Fantasia and the Fantasia X album are often underrated. It was a hard time for the fandom because it was the first comeback without Wonho. But you can definitely see how much effort the guys put in to make sure we wouldn't feel they were lacking. The dance is incredibly difficult and I've yet to see it covered correctly. There's this insane kick and slide combo that baffles me.
MX are the pioneers of noise music and they did it RIGHT.
They had 5 dollars, a dream and one chance and they delivered HERO hahaha!
Beautiful is part of the lore from monsta x "the x clan" and fun fact... fantasia has one of the most intense choreos EVER, they never performed it again because of that, but the stages from this era were everything.
When they started they didn't have many resources, that's why you should see No Mercy, and they didn't have a smartphone until they won their first award in musical Shows, and that was with Dramarama, you should see that presentation.
Important fact about Hero, Wonho is afraid of heights, he had to take medication to calm his anxiety,
Important fact about Fantasia, Jooheon was returning from a hiatus due to anxiety and it was his first MV and official Comeback as a 6 member.
Hero was very successful and its a famous song in Kpop but bc it wasn’t a title track they didn’t get any awards for it

Fantasia is forever Queen among Monsta x's title tracks and one of my ult song along with gambler. It was the first comeback after wonho left and Jooheon hiatus, so the song basically about them stay strong and back on a roll in kpop industry after experienced trains of hate attacks, their synergy as a team, nothing's gonna stop them (it shows in minhyuk scene where lot of hands trying to grab him down). We're trying to cheer and hype up the boys throughout that year❤
Unfortunately this comeback was when corona started, so they never perform it on concert 😭

Yeah they used to have a delinquent-esque image up until Beautiful comeback. Understandable since No.mercy leaned into the hip-hop concept and SSE housed rappers like Giriboy and Mad Clown. But then you get to know them off stage, they're wholesome and harmless 😂
Fantasia was the first cb without Wonho so it felt more like a revenge song for the hater and that they're here to stay bc the visuals were popping off and the song was HARD.
Oh! If you like noise music, just wait till you hear Sambakja, Fallin', Zone and Rodeo. Monsta X makes bloody good concert bangers, the rave type music.
Yes Fantasia is everything live the choreography the outfits were all custom made for them dont know it was the most exciting era cuz people assumed they were going down as a group with everything that was happening at that time
Fantasia really cemented my admiration and respect for Kihyun cause that man never fails to sing his parts out loud stably while dancing to one of mx's most exhausting choreo. He even has a solo dance while belting those high notes, like he couldve lipsynced and everyone wouldve understood but he said NOPE my mic is ON!! Even I get exhausted in their stead every time I watch their performances for fantasia T_T
They even tried to sing this in spanish on hello82 on youtube and they even played the telephone game in spanish too! They were super extra and hilarious, you NEED to watch it sometime!
If you're going through their title tracks, there's a few that you're missing: follow and shine forever. Stuck and play it cool arent title tracks but they got mvs! For their japanese albums, there are x-phenomenon (love how rapline centric this song is), livin it up and wanted. For more of their time travel lore, there are 'find you' and 'the connect music film' to watch! Im pretty sure im missing something but im sure other comments will add some more recs :)

They know how to make a song powerful and melodic at the same time, that's their signature for me. Coming from a hard rock/heavy metal background, I appreciate the aggression in their music so much, but I wouldn't like it without the beautiful melodies and the amazing vocal performance (singing and rap). This is the magic power/symphonic heavy metal has for me , and these guys do the same, just in another genre. They give me hard hitting melodic songs I can also dance to!! I love them!

before i discovered mx i used to listen to mostly rock as well and never vibed with this type of sound, i would think its trashy. but then came along monsta x and they made me love noise music and edm. an esquisite blend of both worlds topped by their strong vocals sometimes mixed in with beautiful tones and hues of rnb and hiphop.
its mostly kihyun who give me that classic rock chorus feels but sometimes jooheon and the old raspier hoseok as well and changkyun in that switched fighter 😂. monsta x has created their own unique timeless genre so for me they are always the standard. when other groups approach this genre, most of the times they fall flat and poorly delievered and bring back that unpleasent atmosphere of trashy (sorry im not sorry).

" In time" & "Find You" years later. "Misbehave" and "The Dreaming" from their English albums. Are just gorgeous.
I think the most important Korean MV's that you're still missing would be "Stuck", "Newton", "Shine Forever", "Find You" and "Follow"!
And then for the english tracks "Play It Cool" feat Steve Aoki, "Who Do You Love", "Middle Of The Night", "You Can't Hold My Heart", "One Day", "You Problem" and "Whispers In The Dark" (I went from oldest to most recent with all of these)
There still might be some missing and I also left out japanese mv's for now. Plus there's also a lot of solo stuff!

