Improve Leg Side Batting Shots (Cricket Batting Tip)

- Improve your leg side cricket shots and common leg side batting issues. Good leg side cricket technique is super important to score runs in cricket.
In this video I show you a simple drill to improve your leg side batting shots.
Firstly, place cones (or any similar object) in front of the batsmen’s leg and middle stump (as shown in the video).
Then, a parent or coach is to give the batsmen underarm throwdowns (or overarm for a more experienced batsmen). These throwdowns are to be in leg stump line and length is to be good and full length. This will ensure the batsmen is coming on to their front foot. Start with slow throwdowns and then speed it up as the batsmen gets accustomed to the pace.
The cones will direct a batsmen’s feet into a straighter position automatically. This helps the batsmen to get behind and on top of the ball, which is an important technique when batting.
As a result they learn to face quick bowling on the pads without backing away. Moreover they learn how to play better on drives, leg glances and flicks.
Enjoy!!

Hi there, I am happy to help, please upload bowling / batting video to TH-cam as a private video and share the link with me, I will then reply with my feedback. Thanks.
Sir off spin bowling run up steps please
I struggle the most in deliveries targeted between the waist and knee. 1 out of 5 times I get a top edge.
Is the top edge happening while you are playing leg side shots?
Yes, when the face of the bat is towards the leg side. I noticed that most of the times I manage to flick the ball towards the fine leg region. But for a more controlled flick shot (in the sense of direction), the issue occurs
This is a good drill. However dont you think without clearing the front foot out of the way the batsman will have difficulty playing the on drive with the straight bat?
Hi Krishnendu, in this drill I am focusing only on the leg glance, not looking at the on drive here. This drill is for players who are struggling playing the flick shot / leg glance.
Although you are somewhat correct with what you are doing with him with his front foot, his back foot turns on every ball thus turning his hips and shoulders which still makes his bat come down across the line of the ball
Hi Robert, that's an excellent point, and I am learning too as I go 👍
Great
What if the bowler is bowling right arm around the wicket or left arm over ??
Amazing video
Thank you
Tq sir very useful to me

my problem is the opposite wht happens is my front leg comes to the off stump before the bowlers balls the ball and if its very difficult to play the flick far to my body
Hi, this is a common issue. You can fix this issue by putting cones (or an object) on your off stump line next to your feet and get a friend or coach to throw the ball on your pads. This will force you to move your front foot forward and not towards the off side.
This will be a good place to start and you will get a feel of moving your feet forward rather than off side. Hope this suggestion helps. Let me know how you go.
@@ResultsCricketAcademy thanks for the thought will definetly try it and tell you the results
sir i am left handed batsman playing tennis cricket after 20 years... I already got out twice by off the cutter .. my leg side stump.. pls advice how to avoid this
Hi Gagandeep, did you get bowled on your leg stump by an off cutter?
If so, you are most likely stepping across (i.e. moving your front foot across to off side) to flick the ball.
Does this sound like what you are doing?
@@ResultsCricketAcademy yes actually they tends to ball at my leg side full deliveries with off cutter... And i usually got out
Bro give up playing and get a job.
Foot movement is a reflex action , it can be mastered only with continous practise and game . It has come as a reflex as and when ball is released from bowler
Agreed 100%
Sir how to flick the ball
Hi, shall make a video on that soon!
Keeping the leg straight front is causing my bat to clash and block to my pads.My timing is also going messy because the pad is making it difficult to see the ball that close. However when my shuffle my back foot to my middle or off stump I'm not only able to cover my stumps but also time the ball. Will this technique work? Can you suggest some drills?
Hi Tirthanka, yes that technique can work. However I would suggest practice drills where you are taking your head forward, over your foot and playing the ball under your eyes on the legside. If you do this your bat should not hit the front pad. Can you try this and let me know if it works for you.
Hi sir there is an issue for me whenever the bowler bowl me on the off stump my front foot do not go through mid off but it goes straight how can I proved this... Sir please guide me
Hi, you need to do more drop feed practice. I will make a video on this soon.
Why you are not making more videos?? :(

Nice
It happens when the ball is fast, slow balls i can play let me know how to fix
Slowly progress from facing slow balls to fast balls in the nets, and practice with intent, it will work 👍
Where your academy?
Hi Muhammad, we are in Sydney, Australia
Sir I'm juge the ball
Should I do short step because I keep playing bigger steps and the ball hits the top of my foot. Should I do smaller steps?
Hi Dhruv, yes definitely, short step will help for leg side flicks / glance shots. Let me know how you go after trying it!
@@ResultsCricketAcademy I wear shoes that are a bit big for me (like I need to wear like a gelly insole) and many time it hits my foot. Should I wear a smaller shoe maybe?
@@DJCricketMSD No, shoes are not the issue. Issue is the step size, and the head not going straight. If you do the aforementioned 2 things you will improve your leg side shots
@@ResultsCricketAcademy thank you
@@ResultsCricketAcademy ok will do
I am very frustrated by missing leg side balls onto my leg stump I just can’t judge it . I am very good offside and straight down the wicket I hook and pull well but I just can’t play a ball on leg stump good length . Please help I am tearing down
