Great video. 1:54 Wii Fit actually had a title screen at the E3 2007 demo. There’s very little footage online of it and I’m not sure if it had music on the title screen. The thing weird with this title screen is that it says 2007-2008 which means they probably decided after releasing the game to add a title screen for the demo.
@@RRBB717 It’s on the cutting room floor pre release article for Wii Fit the title of the video is “Wii Fit (e3)” The title screen is only shown for a couple of seconds.
So the one thing I’ll note, the Wii fit body check channel doesn’t make too much sense in the US, but in Japan you’ve got a yearly annual health check where you’re given a full physical and receive a scored rating on your health. If you’re under a threshold (Eg high BMI) you have a certain amount of time to “fix” it before it’ll affect your healthcare and potentially job status. So it’s likely this is a part of the tracking by a doctor to make sure you’re making SOME progress etc

I swear wii is the reason im so fit today. I played the wii all the time growing up. Crazy thing is i still have my original wii technically, my grandparents took it cause i was eventually just done with it but i still have it and its original data. I know for a fact i 100% completed mario kart, mario bros, RE4, dragon ball z budokai tenkaichi 2, super smash bros, a couple sonic games, i played so much wii sports and wii fit it was crazy, and its sad that we dont get things like this today. The wii was such a powerful device back then (not talking in terms of power) but in terms of meeting friends or playing with people, even if it was people you wouldnt normally get along with. I had a friend that we would get the whole block all together just to play super smash bros. Nowadays it seems hard to find anyone that plays games or the same games as you do, i wish that nuance and power of gaming still existed. As much as the switch is supppose to be portable, i really never have seen one in the wild. I remember when 3DS dropped those were in almost everybody's hands. Its insane how much progress®ression at the same time we have made for gaming. Even online games arent like they use to, everybody use to talk on the mic literally everyone had a mic nowadays nobody has a mic or anybody that does just doesnt like to speak. But, in all honesty, i understand why with how the world is turning into, almost every week we hear about how someone k*lled someone over a video game.
0:45: Wii Fit was NEVER $80. With the Balance Board, it was as low as $99. And no, we can't see it in HD because the Wii was SD.🤡 And the lost Wii media that we ACTUALLY want is: ✅The beta build of Donkey Kong Barrell Blast (aka DK Bongo Blast) that still had support for the DK Bongos. MUCH better than shitty version that shipped. ☑The finished LucasArts Star Wars game that used Motion Plus but got cancelled after LA was sold to Disney. Yes, it exists. Yes, it was as cool as it sounds.🌠
The wii startup disks were common during early development of wii games. Nintendo dev kits have always been weird, they used to use command prompt on the connected PC without an OS most of the time. but I know we used the start up discs.. They were used to put the game into a retail environment towards the end of the dev cycle of early games before they were released. Wii u was probably the weirdest, I was one of the first people working at my studio that got one, just a weird gold box with zero external buttons and no drive that didn't have an OS for testing until after the game went gold. I'm also probably not supposed to say this but for the first 3 months there wasn't even a Wii U controller, we just used USB 360 controllers.
I was working on guitar hero during wii times, and blops2 during wii u times, for anyone interested. Konami for glee and def jam rapstar we always used discs to flash the system, as Konami only had test kits.. Including these start up disks for compatibility testing with non upgraded day 1 OS which nintendo required , games to be mostly compatible with. I can only assume none of these made it out because if it had, it would have ended the career of whoever did, the developer would be fined heavily by nintendo, and the developer would in turn sue the employee, as well as the employee being industry blacklisted.
I remember the wii startup disc fondly. Well, there's two of them i remember. The one i for sure remember was the black screen with white text, but it still made those sounds from the 'lost media' disc. From what i remember from both, you had to insert a disc no matter what, and we owned a Wii in 2013 and that was around the time the disc that's in this video had already been released, and soon lost. All i remember was getting mad when i accidentally took a game out without shutting it down completely, and i'd get an error screen exactly like that one in the vid telling me i needed a disc to play the game i wanted. Mind you, the disc looks EXACTLY the same as it does in the vid, everything was grey with a shiny border, and shiny text that says "Wii" at the top and "Startup Disc" with more text in the middle. Im 17 now, so i'm pretty sure i'm old enough to remember something like this. Hope this helps at all! (I can try my hardest looking everywhere for this disc and post it somewhere useful, but i've moved so many places over the years that this thing is probably trashed by now. Back then, it was an asset, but not really an important disc to my family or me. So i don't blame us for wanting it gone, as i mostly played like the original 3d Super Smash Bro's and some newly released spongebob games that are still purchasable to this day).
