    Hi Tomlin. After listening to yourself playing the Scales, I realise that's why I do not sound so crash at a Blues Sound. The music from playing the Triplets really hit home. This is where it's at, those quick succesion of notes within one beat...mmm yes please. Thanks again for your videos. Cheers.

    Great lesson Tomlin. I do play scales every day, but hadn't thought about incorporating the metronome in such a systematic way. One thing I do also is to spend a short amount of time first with a tuner and make sure I am hitting the bends, especially on the three draw. I know that I want to develop my ear to the point I can hear this (and I'm getting closer all the time), but think for my learning style this is helpful. Do you think this is a good idea?

      You’ve got me looking for tuner apps now, Rich. Do you use an app or the real thing? Any recommendations?

      Not Wilson Hi, I mostly use a Korg tuner, but I also have an app on my iPad and iPhone that works well called Pano Tuner. I don’t know if it’s better than other apps, but it works well and was free.

    Tomlin ...I am up to 75 bpm with my triplets...started off at 60 bpm...I work that for two weeks and if it sounds good I
    increase my metronome by five bpm ...so six weeks later I am now at 75bpm...also I like your inside out blues scale we do
    in your intermediate course...
    everyone that reads this ....I have been taking lessons at Tomlin’s school for ..22 months.....I cannot say enough about how GREAT THE SCHOOL IS...I am not a big fan of blowing smoke up someone’s butt ...THE SCHOOLS AWESOME...peace

    I feel like I have seen the teacher - scales! But that is the point. Key message from Tomlin. It ain't all glory. Sometimes there needs to be a bit of hard work. Do you reckon there are any legend guitarist who didn't drive themselves and everyone else crazy with scales? Doubt it. So I'm gonna do some scales. Thanks for the grounding Tomlin.

    Best harp teacher on TH-cam! I’m learning how to bend. Do you recommend practicing bending with a single hole until I get it down or should I practice on each hole a little at a time? Thanks Tomlin

      HI Mike, I would recommend getting one hole pretty good before jumping around to other holes. Most people find the 4 hole bend the easiest to start with.

    Hi, I just started harmonica a few weeks ago and my six draw is lower than my six blow. Could that be something to do with having a different harp, because I bought mine without the key so I don't know what key it is. I think it might be a C harp, but I'm not sure. Can you help me out?

    Good lesson. I like how, in a previous lesson, you introduced the G blues scale (as played in 2nd pos on a C harp). It's a great sounding scale to play around in. However, I think most of what I want to play is 1st position and have some nice harps for that - my question is why do seemingly 99% of all youtube videos have harps being played in 2nd position? Also, doesn't bending shorten the life of the reeds? I don't want to replace my harmonicas every year or two.

    • @bertwerbrouck
      @bertwerbrouck 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      bending has nothing to do with shortening the life of the reeds. Putting to much stress on them does.

    • @TomlinHarmonica
      @TomlinHarmonica  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Pál - glad you are enjoying the lessons. Great question! Bertrand is absolutely correct in that bending won't shorten the life of the reeds but playing with too much air pressure will. You might need to replace reeds every once in a while. If you have nice harmonicas it doesn't cost too much to get them tuned and have reeds replaced. Nothing lasts forever....

    • @PalKrammer
      @PalKrammer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TomlinHarmonica OK - now I understand that it's too much air pressure which can cause damage to the reeds. Thanks!

      @CPerreault 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Craig, don't get discouraged. Maybe go to the lessons for practicing your bends first. It's also very important to learn to isolate your notes. I'm not certain what your skill level is so far so please forgive me if this is not good advice. Once you are comfortable bending the required notes you can then come back to this lesson. Just a thought.
