I read this book many years ago for a college class and really enjoyed it. I remember discussing it with friends and my younger sister also read and enjoyed it. Whether listening or reading I always choose unexpurgated versions. This is a pleasure to listen to.
I was raised in the Bible belt, sheltered from the secular world, forced to memorize verses and never really knowing anything about the world outside of God, but without knowing the secular world, we never truly tested our faith and it was ,in fact ,weaker than any blind faith i have witnessed. I think this book opens itself to the same interpretation of the Bible, but with Monk, there are no contradictory prophecies that one notices after being forced to memorize the thing.

Okay just listened to the Antronto novel....he is right, except for one part...It is very medieval. Which means that real ghosts and miracles and the portents of heaven are important, and there is a certain tact and social strata which allows a clearly mad baron continue on his way unimpeded by rank and pushing aside what he does not wish to be true and is madly trying to avoid and negate while he can until he comes to his senses. It is a dull tale.
The overuse of the word bosom is so jarring 😭 Also spoilers maybe but: Matilda had to be faking dying of a centipedro but being able to live if she gets that monk to bed with her 💀
