I don’t see any grass haha 😂
Shane is waiting for smart grass to come out (jk, sure will grow some though the year)
great job on the new patio. liked that you included some of the construction and explained the wiring. and of course the smart home gadgets were pretty cool.
I always like the look of yard lights, like the way Philips hue advertises their yard lights on their website. having garden beds, trees, and the fence line lit up would be cool.
Great suggestion! I could definitely do something more in the yard. Thanks!
Nice setup! I’d recommended a Sonos set up for your speakers for sure. Congrats ion the new porch!
seconded on the Sonos! once you buy one...hold on to your wallet. they multiply like rabbits.
Definitely go with Sonos! You could go with an outdoor set on the walls and beam or arc soundbar for the tv. Also the move or roam for a portable option. Great home assistant plugin support too! PS - if you need any landscaping help hit me up, I’ll design you something nice and low maintenance ;)
This was a great video where we benefited from your foresight to document your progress along the way. I agree that the TV cabinet is easily the center point for the enclosed porch. As a touch of motivation, yes, I would love to see how the Nanoleaf lights work in your new backyard.
One simple recommendation: put an Eve Smartplug on the TV to see if it’s bleeding electrical use when the TV is off. I’ve added them to most of my home A/V equipment for that reason. Flic buttons and simple scenes control the set of plugs in each room so that’s it’s simple to turn them all on or off. With the TV being brand new and with Home connectivity, maybe they have better downtime electrical use management but that Eve plus will help you find out!
Your new backyard looks awesome. Congratulations on finishing this and thanks for inspiring us!
Thank you for the comment and suggestions. 😃
I was thinking of screening in our back porch. You took it to another level Shane!
Awesome video Shane! Thank you for sharing! Great job on the porch and backyard!
8:30 The benefit of having a dedicated HomePod/Apple TV for any specific area is that you only need to use the command “turn on/off the tv”. I like that feature. Now if they can develop a smart drone or laser skeeter killer!! Great setup Shane. I remember your earlier video of you installing smart lights over the old deck so this is definitely a step up. Enjoy the new space. ❤️💪😎👍❤️
Wow that was one of my very first videos. 😀 Thanks for watching all this time!
Great point for going with HomePod. My idea was actually doing Sonos, one of their portable models as you can take it to other areas of the yard if desired. And went on the porch leave it on its charging stand. We do this at home. I ended up adding a second roam because inevitably, the one on the porch seems to end up in other places as people use them.
My complaint with the HomePod is Apple recommends liming it to six or else they get glitchy. I’m at my six since I’m in a very large house.
Awesome setup! I am also using Yardian Pro. It's a perfect gadget for my lawn.
Great to hear!
Hey Shane! Awesome setup you got there. Speaker-wise, I’d say Sonos even more so since they have a portable subwoofer now. They are one of the few items which have not given me a hard time after 5 years. Cheers!
Thanks for the suggestion!
I’m coming over!!!
Medium rare steak please
Love the back yard bro!!! I have the Luba 1 but in jealous cause the 2 has that camera because I have a couple areas that I need to rescue the mower.
adding some plants to bring some life, maybe even smart grow plants
Great suggestion, thank you. I was actually just sitting out there today thinking about this. Some plants on the porch would be a great addition.
I’ve got drip irrigation ran to the hanging baskets on my porch as well as my front flowerbed and those are controlled with the Eve aqua. All of the neighbors comment on my plants every year because they get so huge with perfect consistent watering.
Absolutely killer setup. Love it man!
Thanks!! 😊
Super cool, what a transformation! Cheers to a fellow cigar aficionado!
Thanks and cheers!
This is nice. I just want the shades but the price **sheesh** haha
Omg that is all so Fkn cool. 😎. Haha. Luv it. Especially the tv box. Omg I so want one.
haha thanks for watching! 😃
Amazing set up. Maybe some external small fans that can hook up to the sides of the porch with some smart plugs should be helpful for those hot summers.
Looks nice! It’ll be interesting to see how well everything holds up after a few years outside. Are you planning to paint the patio shelter frame, or did you just water seal it? Any concerns about the screens holding up to wind?
Curious as to why the joists are parallel to the house and the deck boards are perpendicular to the house instead of the other way around. I don’t have my covered patio finished yet but around our pool I have the Sonance landscape speakers powered by Sonos amp. Once the covered patio is finished there will be Sonos speakers in the ceiling and if we’re in the pool I can have the landscape speakers playing whatever is on the projector. The one thing I will say about Sonos though is whenever I had my inside Sonos speakers set up in HomeKit they always would mess up. After reading a lot of online forums I decided to delete them from HomeKit and factory reset all of them and not add them back into HomeKit. They’ve been flawless ever since.
