    My reaction/ analysis of the latest song by The Beatles - Now And Then. This is likely the last song that includes all four Beatles on it. The song was written and demoed by John Lennon in the 70's, then worked on by Paul McCartney and George Harrison in the 90's and finalised with a help of AI technology in 2022 so it could be released a year later. For those interested in more details about this I'd recommend to check out the short film made by ‪@TheBeatles‬ :
    • The Beatles - Now And ...
    In addition to this I'd recommend this great video by ‪@RickBeato‬ that goes more in depth into the AI use and how it made this record possible:

    I'm blown away by this song. As you commented, it maintains the Beatles style/brand while updating with fresh chord progressions, strings and harmonies. It's bittersweet lyrically. Great creative idea by John and an obvious labor of love by Paul to add to it and bring it home so beautifully. Just the way they used to write so many songs. Miss this music. What a gift to have a "last one". Fitting tribute to John and all of them.

      Not possible without Peter Jacksons AI breakthrough though.

      True, it's kind of fitting how it all came together with the AI breakthrough, it's amazing to see Paul and George working on it in the 90s but not being able to finish it because of the piano bleed. It's a shame George couldn't hear this.

    This song melts me every time I hear it. It may have been written by Lennon in 77 but its release now feels providential as a final goodbye from such an iconic band.

    I think it was amazing that Paul and Ringo managed to put a dynamic energy behind this slow melody. The bass is really great . Ringo nails it !

    As is the case with the majority of my generation, I suspect, I'm a huge Beatles fan beginning with seeing them perform on the Ed Sullivan Show when I was all of 11 years old. Never saw them perform live but did get to see McCartney in Philadelphia during their Wings Over America tour. This song and especially the video knocks me out emotionally everytime I watch it. The song is beautiful and the video is classy and sweet. Beatles forever!

    • @FaanaMusic
      @FaanaMusic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yeah, it gets me as well especially the retrospective ending. I have never seen any of them live unfortunately, that must have been great to see at least Paul. How did you enjoy it? I did meet a part of his band once here in London one night on a jam session. I didn't know it was them until after we jammed a few song together. I'm glad I didn't as otherwise I would probably be much more nervous, haha.

      @@FaanaMusic The concert was killer, as good as any live Wings videos out there. The Spectrum stadium was close to Philly Int'l and when they played the recording of the incoming jet for Back in the USSR we all looked up thinking it was an actual low flying jet over the stadium. The closest I've ever com to Beatle royalty was when I happen to meet Peter Asher while waiting in line at the Gaslight Cafe in NYC for a James Taylor show.

    A great song to pay tribute to a band that has never left the harts of not only the fans but the friendships of members in the band. Not just a song written about love but also written with love 👍

    It's always so enjoyable to watch a reaction with somebody that knows music and recording. One other thing on a musician level that I think I really like about that ending, is that the meter essentially becomes 12/4. They take the first two slow bars of the verses, John Lennon's lead vocal part, and then they add that dominant 7 on the fifth for another four beats to escalate tension, and so it makes this slow waltz feeling spread out over a long interval, and it sets it up perfectly to lose the rhythm and then just slide back down and under, and then slide back up into the root A minor. It's just so cool.

    I learned to play the guitar by doing what you are doing, Sir. I'd sit and listen to a song over and over and play my guitar " by ear" with the record until I got it right. Watching this brings back SO many memories.

    Actually that is not a G chord, it is an Emin chord with the bass on the G, because it accommodates the descending bass line down from Amin.
    This is fun, glad you're reacting to this. I just paused right now when I heard that and now I'm continuing on.

    • @FaanaMusic
      @FaanaMusic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed! I took it as G6, that's why I said G, I wrote it like that in the chord chart too, hope that clarifies it. ;-)

      That s what I wanted to point out before I saw your posting. a G6 chord would have d+e which is not the case here ...

    I heard this first on the radio and I did not like it but the video made me take a 180* and I appreciate it much more now and George being gone made it hit me a bit harder .. It is like the 1990s when they did this with Free as a Bird and Real Love and that was great as well ..... I like your Fender Telecaster ,it has a nice design ..

    I always thought the Beatles final single released in 1970 "The long and winding road" was a great swan song for them. Perhaps songs like "Free as a bird", "Real love" in 1995 and "Now and then" 2023 should have been credited to John Lennon featuring McCartney, Harrison, and Starr rather than the Beatles.

    • @FaanaMusic
      @FaanaMusic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a good point, but still there's something to the nostalgia and remembering The Beatles as a whole.

    It's great that they had some of George's guitar parts from the sessions that Jeff Lynne produced in the 90's, but it was definitely missing George on slide guitar. I know Paul played slide on this, and though it gave it a little more Beatle sound, it wasn't something George would sound like. While I like the song, I think it could have used Jeff Lynne's touch on this one to really put it over the top. JMHO...😁

    • @FaanaMusic
      @FaanaMusic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Totally agreed, as Paul said it was an attempt to make a tribute to George by the solo, but his unique touch and ideas are definitely missed!

    As a music teacher you definitely should realize/hear/know that the second chord is NOT Gmajor but Eminor on G!!!

    • @FaanaMusic
      @FaanaMusic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I mentioned it here already I understand it as G6 as I have put it in the chord chart as well. ;)

    • @t.m.7712
      @t.m.7712 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Sorry - from music teacher to music teacher - but G6 is G major or minor with the third in the bass - so B or Bflat respectively!
      But here in second chord of the piece we clearly hear an E !! That exactly is the special thing in this progression hence so important!

    • @FaanaMusic
      @FaanaMusic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@t.m.7712 I beg to differ, G6 in my view is G, B, D, E. Hence the same as Em/G. A lot of swing uses this chord as a one chord, I played in a many swing bands and it's always been written like this. How do you think about G6 being an inversion? I guess it might be more classical approach because of the 6th interval in there? But in regards to chord symbols G6 means what I mentioned above at least from my experience.
