  • On November 2, hundreds of Midwest Airlines pilots, flight attendants, and their families greeted the crew of Midwest Airlines Flight 210 at MKE. This flight marked the end of Boeing 717 operations and the end of the legacy Midwest Airlines. ALPA pilots from Air Wisconsin, AirTran, Colgan, Continental, ExpressJet, and United were there to honor and support their Midwest union brothers and sisters who provided 25 years of the award-winning service that helped build the airlines reputation for the best care in the air.

I was a Captain for Midwest Airlines for over 22 years, I'm retired from flying now. Those were the best days of my flying life.I was given a wonderful gift from God to be apart of Midwest Express Airlines. Those days and the people I worked with are very special to me. !

It was the best care in the air. My dad also worked with them since 1993, I had my best flights on this airline. I miss it.

As a child I had the privilege of flying just one time with Midwest and have not had a better flight experience since. It was the cadillac of commercial flight experiences.

I flew them every week for 5 years. Coincidentally shortly after I left that position, it wasn't even a year later that they ceased operations.
The announcement had already been made that they were ceasing operations and there were many on my last flight that knew that was our last time on that airline and it was a very sad sad sad day indeed.. I actually cried...

;( I miss working for Midwest Express. I went on to work for Southwest, and they just didn't measure up for me. WE were a family.

I worked for Midwest Express from June of 2000 thru July of 2001 as a mechanic. I really enjoyed working for the airline. Was quite surprised that a small airline was doing its own heavy checks. Does anyone commenting here remember the CEO Tim Hoeskema coming to the maintenance hangar to talk to the employees about the current business environment? This would have been during the 2000 recession. During this talk he compared Midwest to the Titanic, “Only that we’ve seen the iceberg and have time to turn”. There were probably at least over a hundred people in the hangar that morning. I am fairly sure I did not imagine it. All I know is that mechanics started sending resumes out that week. I think this happened in the spring of 2001. Would appreciate it if someone could back up my recollection of this.

Yes-Timmy & his alter ego Jimmy Marks did in fact come to the hangar & give such a speech-I made it just shy of 5 years there in Heavy check-saw the handwriting on the wall summer '03 & left in Sept. '03. Was fortuitous-I was # 226 out of 498 & the MX staff got cut to under 150 by Dec. '03. Sad-was a good little airline-lot of good folks there as well.

Cpt Tony....I had friends at YX that said it was horrible going up to the gate and watching that last flight. Another friend's husband was the captain on the next to last flight. All of them said "I hope you never have to go through this" I have never forgotten that after almost 36 years in the industry.

If this doesn’t break your heart then I question your humanity. I served with you all at YX for just a short time in 99-00 but I felt the pride.

No it’s not. I really wish it would have but it doesnt look like it. That being said Milwaukee airport is really going under after the loss of Midwest Express. Nowadays you cant even get any nonstop flights out of there anymore. Losing Midwest basically was the end of the large scale flying from MKE. Now everything is Chicago.

They were fantastic, it made me emotional to see this. I flew them yearly to see friends in family in Milwaukee from Orlando.. Memories that will last for eternity!

This made me emotional too. I loved this airline--they truly were the best care in the air. I flew with them faithfully --mainly for business on a weekly basis for 3 years. I was thinking of them today--for some reason the jingle was in my head so I came here.

This is truly emotional. I never flew Midwest but seeing their jets in Milwaukee and the culture was magnificent and something truly special. I look on at that blue and gold wing and wish it kept going. I hate how the industry rewards the lowest bidder, the only reason I couldn't fly them was mom wasn't going to connect in Kansas City. God bless Midwest and may they be remembered eternally as a hallmark of airline excellence.

And it's finally back! It's not a cheap ticket and is currently on a minuscule list of locations compared to it's former glory, but perhaps it will expand as people realize just how good we had it roughly just a decade ago. Flying domestically nowadays (2020) is absolutely tortuous. WELCOME BACK, MIDWEST EXPRESS! You truly are "The Best Care In The Air"!