Now that I notice it.. 4:52 the screenshot there is basically a demo/taikenban that was later reused for Pilotwings Resort(?) for 3DS, as you can fly around with a jetpack iirc in that game on Wuhu Island!
9:26 Preeeetty sure phones back then didn't have the pedometer and step tracking for you to "use an app" instead lmao But you know what did? The 3DS. And combined with the units used in the hospital then you can see why this makes sense for the doctor to be assigning this function for you. It was definitely for people in active recovery since the wii fit board was good at measuring a lot about the way you move and your balance.
5:32 I Remember one time at this kids hospital [which i wont be saying publicly for privacy reasons] they had one of those wiis with the built in games and game menus, it was so long ago though
The real Startup Disc was eventually found. That's the footage you showed. The story about a disc burned with RAAE was someone who got the Wii that was asking for it, remembered that the proper Wii Menu is hardcoded to always reject a valid disc with the "RAAE" ID, and wondered if that might be because it was the ID of what was obviously a disc to install the Wii Menu itself. So, they fakesigned a regular game with that ID, put it in (presumably after chipping the system), and the game launched.
That jetpack image is pretty much guaranteed to be a screenshot of someone doing a mockup, as it apparently uses wiimote models for the 'thrusters'. However, it's with Wii Sports, which included Wuhu island (right from the start, before Fit), which later popped up in Pilotwings Resort, as well. Pilotwings 64 before this had a handful of games, notably a jetpack, a gyrocopter flight game, and a birdman bonus, as well as hang glider. We've seen Sports was going to have a flight game from the start and got a different one, and Sports Plus got a sort of bird-suit game plus Pilotwings Resort got everything else... so the obvious conclusion is they were planning to throw everything from Pilotwings in as early as alpha stage, using that new island. That image would have been a mockup to show how the gamemode would play, but it likely never made it into full development. I mean, it's not a big leap to assume they planned at one point to make a Pilotwings Wii as a launch title (akin to Pilotwings for SNES and 64 for N64), shuffled concepts about to instead go with Sports when time crunch meant they wouldn't have it as a launch title, and parts got cut for not working or not being fun, to be used later. The wing-suit and airplane mode sort of made it (with the birdsuit coming in Sports Plus later being cut from original Sports), but later on wanting more games they finally went back to make Pilotwings Resort which used the original things. I mean, it *does* answer the question of why after being a launch title 2 in a row, Pilotwings wasn't for the wii: It was going to be, but got shuffled into another game and cut up so we never noticed!
4:37 this looks just like birds eye bullseye that came on wii fit plus, except obviously the mii isn’t in a bird costume. the area in that image is almost exactly the setting of that mini game so my guess would be this was a test/concept for the game that would eventually be in wii fit plus.
11:51 That image is kinda wild for something actually made by Nintendo, even as a mockup. Sometimes being able to read a little Japanese is fun, and this is one of those times. We have the Japanese title for Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past at the top, but with the Japanese name for the NES rather than SNES in the corner above, the Japanese for "enter comment enter comment enter comment" repeating in the middle of the screen, and placeholder Green Hill Zone?! Just wow.
The StartUp Disc is interesting. My family got a Wii in the mid-2000s and we abused the hell out of the Mario Kart game. Cut to mid 2010's and the Mario Kart game no longer wanted to function every time we tried to start a race, giving us a black screen with text saying there was an operation error and that we needed to insert the start-up disc. We never had a start-up disc. Now, I wonder how the hell my dad was able to get the system to work in the first place considering he bought the Wii brand new in the box, not second-hand.
Liked the video. Little advice going forward: you might want to consult sites like The Cutting Room Floor (or just compare footage) so you can talk about what the actual differences are between the released game and the lost media bits. It's always more interesting to see what changed or was left out! Second, it's... it's better to just rerecord a line if you make a mistake like the ear thing.
5:27 That looks like Wii flow, which was an unofficial channel for a modded Wii! I didn’t know there was an official menu that looks like a modded Wii!
@@myang12003 yes it does resemble wiiflow a lot, I would know because I use wiiflow! However, this menu is entirely official, maybe the developers of wiiflow used the same animations for their software.
3:12 my guess is that Nintendo planned to sell the balance board seperetly, if yours broke, and they wanted to ship this alongside (idk why) but that's my guess
I think the reason for the title screen for Wii Fit Taikenban could be for if it was on a kiosk in stores to try out, then you could go up & click to play. It wouldn’t help much if it was already playing when you wanted to try it out :) the different disk & boxart is probably to help the workers differentiate what is the demo Wii fit & the actual Wii fit :)

