    I like Vincent. In a town where everybody has issues, he's just a boy who wants to play with the only other kid his age. Not everybody needs to have an exciting life story, and having people like him makes the game feel more alive. Also I end up befriending him and Jas since Penny is my favorite marriage candidate, and it's convenient to also give them gifts

    • @Abyrae
      @Abyrae 2 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      Okay but when you think about it, you realise how lonely Vincent must have felt before Shane and Jas moved in with Marnie. All the other "kids" in town (all of them late teens/young adults by the time your farmer moves in) were much older than him. Other than his brother and their father before the war, he did not have any playmates.

      @@wolfieisacat13 I've never seen their ages confirmed anywhere in game, nor does anyone say how long it has been since Shane and Jas moved it. I put both Jas and Vincent in the 6 to 8 years old range. Even there, even a kid as young as 2 or 3 needs to play and socialise with other kids around their age. It is part of their development. When you look at it, most of the other kids in town (who are now grown adults like Sebastian, Penny, etc) grew up around each other. Vincent did not have that chance at first.

    Maybe Vincent gives you clay, geodes, and the doll because he wants to be helpful to you? He probably gives you the doll because he sees you helping Gunther with the museum so he gives you something he found in the hope it's something missing. Clay maybe because he thinks you could make something useful from it. Geodes because, again, he's probably seen you helping Gunther with gems and knows you can get them from geodes. I think the gifts are probably just him trying to be helpful.

      Aww, agreed! Not to mention, geodes seem like something kids like Vincent & Jas would find super cool. I mean, I know I thought rocks were awesome as a kid, but in the game, they’re basically lootboxes, right? I like to imagine the kids following you to Clint’s, excitedly peering over to see what’s inside of your cool new toys (while Penny holds them back from the forge).

    • @wolfkitty42
      @wolfkitty42 2 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      When I was a kid I got a geode I think at a museum gift shop or something. I remember taking turns hitting it to break it open! I was too little to use the sledgehammer lol. Anyways yup, kids LOVE geodes! And if they don’t, the adventure of breaking it are still great.

    You make a good point about Vincent being the more emotionally intelligent of the two kids. Maybe that's why he gives you clay - even though he doesn't like it himself, he recognizes that it's something you collect a lot of, therefore you must either like it or have a lot of need for it. That kind of empathy seems pretty advanced for someone his age.

    Fun detail about Vincent: when you're doing Birdie's quest, one of the last items is a wriggly worm. It's supposed to go to Willy, but if you give it to Vincent, he says it's cool but his mom would never let him keep it. I love little stuff like that in this game! :)

    Vincent's existience seems to just be for the others around him more than him being an actual villager himself. Vincent is there so that Sam can have a little brother and a heartfelt cutscene, Vincent is there to talk about his father Kent and inform us about the war, Vincent is there so that Jas can have another kid to play with and to show that she's the 'smarter' kid, Vincent is there so that Jodi can really be that stay-at-home parent with no time leftover, Vincent is there for Penny to really be a teacher, teaching more than just Jas, etc. Vincent is just your generic child character, nothing special about him specifically, but what he is there to do is exemplify other villager's characters and stories.

    Personally, I think Vincent performing poorly in terms of grades is deliberate so Miss Penny will spend more one-on-one time tutoring him and he excels in sports because he wants to show off for her.
    Although this really puts his question of "are you going to marry Miss Penny" during Penny's 8 Heart event in a whole new light (jealous of you instead of innocent curiosity). He only asks this question if you aren't already married (if you are, he instead takes the opportunity to tease Jas).
    Kids can develop crushes, but they obviously don't understand the implications of them and eventually grow out of them.

    • @hopesmusicvids

      I really like that cutscene, because the things you say changes Vincent's dialogue. For example, there's one where he says Sam is very strong, because he saw Sam lift Penny out of a tree not long ago.

    something i found interesting is that sam has to make reminders for himself in order to do important tasks (“Oh! I just remembered I'm supposed to call my Grandma. Okay, I'm going to put this rubber band on my wrist so I don't forget. I have to make little reminders for myself or else I'll totally forget to do things.”) a lot of times, people with ADHD or autism would have to make reminders for themselves in order to not forget. it has me thinking, sam probably has ADHD or the like, so it's not too unlikely that vince may have a learning disorder as well.

    • @kaitlynstaley1507

      It's possible but he could also just be forgetful. Teenagers are like that (me having recently been one.) I'd really like to see more evidence for this though! Maybe we can tie the ADHD theory with his interests in music and skateboarding? I'd have to look into that more. And maybe he hyper fixates when he says "just a minute, I need to finish this level" and if there hours longer

    My dad was a marine and when I was a kid and my dad was on deployment it was very hard on my mom and I. When I was about Vincent's age though I thought of my dad as superman who would come back because ofcourse dad's gonna come back. As I got a little older the reality of my dad being just a person who could very well not come back was really hard to understand. The last deployment he went on was a tough one and honestly that first heart scene with Sam and Vincent made me tear up because it hit home in a way I didn't expect.