Pretty awesome! Love those SmartWings screens... wish I could justify the cost! You have a LOT of those in that space.
I talk about smart home stuff on TH-cam and my wife plants flower boxes for a living. Our budget? 1.8 billion. 😏
@@user-is7es My wife actually works full time. I also worked full time, while building my TH-cam channel for the past five years, until I was able to leave this year. 😉
Shane if you don't mind sharing, what was the cost of the screened porch, before you factor in the tech. I realize we probably live in different states but I really love the size and style layout. I've been wanting to do the exact same thing to my house.
Great job 🤩 By the way I could need a good craftsman 😜
All I can say is . . . . . Effing awesome! You can never have too many outlets 😂. The shades with anchor wires are absolutely clutch. Definitely use your energy to hang those new outdoor nanoleaf string lights, those are nice. I love the Govee pro outdoor lights . . . . But not there. Did you test a rope light? Another job well done Shane!
Thanks John!!
I did not test the Govee rope light but I plan to test some more of their products soon. 😀
Well done Shane… this is sick.
Shane, this is an awesome makeover! I don’t see the link for Nanoleaf string lights - are they not yet released?
I have 4 of the reolink cams on all 4 sides of my house
Great video! The new addition looks fantastic!!! Tell your beautiful wife “Hello!”
Thank you! Will do! 😃
Get a pair of Sonos speakers for stereo. I have had OG Sonos Play:1s mounted on my covered (roof only, open sides) deck for 10 years in the Pacific NW, and they have been great. Of course, now One/One SL or Era 100s will give you voice control and AirPlay. I recently added a Lifx light string to another part of the deck, not the matter one but HomeKit. I think it will work out great and doesn't disappear from my network like my Tuya stuff.
For sound - you could use WiiM Amp, a speaker selector switch and have speakers inside and out. It might not be able to drive both.
I was done when you showed your lawnmower. What is it supposed to cut lmao? 🤣🤣🤣
You gotta get your lawn fixed bro.
Awesome setup! What model TV did you go with? Not many HomeKit enabled TV models out there.
It's Vizio 4k 55". Got it on sale around Black Friday.
Can we see more on the Luba 2? Not a lot of great in-depth reviews for it yet.
a tour of the AJ Bell site would be good.
Awesome setup! You got some fun tech
Hi Shane, great set up! Do you think you could make a extra video about the installation of the smartwings?
I did a whole video installing Smart Wings shades indoors a while ago. You can find it here: th-cam.com/video/1GTjqAjlRF4/w-d-xo.html
Installation is about the same, minus the cables for the outdoor shades.
Awesome set up! how do you turn on/off the light of the ceiling fan using a regular dimmer? would the dimmer adjust the light or the fan speed? thnak
Thanks! The fan and light are wired separately. So the dimmer controls the light and the on/off switch controls the fan.
Hey Shane, great setup. How are you triggering the lights on gate opening? Contact sensor or similar?
Thanks for watching! Yes, I'm using contact sensors on the gate that I weatherproofed. Full video on that here: th-cam.com/video/4WY4aNWQcrc/w-d-xo.html
When are you going to be doing a review on the nano string lights? Looking for a good pair for my new house we are building.
Just put floor box outlet in the center.
Great video. Which TV did you get?
I went with a basic Vizio 4k TV since it has the native HK integration. And I've had a good experience with Vizio's HomeKit integration in the past.
9:40: What do I think? I think the Govee light strip would be distracting while watching TV. You should move it to the inside front of the box so it lights from the bottom but you don't see the flashing light strip in the background. 🤔
Might be worth a try. Thanks for the suggestion!
I’d definitely recommend some Sonos speakers for that room. Put a HP Mini and a few Era 100/300 in there, and you’re all set.
I don’t think those are suitable to withstand the elements outside though.
@@ShaneCreates good point. I know they teamed up with sonance to do an outdoor speaker, but I’m pretty sure those don’t work with airplay. Hmm …
I need a HomeKit thermometer for smoking briskets.
Looks awesome! What TV are you using that’s HomeKit compatible?
Thanks! This is a Vizio TV. I’ve found the HomeKit integration pretty reliable on the Vizios.
@@ShaneCreates Thanks for the replay! Your videos is what got me going with my humble but effective smart home. Keep it up!
@@curtiscorzine5718 That's awesome, thanks man! I appreciate the support!