Mentioning the jetpack, it's a option you can choose in Pilotwings Resort on the 3DS. Wuhu Island is the map in the game, so it makes me wonder if that photo could've been a demo for the game.
@@electroid4 probably not considering pilotwings resort (probably) wouldn’t even be in the picture considering it was 2005. but hey anything’s possible
There's a fair bit of Gamecube Taikenban discs. The 1st party Nintendo one were used in game stores as demo discs and were not available to the public to purchase. Not 100% sure for the third party ones but should be the same. This is subjective but based on my research there's likely ~500 produced for each. Some are much rarer than others though.
10:42 Just to be clear, this footage is not real. This was a concept. The Forecast Channel banner was actually made by me, and the News and Internet Channel banners were modded by me. I was a part of the group that made this conceptual beta Wii menu.

@@RRBB717 It’s on the cutting room floor pre release article for Wii Fit the title of the video is “Wii Fit (e3)” The title screen is only shown for a couple of seconds.
@@RealBjohn 👍👍thank yiu
@@RRBB717 No problem. :)
So it’s likely this is a part of the tracking by a doctor to make sure you’re making SOME progress etc
for the wii sports 2005 beta build, the part with the jet pack seems like what ended up being the jet pack game in pilotwings resort for the nintendo 3ds :)

i’d love if you made an hour + long video on lost media from the wii era
Great video! Love this style of content.
Real nice video you have here. I like to think that there isn't a lot of lost media in gaming that I don't know about, but you surprised me with the plane and jetpack modes for Wii Sports. Keep up the good work man, you earned a sub from me 🎉
Great first vid! I’d love to see more Wii Lost media videos. The whole idea of a Wii focused channel is really cool, keep it up!
But, in all honesty, i understand why with how the world is turning into, almost every week we hear about how someone k*lled someone over a video game.
underrated asf but im excited for u to get a new mic someday
@@fryguyy haha yeah i use my phone mic so it may sound a bit off
0:45: Wii Fit was NEVER $80. With the Balance Board, it was as low as $99. And no, we can't see it in HD because the Wii was SD.🤡
And the lost Wii media that we ACTUALLY want is: ✅The beta build of Donkey Kong Barrell Blast (aka DK Bongo Blast) that still had support for the DK Bongos. MUCH better than shitty version that shipped. ☑The finished LucasArts Star Wars game that used Motion Plus but got cancelled after LA was sold to Disney. Yes, it exists. Yes, it was as cool as it sounds.🌠
Rest in Peace, Satoru Iwata 🪽
Great video! The Wii is truly a special system, glad you made this.
For only a couple of videos your editing is pretty good man
YT just recommended this channel to me - interesting video, I subscribed :)
Now that I notice it.. 4:52 the screenshot there is basically a demo/taikenban that was later reused for Pilotwings Resort(?) for 3DS, as you can fly around with a jetpack iirc in that game on Wuhu Island!
damn, you have a really unique voice
i was sick as shit while recording the voiceover for this video so I was a little stuffy in my nose. but thanks
I love the focus on Wii content on your channel. Definitely earned a sub from me
wii startup disk is creepy
5:32 I Remember one time at this kids hospital [which i wont be saying publicly for privacy reasons] they had one of those wiis with the built in games and game menus, it was so long ago though
This channel is underrated
The real Startup Disc was eventually found. That's the footage you showed. The story about a disc burned with RAAE was someone who got the Wii that was asking for it, remembered that the proper Wii Menu is hardcoded to always reject a valid disc with the "RAAE" ID, and wondered if that might be because it was the ID of what was obviously a disc to install the Wii Menu itself. So, they fakesigned a regular game with that ID, put it in (presumably after chipping the system), and the game launched.
Subbed! Love Nintendo lost media stuffs❤
Damn this was a great vid and I even learned a couple new things! Great work Hope to see more!
kids in hospitals really been playing peak, if i could play super paper mario while i was hospitalized i'd break another leg to complete it
That jetpack image is pretty much guaranteed to be a screenshot of someone doing a mockup, as it apparently uses wiimote models for the 'thrusters'.
Just wow.
they found the wii fit body check channel
@@SAMSOMAR1 I saw lol I’m making a video soon
The StartUp Disc is interesting. My family got a Wii in the mid-2000s and we abused the hell out of the Mario Kart game. Cut to mid 2010's and the Mario Kart game no longer wanted to function every time we tried to start a race, giving us a black screen with text saying there was an operation error and that we needed to insert the start-up disc.
We never had a start-up disc. Now, I wonder how the hell my dad was able to get the system to work in the first place considering he bought the Wii brand new in the box, not second-hand.
You know when the video uses Mario Kart Channel - Mario Kart 7 it'll be a great video
rlly enjoed the video bro :D
weatherscan in the background goes tuff
I loved the Wii. There were also good games on the Wii U, too bad that console flopped
I forgot about the wii fit demo. Thanks for the great video!
Hey nice video yo
When its the 2nd part droppin?

@@myang12003 yes it does resemble wiiflow a lot, I would know because I use wiiflow! However, this menu is entirely official, maybe the developers of wiiflow used the same animations for their software.

Thanks!
3:12 my guess is that Nintendo planned to sell the balance board seperetly, if yours broke, and they wanted to ship this alongside (idk why) but that's my guess
lol why was that Layton magazine there… nice vid btw!

Theres I think a secret channel on Wii, I remember it was called "Wii Club" or something like this that replace the game slot in Wii Menu, I never got a chance to see it but i cant stop thinking bout it

I thought of birds eye bullseye from wii fit plus, maybe that the concept was recycled and modified for a mini game on there
@@frontbottomsfan this could also be a possibility
There's a fair bit of Gamecube Taikenban discs. The 1st party Nintendo one were used in game stores as demo discs and were not available to the public to purchase. Not 100% sure for the third party ones but should be the same. This is subjective but based on my research there's likely ~500 produced for each. Some are much rarer than others though.
10:42
Just to be clear, this footage is not real. This was a concept. The Forecast Channel banner was actually made by me, and the News and Internet Channel banners were modded by me. I was a part of the group that made this conceptual beta Wii menu.