    He might be displaying signs of dyslexia, given his struggles in reading and spelling. This also ties into this math skills, as dyslexia can cause confusion with place values e.g. units, tens, hundreds, and confusion between symbols such as + and x signs. This might be why he is only getting C's in math, as his dyslexia might be tripping him up.
    Also, kids with dyslexia can sometimes have difficulty finding the word they’re looking for, there is also an elevated chance of them misspeaking.This could also explain why he is still having trouble with pronouncing certain words/letters, despite being at an age where this problem should be nearly gone.

"oh...that farmer gave my kid/little brother grapes..how thoughtful of them :)" if its a healthy present you would get a heart reaction, if its candy just a "like" reaction! ok, if jodie sees you give him a snail it should be a dislike from her! hahahaaa anyways great video

And with a busy mother and an absent father, you're going to need an overactive imagination to entertain yourself. Maybe thats me talking from having been in similar shoes so i'm shooting over theory and headcanon into projection, but idk, it makes sense to me.

    Vincent seems a very normal kid, maybe young for his age (whatever that is), and not super bright, but I think most of his statements are cute. I find him quite lovable. Also, did you forget the heart scene with Penny and the kids? He has a big role in cutting that one short. Guess that will come up later. As far as boring goes, all the villagers get boring after you've heard their dialogue 300 times. I think he's a lot less boring than Jodi, who does almost nothing but complain.

      The real (boring) explanation behind that is that it was an oversight by Ape, but fans loved it, so he left it in.
      The more fun explanation is that the Wizard is Abigail's father and she inherited some magical traits from him (beyond the purple hair that Caroline is absolutely lying about, have you seen what drinking her "tea" does?). Could be that she has latent magical energies that she replenishes by consuming gems, as Emily has proven to be susceptible to their energy (unlike Haley, that cutscene is hilarious).

    I always got the vibe that Vincent has ADD/ADHD based on his behavior and Penny’s comment about it his active imagination.

  • @kryptic.korvid
    @kryptic.korvid ปีที่แล้ว

    I think Vincent has several undiagnosed disabilities, including ADHD and a speech impediment (spwing onion dialogue). He doesn't seem to struggle with speech in any of his other dialogues, but it's pretty normal for a kid that went through speech therapy to still struggle with one specific word or sound. The "active imagination", the low grades in everything except physical activity, his curious nature, CA is basically shoving ADHD in our face with this guy. The way the adults in his life, especially penny, talk about him, make it basically irrefutable that he has ADHD. He might also have comorbid autism, as it seems he has a special interest with nature, specifically bugs and small animals, but most kids do. And the boy DEFINITELY needs therapy, I know personally how traumatic it is to worry about your dad dying at the ripe age of 7.

    I wanted to know more about those mystery statues. Vincent is the Red Oni to Jas's Blue Oni: she's colder and intelligent and he's warmer and emotive. You have a lot of examples of this trope in Superman and Batman, Naruto and Sasuke, Ryu and Ken... I don't find the boy boring but can't say I'm invested in his entire family for more than achievements.

    His dad is Army (if his green shirt parallels the US, anyway). And dialogue refers to the army, which is a separate branch from
    both marines and navy. Don’t insult an army man by calling him a marine lol.

  • @Rikrobat
    @Rikrobat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Vincent definitely doesn’t offer too much in the way of delicious theories or curiosities. I do like the cutscene where Vincent asks about the soldiers being “shot to pieces” because it raised the interesting question of how to approach serious conversations with kids-do we be honest or do we keep certain truths from them so they can enjoy childhood with fewer worries? While the second option is ideal because kids shouldn’t have to worry about so many things that it forces them to be stressed and upset growing up, not being honest makes it so they might learn the truth in a way that hurts them more-having a loved one explain things can be easier to digest and come to terms with.
    All that said, while I like the conversation that this cutscene encourages, it doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with Vincent other than him having the stressful situation of wanting his dad back and fearing he’s being killed somewhere in the world. He’s a great springboard for the conversation, but it could have been introduced in other ways. So, for me, Vincent can offer interesting topics to discuss, but he is mostly just a standard kid to me. I appreciate that he’s the easier child to gift things to; that’s about it. :)

      Personally, I find it depends on the circumstance. If it's going to be an unavoidable reality for them, tell them the truth. However, if the outcome isn't set in stone, it's better to be optimistic with kids so they don't develop anxiety or depression for no reason.