It's beautiful Shane.
Touchy question on that mower: How does it handle dog excrement?
Thanks for watching! I always try to pick up before running the mower. Pretty sure it would just run it over.
@@ShaneCreates
Thanks. I know it sounds strange but, I pick up too. And somehow manage to miss some in my thick lawn. And when I run over it with the mower wheel, it tends to cake up the wheel and make a mess.
Don't get me started on the time I set the robo vac to clean while we weren't home and one of the dogs had an accident in the kitchen. It ran over it ok. But then tracked it into the living and dining rooms. What an absolute, smelly mess!
Looks great Shane. What tv is that?
Just a standard Vizio 55”.
Needs Sonos Outdoor Rated speakers...
It looks like your solar chargers for your blinds on the inside of your house next to the new covered patio are now "covered" up and won't be getting much light. What are your plans for those now? Could you have not run regular power to them while you were doing the electrical on the deck?
Seeing your video, I think a new grill may be in my future.
Good eye! Unfortunately a couple of those Switchbot Blind Tilt solar panels on the inside of the house now don't get enough sun. So I will just have to charge them the old fashioned way and plug them in every so often. I don't expect to have to charge them more than a couple times a year.
Thank you Shane. I see a moving fan icon on Home. How you get it because I am not able to find it. Thanking you in advance!
It's just the standard fan icon for any fan accessory in HomeKit
In ceiling speakers. 5.1, LCR lR, rR
The MEATER Bluetooth thermometer works well for grilling.
It does! Thanks for the comment. I actually meant to mention that for those who don't have a smart grill. The Meater app is fantastic.
Ooh might need to look at that. Integrates with Home Assistant too.
Why not use a stereo pair of 2nd Gen HomePods for sound? You can use them for music and set them up as speakers for the TV as well.
I would consider that, but I would not want to keep HomePods outside permanently. It’s a screened in porch, not a fully enclosed room, so it’s still susceptible to rain, humidity, heat, etc. I would need something that can handle the elements.

Sonos has speakers built for outdoor use.
@@ShaneCreates Didn’t take that fact into consideration that the area is still exposed to the elements. Would’ve been a nice setup if they could’ve been stored and mounted somehow on your outdoor TV riser box.
I think the only fully outdoor rated system would be Sonos.
@@graemequinn3710 Yea that's why Sonos is what came to mind for me also. I have seen some other nice outdoor systems recently that also support AirPlay, so maybe I'll look around.
I dont see the link for the blinds...
Should be in the video description, but here it is:
SmartWIngs - www.smartwingshome.com/?ref=46
Why not add two home pods in the box for the TV that raise with the TV?
That would be cool but I think I'd like some weatherproof speakers that can live outside of that cabinet. Lots of times I'll listen to music and not have a need to bring the tv out.
What on earth is going on with those stacked top plates...
You need to get some paint on those boards on the inside bro. It looks great, but honestly it looks unfinished without covering those. I know you won’t be offended by me pointing that out. Nice job though.😊
Thanks John. Was told not to paint or seal those up as it wouldn’t be good for them over time. The outsides are covered so they are white and looks more finished from the outside.
@@ShaneCreatesI get it, I hope you don’t think I was a dick for saying something. You could always put trim on top of them. Just trying to help, haha, maybe I shouldn’t open my mouth.
@@johnsills1 haha no man, I'm always open to suggestions and even criticism. That's the only way to learn.
I'm no expert in that area. Just going with what the builders told me because I did ask about that. They did a really good job I think, so I assume they know what's best. I just want it to last as long as possible.
Looks awesome. Happy for you guys. PLEASE hit that space with some good audio though! You can do Sonos if you want, have surround sound for your tv, whatever you feel like cuz there are a million ways to skin that cat. But being able to fire up some loud party music is definitely necessary.
Thank you! I think you’re right. That will probably have to be the next addition to the space. 😃
My backyard is a mess . Need to spend big money on it😢
Is that an e cigar?
e cigar? No. Just a regular old fashioned cigar. That's one of the few places I'll leave the tech out of it 😅. Although my lighter does have an AirTag in it. 😃
Why didn’t you wire speakers into the ceiling? Should put a smart lock on that outside door
I do have a smart lock on the back door. I’ve used a Level lock there and currently testing out the SwitchBot Lock Pro on that door.
I didn’t feel I needed built in speakers in the ceiling. Thought about it, but it wasn’t the highest on the list when considering the project budget and timeframe. Would probably rather have something portable that I can move around some.
@@ShaneCreates fair enough