'Hero' and 'Beautiful' are my first MX songs and MV's aka the songs from them that caught my attention. I just love both the melody, beats and lyrics 😊 Ah also, you need to see the acoustic version of 'Beautiful' it'll hit you right in the feels 🥹

I believe you have Follow and Shine Forever to finish the title tracks for korean songs. There are also special clips and self cams to dive into before albums although they are bsides so how about listening to the albums and watch the videos if they have clips or self cams? or u can do whatever u want, i am down for anything anyway lol

Hero is the first video I saw from them ❤ it had come out like that week and I've been with them ever since. Because it was so near the beginning, there was basically no content so I probably watched it at least 1,000 times while I was trying to learn all their names. It has a special place in my heart ❤
Oh also sorta fun fact but Hero was so popular that they performed it like ALL the time for a long time and they admitted they hated it for a while because of that. They don't any more of course it's been so long lol
Fantasia was actually so great. My understanding of it is:
It was their first comeback without Wonho and they had lost fans and people were speculating they weren't gonna survive as a group. And then they came out with Fantasia. It's all about how they are coming back, they are still strong, they will make it no matter what the haters are saying or how they try to bring them down. So the interpretive dancers kinda represent their haters and competitors like reaching for them but them basically saying 'no, we're untouchable, we're on another level'

My favorite English song is one day. I've listened to that song so much, and it's the reason why I got into monsta x. Now they are an ult group and I have 3 ults(i.m, joohoney,and minhyuk)and bias the rest of the group lol def check the mv for it! Tbh the whole the dreaming album is fantastic. You problem is also on that album and has a mv. ❤

hero is just a bside from the same album as rush and it was made into a special clip, they do special clips for bsides like unofficial mvs lmao but somehow that hero clip has the most views over 100M. not even other title track has crossed over the 100M line yet

Poor Wonho doing Hero was not easy for him and yes he had to take medication to be up there . Also in future series when there doing different challenges you will see how scared he is off heights but at the same time our little bunny is brave . Beautiful for me is one of my favourite tracks and fantasia for different reasons it’s the first come back without Wonho which was sad but also Joohoney come back after his hiatus so for me it’s happy and sad still to this day when I here it . I’m really enjoying your reaction and so glad you’re giving us so much content .
So yes they where actually up that high in hero lol. Wonho is deathly scared of heights. And the time he can only go up high is if he has to because of a challenge and he will show you how scared he is. Or in this one they had to give him anxiety medication for it. To make sure he was able to do it. I saw them in 2019 but before our wonho left and they did this song and the background was like Mario type lol they been performing this for so long because it’s very popular.
Beautiful is the last song in the trilogy of all in and fighter.
And I know what you mean with hyungwon attacking you on the live stages you watch. He was already my ult bias and I saw them live and seeing him so close with his iconic long dark hair oh my gosh he’s so handsome in person. They all are. For me the way they look on mv or anything it’s so different that seeing them in person. They can make you drop your jaw 😂

The random guy thay turns up at the petrol station in Rush was Giriboy. He is a rapper and was involved in a lot of their earlier music releases. He was also a guest judge on the survival show No Mercy which is the show they all competed in to become Monsta X. You need to watch No Mercy, its intense.

Of the korean title tracks your missing Shine Forever and Follow. Follow is the last cb with Wonho. He left right after the release. The stages of that comeback really hurt to watch because all the bad feelings come back. The boys and also we as fans went through a lot during that time.. The first one without Wonho (which was basically just the next day after everything happened) is definitely the worst one to watch. You can clearly see the sadness, frustration, anger and exhaustion in their faces..

Yeah, Monsta X really goes above and beyond as performers. Wonho is terrified of heights, but did the Hero MV and bungee jumped off a building in Monsta X Right Now (One of the early variety shows they did) and Kihyun started doing running to ensure that he would have the stamina to sing and do choreography at the same time.
I can't tell you how much I love Rush ahahahaha, that song has stood the test of time for me lol.

I love the original version of Hero and listen to it all the time, but I do think I listen to the broadcasting version a bit more, it’s more heavily dubstep lol

I loooove the drums in Fantasia! In the MV, the dancers and the news and hands reaching all basically represent the rumors flying around and people that tried to drag them down. The dancers collapse at the end while MX are still standing. If I remember correctly Fantasia was a contender to be the title track for the previous album instead, but they went for Follow and saved Fantasia. They actually have performed it multiple times, including a few concerts. One of my favorites is the stage they performed with Cravity for the 2020 MBC Music Festival!

