A.K.A: What happens when a VHS tape is run over by a train and barely survives.
Actually this comes from a tape that while I was transferring, started to shed, as this is from a 1980s BASF T-120. Thankfully, most of the tape played well, but near the end, it started to play just like this.

Oddly, this is how Skinemax looked on our cable box, since we weren't subscribed to it!

huh, usually BASF tapes are known for not shedding, since they had more binder than most other tapes at the time
    maybe this one was defective?

Usually, most BASF tapes from the mid-80's suffered from very bad tape formulation that resulted in the tape coming apart from the plastic. The only other tape that did anything similar to this was Ampex tape. BASF tape did improve greatly by the early-90's, though.

BASF and Ampex used similar stock and shell design too, so it's really common for these types of tapes to shed. I had a BASF tape that shed a lot worse once I popped it in.

@@VancesMediaTreasures I've heard a lot of horror stories about Ampex brand anything, same with Agfa & I think some kinds of 3M tape from around that time as well
