ourselves credit for that.
      We don't punish the child for spilling the jelly beans or demand reparation from it because we know its just a child and doesn't know any better. But I guess we do know better . Mind you the church does say a mortal sin is only mortal if we know its mortal and most people don't know abut sin these days.
      I like the mystery in our relationship with God. It should be there somehow. We are just a mirror image as Paul says. Like how can us men be a member of the church if the church is the bride of Christ? Doesn't that make us all gay. Yeah I know, it doesn't but it underlines the mystery of the spiritual marriage of which our marriage is only an image. God appeared to us as a man and said if you know me you know the Father. Does that mean God is a man? Again I know it doesn't mean that. There's something more going on here and I guess for that we need to seek.
      My initial question to you is just that; seeking. I ask the church (yourself) and the church answer. Seek and find. Thanks for your channel.

    How can Hou say it is total forgiveness when we have been told we will be told all our Sin's ever committed in the end times!!! Aren't we going to be punished for our sins then???
    We are told to go to confession and be forgiven
    For our sin's but not forever. If in the end times
    They will be brought up again!!!

    • @arysia3290
      @arysia3290 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because in the end times, too, Jesus paid the price & our sins are forgiven. Completely. When we die conformed completely to Christ, like Fr. Columba said, His payment and merits will be ours. In this way, when all sins are revealed in the end times, we will see even more how great God's mercy actually is.

      Quite right, and just to add to that here’s a related piece on Catholic.com, particularly relevant is the end: “It’s important to note, however, that this in no way implies that we will experience shame in other people knowing our sins. The righteous will rejoice in God’s mercy as well as in his power manifested in how he brought about good from our sins.” www.catholic.com/qa/everyones-sins-revealed
