Extraordinaire clarinettiste ce Pete Fountain. Très belle et unique sonorité; Le phrasé est parfait. Un petit regret quand même pour un tempo qui augmente régulièrement ... Merci pour cette vidéo
At 1.12 you can clearly see a closeup of Pete's legendary glass mouthpiece. It was given to him by a friend and it is one of the reasons that Pete produced such a pure liquid tone.
Oh yeah, that glass mouthpiece! I was a teenage aspiring clarinet player in the late '50s and loved Pete ! I was the only kid in our high school band who had a glass clarinet mouthpiece! It was my second one as I learned from the first you had to be very careful with them. I accidentally hit the first lightly with my tooth and it immediately chipped. Oops.
Thanks for posting this erwigfilms - I had the whole show on VHS somebody copied off PBS broadcast but quality was very bad - do you have the rest of the show or more tunes from it? I seem to recall they played After You're Gone (Gimble's solo was HOT!!!) 'Just A Closer Walk' and 'Amazing Grace' all of which featured Gimble. Guitarist Lloyd Ellis took some amazing guitar rides on the show too - he was a good friend of Tiny Moore's from Texas. Hope you have more - and Thanks again!
Bob Wills was no spokesman for Western Swing. The Institution he was speaking of was HIS own brand of music best described as 'Bob Wills music' played by His Texas Playboys band! Western Swing takes in a wide swath of people the majority of which couldn't SWING like Gimble or Fountain, much less ever play with Bob Wills. Especially in his heyday from the mid-30's-mid-50's! Other WS peeps were never in this league: Not Milton, Spade, Ole, Hank or anyone else.
Pete and the clarinet were made for each other. His tone was full and rich. There will never be another like Pete fountain.
I was in the audience for this one! Unforgettable!
He brought happiness to so many millions and millions of people. One of the true treasures of the music world.
Posts of Pete playing are so great to hear, especially since his passing. Miss him big time, but thanks to youtube and posters his music will live on.
Good is too small a word to use here...awsome sauce...musical gem. Show and tell it all.
This particular interpretation is clearly shows me Pete's love to this great country.... He did love this country of ours, guys!
Two of my musical heroes!

BTW, 63 years later I still have the container that first mouthpiece came in. I can't find my car keys but I can always find that!

wow
He influenced Johnny Gimble and Jimmy Bryant.
And Bob Wills said the "Institution" of Western Swing will have no straight jackets! This is the example!