You caught it! One of the things I love about MONSTA X, is that since the beginning, what they sing and no matter the language they sing in, no matter how many years go by, you can still hear its THEM, its THEIR sound and style. They are staying true to their musical DNA, even though their debut and style weren't exactly the mainstream, they still stuck with it. MONSTA X is kinda like a kpop rebel group. When they accepted the sexy sound, that is 3rd gen, they were like; 'Okay, we'll do it, but we'll do it OUR way.' And they turned the sexiness of 3rd gen up to a bold 200% 😅 Also, their english tracks... its like; 'This is kinda inappropriate, we can't sing about in the proper South Korea... so, let's sing it in English! They'll never know.' 😜
I love groups, just going against the mainstream, not wanting to give up their sound for popularity. I feel like groups like ATEEZ are like this too and SUPER JUNIOR, with whom there's no doubt, despite active through two generations, whenever they release new music, you can just hear it's them ☺️😊

I agree that Fantasia will be great at concert, but so far I think they haven't done it. they said the dance was too hard it makes their legs give up after that one song. 😂
Fantasia was the first release after their long hiatus after wonho left. some ppl thought they were going downhill with their career, but they didn't, that was why they wanted to come back as strong as possible to shut those haters up. the hands that were trying to reach minhyuk symbolized those ppl and their mean comments. and also the dancers i think symbolized bad energies. that's why in the end you can see that the dancers collapsed and they stand tall on the stage.
I think I'd recommend Shine Forever, Stuck, and I Got Love (self-cam).
maybe you also want to check out their year-end award performances (golden disk one is legendary), but I'm not sure if it's possible to be uploaded here. but you can always enjoy them by yourself 😁

I love these songs! Fantasia is one of their hardest choreography, they do try not to do it as they’ve collapsed after doing it. Watch a dance practice and you’ll see.
Also them in concert is a soul lifting experience. They came back in 2022 to Atlanta and I got to see them. I couldn’t sleep for 2 hrs despite exhaustion because I was so hyped up.
And visuals always on point. Not gonna lie though, I expected some hair twirling at a few points between Joohoney and Kihyun’s looks. You got close. 😂

All of these songs (with the exception of RUSH sorry) have such a special place in my heart. Hero was the very first Monsta X I ever heard and they hooked me with it. Beautiful was my first official comeback as a monbebe and I nearly lost my mind. (I became a monbebe some time just after Fighter promotions ended.) And Fantasia at the time, felt like a reassurance that after all the BS of 2019 Monsta X wasn't ever going away and they were stronger now more than they were ever before. And now Fantasia is one of my favorite title tracks.

The FANTASIA MV is literally supposed to represent fantasy and idolisation, they have male (topless) and female dancers writhing and dancing in a way that comes off as both worshipful, frenzied... and dare I say semi erotic... The costuming and colouring/lighting and the filters used are there to build a fantasy realm, it switches between something that looks like a period piece of wealthy socialites/royalty, to a fairytale, to an old western (cowboy theme) They literally say, "let me be your fantasy, let me give you what you need" but it also has that edge that the person idolising them can also be a bit scary always reaching for them, wanting from them, constantly surrounding them, and could easily destroy/harm them as much as they could love them, because being something to fantasise about is not the only thing the song is exploring, it was their first comeback after Wonho left the group and they had lost a lot of fans due to the controversy surrounding it all, they all suffered a lot during this time. The lyrics are truly about not giving up, fighting their own fears of fame and the constant pressure of being an idol, and pushing forward no matter what, and coming back stronger and doing it for the passion of the music and the real fans. I.M is even holding a news paper that is now on fire, to represent the harm of gossip and the complicity of the media.. there is a LOT of symbolism in their MVs, but you have to know their concepts and their story, both as artists and people to know what you're looking at... FANTASIA was a lot different to a majority of their music up until that point sound wise, with maybe the exception of FOLLOW, but where FOLLOW has a more Korean/EDM edge, FANTASIA explores a more Latin/EDM edge.
PS: It was also an end of the way they had done things before, although that entire mini album is very EDM heavy, they still attempted to maintain the old structure of things when the group was 7, except you had Kihyun and Shownu working overtime vocally (because they would normally have another lead vocal) Starship learned that Monbebe's wanted things to change (as we had always) and to actually give Hyungwon and Minhyuk a fairer distribution of lines, and for once they listened - so starting from Fatal Love (the incredible album that followed) you see a new era, where there really don't seem to be set positions per se anymore, it's more evenly spread and fluid and the magic of what they would become as 6 really and truly set in
