I was a DS at Fort Sill 89-92. Great times. I would fall asleep at night memorizing those damn modules ! Good luck and give it hell ! Whoosha ! “ This we’ll Defend”
"you just look at somebody the wrong way here and you get a negative counseling statement" damn! can you imagine what's in this dude's folder then???? With THOSE eyeballs?!?
Hey man Good Luck! If you ever have any questions, feel free to message or comment. If I can help even one candidate then these videos are all worth it.
One of the coolest things about when I went through was that I got to go back to where I did my basic and even back to the same platoon that I was actually in
How do you know if you what platoon you get? Are you basing it off the person that sent you the welcome packet? My person (that sent my welcome letter )was in the Wolfpack platoon? Is that how you knew you platoon?
So I'm still in the decision phase of looking at becoming a Drill Sergeant; my points for E-6 are just barely under 800 and I'm just over 1/2. I know it's a HUGE boost toward your NCEOR but aside from the DS badge, the points are so-so. I'll have four years remaining on this contract in 2023 so is going for the DS Academy a good move? What would you study in particular prior to even trying to go?
Just a thought that I have always pondered from past leadership, classes, and failures. Okay here it goes I will brace myself for negative comments and backlash. Do you ever think that it is not always the student failing the course but the leadership failing the student. I had a CSM once tell me when a soldier does not pass a PT test, a course, or gives up it is not the soldier who failed it is that the leadership faild the soldier. He made a point to say that the NCO has a greater responsibility to every soldier. I hope that came out right. I guess what im trying to ask is when you have such a high drop out rate and class failure rate that it might be that the leadership is failing them?
Thats a great questions! I felt depending on the platoon (I hate to say it but its true) you had a different mentality of leadership. Some platoons Drill Sergeant Leaders were more of mentors to the NCOs going through the course where other platoon's DSL's were prideful in making YOU as an NCO earn it with little to no mentorship. I think if there was a way to have it both ways (which maybe some platoons did) that would be the most beneficial.
Chris Wilkes everyone’s treated the same here! It’s a good deal because if you get promoted to E8 then you won’t be a Drill anymore but you keep the badge and you can make CSM.
You can get any of the million you may have to pitch. The way it is set up now is you pitch 1 of the top 3 then you flip a chip to pick the modules for the rest of the time you are at the USADSA.
@@NgJackal1990 It emulates basic training day to day. But after dinner chow you're typically released for the day. You can go back to you room and use your phone go to the gym or do what ever you want. Most will study when released.
I agree with Jared. It’s doable, but if you fail you get a marginal 1059 and that’s on your record for the remainder of your career in the Army. That’s not so great.
I'm really confused on your shock at the difficulty level. And maybe, just maybe, that has to do with your recent promotion to the NCO Corps. Either way, congratulations on making it there and I wish you well. Our recent generations of Soldiers have not been reared like they should and while that is not the DSAs fault, the DSA is our last hope to correct this stuff. Get that patch and make some Soldiers!
I was shocked by the level of difficulty because I am a reservist who had been working with Drill Sergeants at my unit preparing for the Academy months prior to shipping here. When I got here I quickly realized things had changed at the Academy and have become much more rigorous due to the fact that our future generations depend on us more to shape them into soldiers. Things are very different at the Academy now then they were a year ago (That was the last time someone from my unit was at the Acadmey). So, what I was "prepared for" was not reality when I got here. Otherwise, I appreciate the encouragement, one day at a time, week by week I surrender my timeline to God and whats meant to happen will happen. Excited to see what the future holds as a Drill.
Also, my recent promotion to E5 to come to the Academy doesn’t have anything to do with the difficulty of the Academy. We have had over 20 NCOs who have been in the Army for 10+ years get sent home and yet we have E5s here who have only been in for 3 years that are still here and excelling. And, although I feel it is difficult, I’m one of very few NCOs here that does not currently have any Negative counseling statements.
@@harperk7134 I wrote your recent promotion may have correlated with your shock at the difficulty level. I made no comments on aptitude or ability in relation to your TIG. I did make an inference to your experience.

Super helpful! Just got out of basic and I can feel a huge draw towards being a Drill Sergeant. Good to get some idea of what will happen.
That’s what everyone says 😂
This was funny to read. Thanks
Thanks for sharing! I report to school in July. I’ll be an E-5 until a week or two in so I’ve been worried about being lowest ranking as well
You will definitely be the lowest
Im there now, 1st 72hrs complete. One of our candidates asked "we're not the black sheep are we?"

I was in E 3-60 in basic, right across the street. We would see the academy already started with pt by the time we got out there in the mornings lol

Sounds like some tough duty!
Recruits likely have no idea what the DIs have gone through, in order to learn how to train the recruits.
Try that same story. At Ft Leonardwood, in January. Average temp 40 degrees
That is from January through April. The only day we didn’t go run was when the post was shut down. -20. Still PT. Just skipped the run

What got rid of the 20 something NCOS? PT Failures?
Crystal Chapman PT failure is one of many things. A lot of failures as you go along.
I wanna go to DS school...
So you only have to say 1 module ?
One of the three. You draw which module you pitch just moments before you pitch the module. so you need to know all three before the pitch.
Do you need to stay in the barracks if you going to DSA ?
So, how was it?
I just got to the academy today. What can I expect for the first day? What do most people get counselings for?
Amanda Juarez hey sorry I missed this. Hope your first week went well!
Brah how do you not bring all the shit on your packing list?
DS, do you turn pvts into ashes with them eyeballs?
Vannara Meas absolutely.
Thanks for posting. I’m really thinking about volunteering, what’s your thought on going in as an E7? Thanks for the help.

what are the next modules after the third module of the hand salute?
You can get any of the million you may have to pitch. The way it is set up now is you pitch 1 of the top 3 then you flip a chip to pick the modules for the rest of the time you are at the USADSA.
So it gives you an advantage to practice it for at least a week before you have to pitch it for your grade.
