I don't know when this part of the base was closed, the main part of the base was closed in 1998 and now is a National Historic Landmark being restored and has a WW2 Museum. I just put a link in description for more history info.
If anyones interested we have a haunted house there now, this friday and saturday are the last days of this month to go check it out, its 12.50 a person open from 7to11
