    a lovely presentation from the two of you. I look forward to hearing more about the traditions of Ukraine. Wishing you and all Ukrainian people especially the children and those relatives and friends whose sons and daughters might be in captivity or fighting with courage against a tyrannical oppressor and in the bitter winter conditions. Christ is born! Glory to Him!

      glory to noble Ukraine, and may the ignoble Russian-federation's ppl be contained by a hybrid coalition of the willing, truely loving people who will keep this decade-long worldwide dark-trend-syndrome contained, be it near Ukraine, or as far as my own United States of america

    Our bodies are vessels, we are musical instruments. We have to stay in tune, not too flat nor too sharp. Ukraine sings beautifully, but the enemy knows no songs. Evil machine-like chatter, empty & dark with no soul.

    YES! Joe is spot on about how american culture in particular lacks the cultural aspects of what even we used to call "Christmas-tide". I'm half third gen irish/british immigrant family myself.

    I like your coverage of Ukrainian culture. I hope you will continue it. I remember a mention you one made about seeing young women in the park singing and giving ribbons to a soldier leaving for the war. I wanted to know more about that.

    "Christ is being born!" on the Eve and "Christ is born" is on and after the Day. ("Христос народжується"). In the Kharkiv rocket attack video a mother tells her child: "There's another rocket coming in, but don't be afraid".

    • @jplindsley
      @jplindsley  11 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      Ah, now I see the distinction! That's what Blacksmith meant by 'borning' 😂
      I had missed that detail about the Kharkiv video. thanks.

    The Twelve Days of Christmas is more than the popular song. Many churches and faiths have a Christmas season.

    I'm a stone cold atheist, but I enjoy all your reporting, including reports about Ukrainian religion like todaay.
    Do you know anything about Jewish or Muslim traditions that are specific to Ukraine?

    • @jplindsley
      @jplindsley  11 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Ukraine's Muslims are primary Crimean Tatars, who live in exile from their peninsular home--for the first time--all over the country. In exile they have opened great restaurants that are also cultural centres everywhere from Odesa to Lviv to Kyiv where they share the food, hospitality, and cuisine of Crimea--and perhaps surprisingly, the wine, which many of them produce. They have their governing council, the Mejlis, which sits in exile in Kyiv now and led by their traditional chief. // Ukraine's Jews, from Lviv to Odesa, contributed heavily to cuisine, music, and literature--some of the most beloved Israeli and Jewish dishes worldwide have Ukrainian roots. Lviv was once the largest Jewish population city in Europe, until the Holocaust. There are many haunting reminders of their presence, but few Jews left, their legacy recalled in the ruins of a synagogue and several popular cafés that evoke the 1920s golden days. Today you'll find more Jews in Odesa, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Dnipro--and the storied pilgrimage town of Uman, which the Russians often bomb and which every Rosh Hashanah draws tens of thousands of Jewish pilgrims from around the world. Modern Hebrew and early dreams for the state of Israel were developed in Odesa. The Ukraine born author of Fiddler on the Roof set his story in a Ukrainian village.
      Ukraine's musical Christian tradition is so woven into the cultural that many Crimeans-in-exile also feel a part of it--just as it is popular for many Christians to embrace Crimean music and musicians.
