This is a wonderful tune. I would love to see a performance of Treemonisha and "The Univited Guest" by Joplin. He was an amazing composer. I love this opera.
You probably mean "A Guest of Honor" which was Joplin's first opera. He called it a ragtime opera as opposed to Treemonisha, which he referred to as a folk opera. Unfortunately, no copies of "Guest" exist, and it's considered lost.
Why this piece languished in obscurity for so long is one of music's great tragedies. Such great entertainment, beauty, and truth.
it's GREAT from beginning to END... some REALLY sweet heart felt moments... I say exactly what you say... why isn't this more popular...

This brings back memories of my college theatre days! We performed this and I played Monisha. It was so much fun!

This is from 1975 in Houston. But I think they're using Gunther Schuller's orchestation.
