Thanks for sharing. It's useful when you add an extra USB ethernet to PVE. But at 2:27, you have 1 on-board ethernet active, 3 not active. How can you make other on-board ethernet ports active? (I connected the 4th ethernet port to a router and it blinked but not active)
I appreciate the video. It is important to mention that it is recommended to use the Proxmox Web console when creating any of the items like (bridges, VLANS, bonds, etc.). The main reason is that Proxmox does not like more than one gateway. The gateway is to the entire instance itself not each "network" created for the virtualized components (e.g. container or VMs). If using the web console, it will not accept the other gateway.
Thanks again!! Wow- i'm trying to learn all this stuff as a newbie. So much stuff out there that speaks over your head!! You are straight forward and to the point. Hope you hit 100K ;) I am having an issue though. I added an additional 1Gb Nic. and 1 T M.2 SSD. I can see the Nic, but not the new SSD. When i go into BIOS, I see that RAID is selected. When i switch it to AHCL? anyhow, the new NIC becomes default which makes the server not connect to my network - not sure exactly what is going on there. Short of wiping everything and starting all over (not a problem btw) any thought?
@@markdickey7807 thank you! do you see the drive showing at all in the disks session in proxmox? if you in the shell run lsblk and see if you see it in there. im guessing its a new drive so if proxmox sees it you need to initialize it so it can be used of course if it sees it. for the nic you need to assign it an address and gateway. not sure if you did that already but that would be the steps. if you dont see it in the portal go into the shell and run cat /etc/network/interfaces i believe it is and see if the nic is listed in there
i ended up starting over and recreating server without RAID. Verified the culprit - it was assigning network to the new NIC (port tied at switch to vlan41) but had the gateway tied to another vlan gateway. all working now. would love a more indepth look at actual connecting through wireguard. I think i have my port opened... but not sure how to use it on user end@@BarmineTech
One thing you don't mention, and what might be a result of you using an USB drive is that the name of your main adapter (eno1) did not change. On two machines where I plugged in a 10Gb network card (a different one on each) after installing proxmox, this caused the main adapter name to change. In one case from enp3s0 to enp4s0, while the (dual) 10Gb card got the names enp1s0f0 and enp1s0f1. I think this was because they are both on the PCI bus, whereas your USB-ethernet adapter is not and doesn't affect PCI enumeration. After inserting and restarting there was no working bridge, couldn't login via the web GUI, and I had to connect keyboard and display to login, use 'ip addr' to see the new name of the adapater and then edit /etc/network/interfaces to update the name (in two places). In the end I used that method as well for switching to using the 10Gb card on one machine, but used the System->Network entry in the GUI to change the other.
Any idea on how to update the TP-Link UE306 driver? My small server doesnt see the adaptor when I plug it in. Pretty sure the Bios has the USB ports up as thats how I loaded ProxMox.
Shot in the dark to ask but when adding and resetting proxmox just to be sure, the new bridge is listed as active yes but the device is still active no. Any ideas?
Great video and content. Subscribed. I wan to add a new 2.5GbE network adapter to my PVE server and completely remove/disable the current 1G NIC. When adding the new NIC, can I enter the same IP Info of the original NIC since that one won’t be used anymore? Also, the new NIC is a PCIE. Do I have to pass though it? Thanks
if you want to pass it through to a machine you can just add it as a nic i. the hardware section on the virtual machine if you check out this video i show how to add it to a machine like pfsense for use. th-cam.com/video/N52jyCStnh8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qIzUxWceeBLGH_c_ hope this helps
We just switched to proxmox at work. Out of no where my certificate stopped being recognized and I would have to wait 2 days for support to get in touch. Your video saved my ass brother. Bookmarked. For some reason my node fails over to the VM internal network that isnt external facing and wont switch back. So I have to remove and rebuild it. Thank you!
thanks needed to add a 10Gbe card and kept getting errors, follow your steps and worked like a charm. Now have a new Linux Bridge for my 10Gbe network.
I appreciate the docs in Github, that earned a sub from me. Been a dev for decades but stayed in the windows lane and am forcing myself to try linux stuff for the first time since slackware was a thing. Thank you.
What is life? It's 3AM and I'm learning Proxmox Networking with Marcus Aurelius
Is your biz partnered up yet? Because my business would love to partner with yours and build some proxmox ML applications!
Nicely done. Straight forward. Thanks for that. No fluff. Just the necessary stuff.
save me!! Thanks
How to know which gateway to put to new NIC ? I have 192.168.1.1 so I cant put it to a new nic..

I finally made it. I need to reboot the PVE and the 4th ethernet is active. I thought "ifreload -a" can do the trick without reboot but not. :)
brother help, im new on this stuff with network management I just install my proxmox and i can't use web GUI, how do i fix this ?
are you able to ssh into the promox host? if you can you should be able to hit the port at proxmoxip:8006
Most excellent, to the point and easily memorable!
Cheers bud, this helped out with my servers. All 4 nics working appreciate the help
No problem 👍
Thanks Barmine, finally i managed after many attempts to configure Proxmox on zimaboard and two LANs. Thanks for the advice and links, great job.
Thanks, your video helped me figure out how to switch to the new card (i.e. not add another bridge). Really appreciate the video!

basically i want to be able to use 2 NICS (seperate ports on switch tied to seperate VLANS) and both my SSDs. 256Gb SSD and 1 Terabyte M.2 SSD

Useful stuff thanks have a 2.5gb usb want to add so wil use ur guide thanks
Thanks u sir I misk piruiod
So I *know* every says to use wired, but in my current house it's just not possible.
Would this work to use the wireless NIC on a laptop?
a wireless nic should work but you may run into bandwidth issues depending on how much network traffic you have and what the nic is capable of
@@BarmineTech I'm up for trying anyway. Appreciate it because I will def be using this tutorial for sure!

my usb interfaces works without adding any IP4 CIDR settings, they are all blank, do I still need to add them?
Looks like fun, I will be experimenting with Proxmox soon. Thanks for the tutorial.
Hope you enjoy it!
very good video many thanks will watch the proxmox video i want to do the same thing A+++
