Dima, there’s no rule that attackers suffer more casualties than defenders. If that were the case then the Germans would have suffered more casualties than the Soviets in the first half of WWII and the Americans would have suffered more casualties than the Iraqis and Afghanis, as well as countless other historical examples.
There’s a lot of factors that determine which side likely suffers more casualties. These include factors such as quality and quantity of fire power, troop strengths, ratios, training and experience, morale, available cover, terrain, leadership, tactics, communications, operational planning and practice, etc. Attacking vs defending just isn’t even on the list.
If you’re thinking of the common mantra of the 3:1 ratio, it has nothing to do with casualties but is rather an oversimplified benchmark for the manpower ratio requirement for a successful attack.
Right, we can't just reference a generic statistic for every encounter in warfare from past wars, we have to judge the situation as it exists in reality. In this conflict for example, one side (Russia) has the overwhelming firepower and logistics advantage but the other side (Ukraine) has enough modern technology (drones, anti-armor weapons and constant western intelligence assistance) to prevent the Russians from concentrating forces. That lack of concentration of armor for punching through enemy lines means that forces get spread out and generally don't overwhelm the other in pure numbers at the line, instead Russia uses manpower advantages for the purposes of rotations and saving units and manpower so that experience and organization and morale stays high while the Ukrainians get slowly overwhelmed with long-distance firepower from the Russian side. So it's positional warfare that is more about endurance than quick successes.

No, there is no logic in Urkainians having fewer losses than Russians. The military wisdom says you need to have a 3:1 advantage to attack, it does not mean you will have x3 losses. Russia has an overwhelming firepower advantage, Ukrainians cannot hold ground and often retreat through fields, under fire. Or get surrounded and destroyed. So, no, "Ukraine defending" does not automatically mean they have fewer losses. The side that is stronger, better trained, better equipped and better supplied has fewer losses.

I can justify my skepticism: Russia has industrial capacity to manufacture scores of drones and does so, and you can see that on the battleground. Considering that China has stopped selling its drones, the 1:3 ratio is ludicrous. Ukraine USED to have drone advantage 3 years ago. That was true back then, but things have changed oh so much.
Artillery. Ukraine is losing something like 10:1. It is not just the shells (of which Russia manufactures + gets from NK) way, way, way more than Ukraine, but also artillery pieces, of which Russia has + manufactures a lot more than what Ukraine gets from NATO. 1:2 is nowhere near reality.
Just watch bloody videos from the battlegrounds. You see a meager single shelling event by the Ukrainians here and there, for a dozen or more events on the Russian side.

This blog is very interesting but i desagree : the ukrainian losses in the defensive are certainly much higher than the russian losses attacking the russian have a total air superiority with fab 500 or 1500 destroying the static positions a superiority in middle range artillery and total superiority in long range (Iskander or Tornado S) and the defenders are retreating of cauldrons towards anothers cauldron . Salut. Carrément, ”les ukrainiens ont moins de pertes que les russes...”, c’est drôle ça, tout les journalistes sérieux, ceux qui vont des deux côtés et pas seulement en Ukraine, se rejoignent pour dire que ”quand tu as dix fois plus d’artillerie, normalement, tu fais dix fois plus de victimes...”, non? OK, les chiffres sont truqués des deux côtés mais un site anglais, je ne me rappelle plus lequel, explique qu’en regardant les nécrologies, les déclarations, etc, etc... il arrive à 54 000 morts du côté russe... c’est un tout petit peu moins que chez les ukrainiens qui sont à... plus de 1 million de morts et 4 millions d’amputés (que ce soit par chirurgie ou par bombes, obus... chiffre donné par la croix rouge qui demande du materiel pour les réparer). C’est drôle non? Autant de victimes ukrainiennes pas comptées pour dire que ”les russes en perdent beaucoup plus parce que l’Ukraine est en défense”, depuis le début l’Ukraine est en défense, pas depuis hier, et si au début le nombre de l’artillerie était kif-kif, ce n’est plus le cas depuis longtemps... très longtemps... très très longtemps et c’est sans compter sur la supériorité aérienne russe et leur fab-500, 1500 et 3000, qui ne font que des bisoux aux ukrainiens bien entendu.
Il n’y a pas ou peu de trou dans la défense russe sinon les ukronazis auraient pété la Russie depuis un bon moment, à la limite ils font une contre attaque, les russes se retirent, pour éviter de se faire encercler et éliminer peut-être, et reviennent à la charge et virent les ukros en deux coups de gros calibre dans leur base.

It's a bit speculation that you do. For me it's more logical that Russia had not more losses than Ukraine/Nato, because Russia did not mobilize for a long time but Ukraine is out of men, not Riussia. The tactic with new offenses by Ukraine is to wait for them and then not advance but do the attrition tactic again. Russia will move on later, when the enemy is out of men and supplies again.
