2022 Infiniti QX60 SUV Is Exactly What The Brand Needs

  • No doubt, the 2022 Infiniti QX60 is a big improvement over the outgoing model. A 9-speed transmission replaces the continuously variable unit. The user interface is a big step forward. The design, inside and out is fresh and up to date. Tom Voelk checks out a fully optioned Autograph model and finds that Infiniti’s new approach is successful. Mostly. Looking at you big shiny things in back. And yes, it will haul the whole family.

    Love the quilting and real wood, but it's a shame they missed on those little details like lined door pockets which make such a big difference to an interior. The integral sunshades are great, as proven by the number of people amazed by the ones in my Audi Q7. I wasn't expecting them to be one of the stand-out features, and honestly I still scratch my head when they're mentioned. /shrug/
    Oh, and can we start a petition to outlaw fake exhausts, or whatever the heck Infiniti is calling those things?!?

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup. Small things make big impressions. I feel the same way about Cadillac. I have an ELR that has all of those details (lined pockets, Alcantara trim, 3D woven carbon fiber trim, eco) but GM doesn't typically extend those niceties to other Cadillacs. I keep saying it doesn't let Cadillac be Cadillac.

      @@DrivenCarReviews thanks for the correction regarding the trim & I agree I could live without that as well. Nissan should have refreshed many of their models and gotten rid of their troublesome CVT Transmission years ago. Since sitting on their laurels competition (Lexus, Acura, Genesis) have made great strides and have eroded Nissan/Infiniti market share. Hope they can recover because they are so behind from the rest of the pack. Finally, the QX60 is not much different from the Nissan Pathfinder so you’re better off saving money buying the Pathfinder over the QX60.

    Since Honda’s hybrid system is a series hybrid (or at least has a mode for series hybrid operation), I doubt the QX60 hybrid will feel like a CVT. The Honda system feels like a slower, but responsive, EV with an engine that doesn’t quite rev in relation to when the car is propelled forward. So there isn’t a rubber band effect like you’d get with a CVT. Excellent review as always!

    Good looking SUV. I wish more looked more interesting. The color, to me, is fantastic. I also like the interior being done in something other than basic black! The price...well you have to make some money to afford these. It would be even better if it was less in cost considering the shared components. One other thing to keep in mind, I think the unlined door pockets are easier to keep clean (especially drinks/liquids).

    Wonderful review, Tom. Just what I was looking for! Loved the foggy atmosphere with the mossy trees. I love Infiniti's designs but I have come to value a quiet ride and smoother suspension more over the years which Infiniti doesn't really offer. I currently have a BMW X5 which is fairly quiet but still uses a sportier suspension. Its difficult to find a list (an honest list) of which crossovers are the smoothest/quietest. Could Tom or anyone in the know maybe post a list? Or maybe make a video just based on that?

      That's like nailing Jell-O to an Aero Bed. Many manufactures that say "required" will often admit that it's legalize for "in order to get the stated HP, premium is "required". It would be like playing whack-a-mole. But yeah, you have point.

    I'd swap the Autograph's (or Sensor's) 20s for the Pure or Luxe trim's 18s for a better ride--and possibly better tire and wheel life, depending the quality of roads you typically encounter. With a decent quality tire, the difference in responsiveness will be negligible.

    Some of the reasons I love living in the Pacific Northwest... Frequent sightings of bald eagles perched in the trees in my yard. And those trees are taller than any found within a thousand miles of where I grew up in Oklahoma. Yes, the winters teach you to distinguish among "50 Shades of Gray," but the summer views of Mt. Rainier make up for it. And the much overstated rain is actually less than then annual total in Orlando, Miami, or Boston.
    The QX60, much like the new Rogue and the Pathfinder is a major upgrade over its predecessor. But here's a hint for automotive designers. Don't include a feature that every single reviewer will find ridiculous. No matter how insignificant it is. Faux exhausts are bad enough. Large chrome blobs stuck on the rear bumper invite ridicule. They shouldn't be a deal breaker but I suspect that the one fact many consumers will remember about the QX60 are those horribly ugly chrome blobs.
