Painkiller is 1000% not a beginning riff, I think all guitar players can speak on that cause I don’t think anyone sits down and says yep that song is going to be one of the first songs I learn right as they pick up a guitar
Intro riff is pretty simple and it was the one i used to monitor progress. I recorded it once in a while and checked it after some time, was a really cool thing )
When I started playing guitar I wanted to jump right into playing and I didn’t learn “harder” stuff like that till 2-3 months in but I practiced everyday. It can be a lot to comprehend at the early stage so I agree.
Some of these riffs are definitely not for beginners. I would have struggled with some of these when I was starting out. That's not to say that they are good riffs to aspire to for a beginner cos the definitely are. Good choice.
The first riff I ever learned was master of puppets lol. It took me forever and had to do it so so slowly. Its all I wanted to be able to play! Also was the song that made me pick up a guitar!
First one i ever learned was seven nation army but i couldn’t resist and i just made it metal version because it was too easy. First one that gave me challenge was maybe enter sandman
M first song was „Enter Sandman“ :-). Learned it in 2 days and after that I knew how cool powerchords are 😅 by the way I didn’t knew what powerchords were but i used them all the time 😂
@@DjadiBilal97 Now try powerchords, same idea 1-5 with open chords. G D etc :) They are so cool, too :) Bit tricky as it requires muting strings but sounds so cool :)
Downfall definitely not for beginners :D Also, Slayer and Painkiller (Judas Priest) may be relatively simple, but would argue it still takes time for some beginners to nail them (i.e. to do alternate picking accurately and at original tempo)
at first when i saw you put downfall on here i thought you meant the exodus song and I felt really bad xD but i feel like i could pick up the CoB Downfall a little easier xD
A few of these riffs are a bit more challenging, but if you already learned the easier ones you'll be able to practice and understand the more difficult ones too. Keep it up!
The first song I learned to play through entirely was shepherd of fire by avenged sevenfold, unless you don’t count not doing the right solo, me and my teacher improvised a different solo that still fit the tone of the song because even now I’d still consider myself a beginner, so obviously I wasn’t gonna pull off a Synyster Gates solo for my recital, but since shepherd of fire, I learned how to play the middle by Jimmy eats world and my hero by the foo fighters in my school’s rock band program
i started with bass and moved on to guitar as soon as i found out that the bass player for van halen/van hagar didn't get chicks because of his stellar bass skills... (it was his stellar back up vocals), the very first song i learned on bass wasn't an easy one.. it was an introduction into my walking bass line phase that ultimately lead me to my ska jag. the song was "pea" off of one hot minute by R.H.C.P. so i wanted the chicks... all i did was add two chords and learned some basic structure (stereotypical power chord, down tune, one note solos...ect you get the picture.) its easier to start with 2 less strings until you get the hang of the basics.
I'd say they're great songs for beginners to work on so as to develop a solid technique. I've always played by ear when it comes to riffs, but never took the time to see the songs through. Bass on the other hand was a different story, I could play the whole ''RATM, Evil Empire'' album all the way through when I was a kid. @@wjrhdujvshss7938 Its actually very easy, it just looks scary what you do is: you play the 4th fret with point finger then press and release the 5th freth with your middle finger. You dont hit the strings everytime you press, you only hit the string once

People on TH-cam replying to people on TH-cam ~ I was shredding when I first picked up a guitar at 6 years old and Steve Vai asked me for lessons! Guys, we get it. Shut up and play.
Awesome, I've been self teaching via youtube for a year or so and was able to most of these. The crazy train intro gets me cause I have short ass fingers and can't nail the pinky spots other than that though, I'd say these probably aren't in any particular order cause some required techniques that are a little more advanced to sound right but over all I had a lot of fun with this list and thanks for the tabs.
Nice song selection! Some of them may require a good bit of work for beginners, but is through work and practice that we get better and build some good foundations
Downfall? A bit surprised at that one, I wouldn’t have said it’s for a beginner. Helps getting the alternate picking motions down? Sure, but not a beginner riff. Oh and a slight correction, halfway through the riff, it changes to 8 on the low E and A instead of 0 7 on the A (I know this since I’ve got a good ear and I’ve seen the live footage)
I think it's a good exercise when you just play the basic pattern over and over, even for beginners (so I skipped the 8 in the low E to not make it more complicated). It's not an easy riff at all, but it's somewhat easy to understand and could help beginners to - well - not be beginners anymore.
@@KevinBalke I understand in terms of an exercise, but it’s just changing it means you’re not playing the actual riff and if anything you say it’ll make beginners… well not beginners anymore, I actually think the real version would defo be a good exercise (that is a tricky one to get down)
@@masonhodgkin7889 Was that of constantly playing it or just a bit over a couple of days? If I keep going at it, I think I could get it down fully. Been playing for same amount of time funnily enough
Sorry man, but i think basic sweeping patterns are easier than Downfall, to try to play it correctly. Especially with alternative with proper string muting and getting tempo to work with. Some of those riffs are good but its not for beginners 100%.
Mate it's so funny the way you put everything in perspective.... I could be wrong here as it's been a good number of years since I played guitar, but I am pretty sure they are simplified versions of the actual songs. For example, 2 minutes to midnight is missing the root note on the chords on the A string. If you're a beginner, you'll get there in time, but it's worth noting that things considered 'beginner' can range up to anything you'd expect to run in to up to around grade 3 or 4 difficulty stuff. It can get pretty damn complex in some places so it's never to be mistaken with things you should expect to just pick up and nail first try. But the key is keep practicing and you'll get there dude. Just don't forget to take regular breaks so your brain can actually process the things you're learning!
so this is the approach i took with learning in the beginning. just play the single root note... that is the note that is mostly numbered... for example the song "am i evil", you would be playing the root note... that is the notes that are marked "0", "3", "5" and so on for the rest of the rift.. don't worry about the other number until you get more comfortable with finger placement and then you can introduce other note making it a power chord. OR you can conveniently switch to bass... (way more fun but less chicks in my opinion)
