My Friend Pete does some trading and bartering for a Class 5 Baja Bug. It turns out that his car is nothing more then a BIG MONEY PIT that's gonna take a complete restoration and mechanical rebuild to even get this thing road worthy! It's RIP OFF Time over at Southwest Rod And Custom and We're Getting SCREWED BIG TIME!

y so much for the brakes on my 74 it cost 12 bucks for the wheel cylinders 35 for the mast cylinder drums were 45 each i was going to replace everything but it was new all ready just had to put a new master cylinder in it and a new brake line to the back still had the original in it started to leak

@@RodderFiles i only have 400 in a 63 and 74 bug the 63 has a 72 bus trans axle with the 1600 dual port the 74 is stock setup but has a lot of chrome both have the full plate supper traps chrome both are rust free the 63 has a new pan. i picked both up for 400 for both. been driving them for over 5 years the 74 has tags for the road

2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as
exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox
oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no
investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even
created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. :-(!!!!!

U should watch uncle Tony's garage video , he takes a welder and cycles it on a 5 yr dead battery and makes it work...hey from Cleveland.. and I'm gonna say a hobby like this is gonna be a labor of love...hope I have this problem later when I move to utah
I gave up on trade deals a long time ago because I have been fucked on every single trade deal I have ever done!
The battery appears to be an off-brand deep cycle battery that works fine in vehicles, but too large for a stand battery angle iron frame. The wing nuts give it away.
Storing a vehicle requires fuel additive and starting every 6 months. A battery tender will keep a battery in reasonable condition and check the electrolyte level if not sealed. I would have the tray swing out toward the right rear tire if the wheel house looks big. But the 12 shocks will be in the way. Use the quick release pins of the type you like as sold by McMaster-Carr. It needs loving care as there are no mistakes, only happy little accidents on money pit 511. The 511, is the area code for the previous owner! Congrats Pete! It needs more toggle switches and cow bell baby!
Most of those numbers were the following, 5 meaning class # , 11 was number in that class. Hope that helps. I use to follow that stuff back in the day in Hot VWs and Dune Buggies magazine.

i like the bugs i got for 400 bucks one has been running and driving for over 5 years the other one is a 63 with a 72 bus transaxle 1600 dual port engine just needs a carb to drive both are rust the 63 has a new pan they even had tow bars on the front of them the 63 has wheel adapters for chevy wheels the other came with new wheels and tires 33 in the back everything works on both lights and stuff like that both are legal for the road both have chrome supper traps with all the plates still in them lots of after market parts
Looks like he built the buggy around the battery and tank. You don't need a giant tank for that now. Make everything accessible, don't know how he did in those rallies with everything so hard to fix.

That car has a lot of potential but if you bought it thinking it was going to fire up after a battery charge then you're head must be in the sand.

i'm halfway through this video. going to predict that when you get the fuel tank and new battery installed, it ain't going to fire up. the carb (correction: carbs) is full of varnish and gunk and is going to have to either be professionally cleaned and refurbished or replaced. probably the fuel pump is also no good, and I'm sure you know that if the diaphragm is cracked, it will leak gas into the crankcase which will cause excessive main bearing wear in no time, which will kill your oil pressure. ask me how i know
A new battery is a little over a hundred bucks unless you want one of those ASA ones then they will cost more but you can get a cheap battery for hundred bucks anyway can't wait to see the old bug shit or money trap get going and baja the trails of Moab Utah

Fuck I probably would pulled the engine it might have been easier. I had a '68 Baja and the engine in that screwy thing could be out in 15 minutes. Only 4 damn bolts holding it in.

Looks like a true pro used the battery terminal as a junction block(sarcasm)... Ignorance is rampant when it comes to knowledgeable battery wiring solutions. I know what Im talking about and its a damn shame that average pro builders dont. I know that for fact because too many really expensive builds end up with more than one main wire at one or both battery terminals... the only reason for that is professional ignorance. Look at the short video that shows up at the top of my page for the solution before replying to this post. Thank you.
