Mac Miller loved making music. However, his first mainstream album Blue Slide Park received heavy criticism and he took it really harshly. Also he had lost friends who were just using him for money and weed, lost his girlfriend. He started experimenting with heavy drugs which caused him to isolate and fall into a heavy depression that he went through for years. He felt like he would never be good enough. Even though he was the most talented artist I've ever heard. He just couldn't see his own talent through his anxiety and self doubt.

This mixtape originally had 24 tracks, to signify 1 full day, the rising and setting sun, day turns to night. Technically this is a bonus track basically saying its darkest before dawn. Check out 25th hour by spike lee. Also 25 signifys Xmas, jesus being the personification of vanity.
This song is EXTREMELY underrated in my opinion. This and Good News are two of Mac's best tracks ever.

I'm pretty sure its underrated because it kinda came out of nowhere. I wouldn't even know the song existed if I didn't randomly learn that faces was coming on streaming platforms and I saw there was an extra song
@@dre27321 It was originally an unreleased track that was leaked called 8:21am, was a hidden gem for years then I couldn’t find it one day. Two weeks later they put Faces on streaming media with the track with a new name.
in the first week of faces re-release i listened to it 52 times according to apple music lmao
Can’t go wrong with diving into Mac Miller’s music. Incredible depth from a personal and philosophical perspective. Favorite artist - I have him tattooed on my skin for the rest of my life 🤙🏽

You know ive been listening to mac for 4 years straight now, and when Faces re released i was surprised, i didn’t know mac made this album back in the day, and before faces came out there was a song called colors and shape, and that song was my get away when life was confusing and getting dark, but when i first heard colors and shapes i was drawn in, the beat and melody, the lyrics were perfect in every shape and form. I fell in love with that song and i still use it to help me a lot of the times

His whole Faces 'mixtape' is gold but pretty dark. If I could make 1 suggestion, check out 'The Star Room (OG version)' it's produced by Earl Sweatshirt or check out both versions in 1 video. They're basically the same song but 2 whole different vibes. Much love from Belgium!

When he talks about needing danger, I think he’s saying he needs something to really scare him to wake him up and get out of his troubling habits. He’s been doing things that are risky, but there haven’t been any real consequences. In an interview, he even talked about feeling invincible because he never had a bad ending where he didn’t make it out okay (up until that point).

I have to sneak this one in too... 'Grandpa Used To Carry A Flask'. It's from a mixtape I had on repeat at night on one off my darkest days ever a couple years ago when I was drinking vodka all day & started mixing it with prescribed valiums & painkillers. I wasn't on this earth anymore but somehow forgot to die... I thought this was it when I looked in the mirror & falling all over the place with that mixtape in the background, scared to fall asleep... But long story short, after many relapses, hospital intakes, 2 recovery programs (which didn't work for me), I'm off alcohol for 3 months today. I'm still taking benzo's or I wouldn't be here today but way less than I used too. Warning though, the song & tape are very nihilistic...

I think the best song are the ones that leave enough information out that any listener will here a story as if it were written for them. Today is th÷ ee first time hearingvMac Miller, thanks to Reaction Therapy. The is a lot of talent in the three songs Iheard really wish I didn't miss this music when it was new. Thanks to this channle I'm finding so much great music. Keep up the good work Tom and Nick! Music is my therapy and my drug, but my therapist is good with that.

IMO since his girl left him. won't say who though most of us if not all of us know who I'm talking about. Since she left him, He turned to his other "girl" which would be drugs and in the song he refers to the drugs as "the girl named danger". Kinda' sounds like a stretch but Mac is clever artist like that and if you go back and listen you might hear what I hear.

I'm confused...as a psychotherapist shouldn't you be encouraged by a person's mindfulness and ability to bring word and light to these thoughts and feelings, and the healing strength and vulnerability in sharing that with the world, helping so many others...seems like a beautiful thing to me. Are depressed people supposed to go be quiet and not get our icky depression thoughts on you when your off the check, I mean off the clock? All due respect. Just struck me as odd to shame the darkness from a therapist standpoint. 🌈💖✌️ Still it's cool that you want people to focus on the good in life. There's plenty more Mac for you to explore, def try swimming and circles if you haven't.
